  2. I blame umpires. Sure catchers are bad at framing but its not all on them. Umpires just suck. Their job is to call a strike when its a strike after all it crosses the plate before the catcher catches it. If umps have to rely on a catchers mitt to tell if its a strike then go to robots.

  5. Also kudos to Chuck, as he's been the MVP of the rebuild so far. He's had 3 straight days of podcasts. His podcast last week with Hostetler was simply awesome. No doubt in my mind Chuck has been pushing to get Sox minor league games on the channel formerly known as Comcast Sports.

  6. It would be very, very great! I would compile a great roster and make the Cubs pay for it!

  7. As many of you know, I have spoken many times about my experiences being Autistic. I'm here to talk about the other two issues I deal with, that I am not ashamed of, and I'm putting it out there. Along with Autism, I also deal with Bipolar disorder and Generalized Anxiety. Wil Wheaton wrote a piece about how GAD/clinical depression are the tag team champions of mental illness,. I'll share that article If those two are the tag team champions, when you add autism to the mix it really is the unholy trinity. I thought 'd share this with everyone, due to the recent suicides of Anthony Bourdain and Kate Spade. If anyone has questions, feel free to add to the discussion and I'd be glad to answer anything. Open Forum. EDIT. Having a hard time finding Wil Wheaton's article again. Will keep trying.

  8. Flavum, I love that old quote from George Will's "Men At Work". It was an umpire's response to a frustrated rookie pitcher, who could not get a called strike, while pitching to Roger Hornsby, if I recall correctly.

  9. Jfc, the amount of armchair quarterbacking in here is unreal. Relax.

  10. What's the point of Yolmer hitting a triple if Renteria fails to make his guys bunt to get him home?

  12. Sorry ass manager gives Sanchez two days off in a row yet continues to trot Moncada out there when he seemingly has no chance. Give him a rest day you f***ing buffoon.

  13. I am all giddy like a schoolgirl. Anderson leads off with a hit. Get some runs for Carlos

  14. Not impressed by either pitcher. Mize has no control today and Singer has been laying in 91-93 mph meatballs that would be crushed by better hitters. Also, is India having trouble throwing to 1b? Yips? Let a routine throw sail on him. Bailed out of an error by a very nice play by the first basemen and the announcers made a comment about India’s throws to first being an adventure of late. Took me about 30 minutes of watching that game to feel even more confident in the Madrigal selection.

  15. I'm excited for Rodon and Lopez on B2B days following Covey's great outing. If Rodon picks up where he left off. Suddenly this rotation is formidable. 5-6 innings of good pitching from Rodon would be a great sight. I'm sure he'll be limited in his pitch count.

  16. https://670thescore.radio.com/media/audio-channel/mully-hanley-jason-mcleod-brad-biggs-rick-hahn-interviews-hour-4 Roughly 25 min mark...35 mins addresses FA possibilities. Seems Fathom overreacted a bit here. Typical Hahnspeak If anything, while the record is worse than most predicted, the key parts of the rebuild are all acquitting themselves well. Rodon’s back. We can’t say that Giolito/Fulmer and now Moncada struggling should keep them from investing wisely beginning this offseason...any more than we should count on Lopez, Fry, Davidson, SANCHEZ, Covey and Palka. To me, Anderson solidifying his spot might be the most important development of all so far. Not to mention 6-8 “impact arrivals” from the minor leagues between now and 2020. We can’t afford to wait back until after 2019 and suddenly hope to compete without laying part of the foundation in this year’s class.

  17. I'd be down with that. Once Shields is hopefully traded, I can live with Rodon-Lopez-Covey-Giolito-Kopech

  18. It would be so so very very cool to see Covey Rodon and Lopez all shut down the Red Sox. Especially with Rodon and Covey not on the staff most of the year. They might have to get some phantom injuries from more players to sustain the drive for a top 3 pick next year or have the pen implode again . They have been way too good lately.

  19. Rodon is going to pitch his ass off from here on out and become this staff's clear cut Ace.

  20. There is also a component of this on the pitchers command. If the catcher never has to move his mitt on a slightly off the edge pitch, he may get the call. If the catcher sets up outside and has to dive/move significantly inside to catch a pitch, even though it may be over the plate it will often be called a ball.

  21. I'm hoping this is some sort of joke. We'd have to go 27-74 to finish that poorly. Only 1 team in the last 50 years has finished with less than 50 wins, that being the '03 Detroit Tigers. That team finished the month of June with just 19 wins. We're already at 20 and there's still 22 days left in the month.

  23. The great Engel is down. He has been doing well the past couple weeks. Is there any chart out there that shows where the pitches are throw for all of his hits?

  24. All part of Hahn's master plan that began years ago. Draft Sale, build his value, select Covey in the rule five, trade Sale for a haul to bolster the rebuild and make Covey the staff ace! Sheer genius!!!

  25. Could it be the other way around. Last year he was in over his head, lost confidence and was timid throwing. This year he has confidence and is letting tge ball just fly with confidence. the sox saw enough in him to draft him as a rule 5 and keep him. I dont think it was a 90 fastball and poor off speed stuff.

  26. The guy has three home runs. It's silly to talk about him blasting 15-20 a season in MLB. That's fine. Not everybody has to mash home runs. But it's dumb to project home runs when he can't hit them with college bats.

  27. Ditto. He is the best Offensive prospect in this draft at this time. I have a pal in Oregon who really knows his baseball, and I asked him what he knew about Madrigal. He said he has seen him about 20 times, and he is Sensational at everything. Senfreakingsational.

  28. You mean the whole KW insisting on Singer was a ruse? No, I find that hard to believe that a FO would leak false information.

  29. No. LeBron may be the most physically blessed played of all time. He is not the best. He’s not been the best on the court in a lot of games he’s played in. And he absolutely has nowhere near the mental or emotional game that Michael had. The way he is currently behaving on the court is absolutely embarrassing and pathetic. He sure does put his shoulder down, clear out with the off hand, and go to the basket hard though.

  30. I would love for the Sox to get Machado or Harper. I just think that’s a reach at this point. It’s like applying to a dream job for which your only marginally qualified or getting a date with the prettiest woman you’ve ever seen-worth a shot, but not likely to go your way. Regardless of what Hahn said about the franchise being aggressive the sox have no history of awarding these types of contracts. The sox are not yet at a competitive point to appeal to either guy. These guys aren’t Buehrle or Konerko there going to be looking to maximize their market value. The sox more realistically are probably more likely to succeed at Michael Brantley, AJ Pollock, one of the closers due to their injury histories. Even so that will probably be an overpay. Which I’m fine with. Free agency entails a lot of risk. Your giving significant contracts to players the other side of 30, and hoping they don’t physically fall off a cliff. The 2020 free agent classs also has some guys that could help the team out at that point as well. Though that class seems pitcher heavy, Sale, Gerrit Cole, Verlander who has rediscovered the fountain of youth, and Cole Hamels to a lesser degree.
