Kenny Rogers sends cameraman to the hospital

I think Kenny Rogers is unhappy about missing his last start. What do you guys think?

Texas Rangers pitcher Kenny Rogers shoved two cameramen Wednesday, sending one to the hospital in a videotaped tirade that included throwing a camera to the ground and threatening to break others.

Rogers, who missed his last start for the struggling Rangers with a broken pinky he suffered during an outburst earlier this month, erupted at the cameramen as they filmed him walking to the field for pregame stretching before Wednesday night's game against the Los Angeles Angels.

The 40-year-old left-hander first shoved Fox Sports Net Southwest photographer David Mammeli, telling him: "I told you to get those cameras out of my face."

Rogers then approached a second cameraman. He wrestled the camera from Larry Rodriguez of Dallas-Fort Worth television station KDFW, threw it to the ground and kicked it.

The 6-foot-1, 210-pound pitcher saw two other cameramen who were recording from the Rangers' dugout and walked toward them. He did not make contact with the men, who were backing away.

"I'll break every ... one of them," Rogers said before he was escorted to the clubhouse by catcher Rod Barajas.

The Rangers sent Rogers home about an hour later.

KDFW news director Maria Barrs said paramedics took Rodriguez to an Arlington hospital late Wednesday to be checked out.

"He does have quite a bit of pain, in his shoulder and his arm and his leg," Barrs said.

Footage shot by Dallas-Fort Worth station KTVT shows Rogers pushing Rodriguez's camera, which goes over the photographer's head and falls to the ground. As Rodriguez puts the camera back on his shoulder, Rogers approaches again, pushing the lens away and having words with the photographer.

As players begin to intervene, Rogers pulls the camera to the ground and kicks it before walking away.

Fox Sports Net Souhwest spokesman Ramon Alvarez said Mammeli wasn't injured.

Rangers manager Buck Showalter, who did not witness the events, said the said the team will investigate.

"It's not something we'll take lightly," Showalter said. "When I have all the facts, I'll deal with it."

Showalter added: "One person was frustrated -- frustrated at not being able to win."

Texas lost eight of nine entering Wednesday night.

"I think it demonstrated an appalling lack of control," Barrs said. "The team doing poorly is no excuse for assaulting a guy who's just doing his job," Barrs said.

Arlington police spokeswoman Christy Gilfour said the department had been notified of the incident and was investigating. No charges have been filed, she said.

"What Kenny did was wrong and we won't condone it," Rangers owner Tom Hicks said. "It will be handled internally."

Rogers missed his turn Tuesday night against the Angels because of a small broken bone in his right pinkie. Rogers was hurt after he came out of a game against Washington on June 17. Video clips showed him knocking multiple coolers to the ground, then looking at his right hand.

Rogers has refused to talk to reporters all season, and on Tuesday night ordered television cameras turned off around him. He has boycotted most media since a report before spring training that he threatened to retire if he wasn't given a contract extension.

Hicks said he's aware that Rogers has a temper.

"Kenny has had a short fuse dealing with the media," said Hicks. "I've heard stories about what may or may not have happened. He has issues. It's directed at the media and I don't know why."

Cameraman's injuries=total bulls***. f*** the cameraman for filing charges. The whimp doesn't deserve s***.

Okay then, I'll be right over to your house to shove you. I don't expect you to file charges against me even though I committed assault and battery.

If Rogers wants out of Texas...Kenny, you know what to do.

f*** that, I don't want some 50 year old prick who usually sucks in the second half on my team.

He's going to be suspended up to the All-Star game.

What's the guy's gain? Please, filing isn't worth it...at all. He just wants to get some cheap cash.

Filing charges is completely fine with me.... The visit to the hospital seems like much and is a cry for help.

You got sent to the hospital by a guy with a broken hand, and you were carrying a weapon(camera/whatever)... You're a pussy.

:notworthy

Filing charges is always a pain in the ass. I did it once, not for assault but for vandalism. Today I could have filed a police report for assholes f***ing with my s*** but I decided to make them my b**** and have them clean it up and tell their parents about it instead. Much more satisfying than filing a police report.

Oh, and about that Kenny Rogers incident, that cameraman is a selfish douche who wants money.

Kenny Rogers has a broken pinky, ON HIS NON-PITCHING HAND, and he can't pitch. This has nothing to do with his injury. He is having a hissy-fit about his contract extension talks. The reason Rogers wants his contract extended now is because he always falls apart in the second half of the season. Look at his career numbers. He isn't this good. He has a 4.20 career ERA. Possible Cy Young canidate? LOL, not a chance in hell.

Someone's still annoyed about not getting a new contract.

He can punch a camera man with that broken pinky finger in his NON-PITCHING HAND but he can't pitch when his team is trying to stay in contention? :headshake What a f***ing bum.

what a dickhead! As a future member of the media all my sympathies go to the media. Regardless of how Kenny Rogers may feel about how the media has portrayed him he has no right to assault a member of the media, and especially not a camera man who had nothing to do with anything and was just doing he was told to do.

I think they have the right to and should press charges on Rogers. Cameramen rely heavily on their physical ability in order to do their job, a camera may not look it but the thing is heavy as hell. An injury would prevent him from doing his job, just like it would for an athlete or physical laborer.

What also upsets me is that Rogers tried to destroy the camera he was holding. He may not realize this but cameras, especially those used in major productions like baseball games cost around $500,000 a piece. He might as well be taking a crow bar to a ferarri because thats about how expensive a professional camera is.

f*** Kenny Rogers, what a classless asshole, i hope his broken finger falls off and he never pitches again

Kenny Rogers is a dick. The media guys (or cameramen) are just doing their job. They get attacked by a f***ing lunatic who needs anger management. How the cameraman ended up in the hospital, I dunno. Still, I’m glad to see that Rogers is getting the attention he is getting right now. His reputation is going down the drain. That is if he ever had one.

His reputation was pretty well shot when his wife, Tawny Kitean, kicked his ass.

That wasn't Kenny Rogers, that was Chuck Finley.
