  1. Spend years b****ing about them on message boards incessantly?

  2. Now would be the time to try out TA at catcher, if that is Hahn's latest trick in his toolbox. Nobody is really blocking him there.

  3. Time for your regularly scheduled Giolito optimism/hand-wringing game thread. Is the velocity up? Is the spin rate down? Is the fastball garbage? Where is the curveball? Go Sox?

  7. At least discuss something relevant and that can actually happen. No words can explain how bad of an idea Tim Anderson catching is

  11. Off topic but Blake Snell getting snubbed is pretty crazy. AL final vote is really tough, too. Rosario, Benintendi, Segura, Simmons, Stanton. Those first four are all deserving.

  12. Forget about moving Felicio. If you can get a 1st round pick for Melo, you do it and move on.

  13. We just wanted to announce a small bit of news around FutureSox. Basically, we've come to agreement with The Loop Sports to avoid competing coverage (TLS will point to us for minors/farm content, we will help market their MLB content here and there), and to share writers. The writer sharing is already happening anyway. This just also makes sure we aren't stepping on each other's content. More details here if you'd like to read further on it. Nothing FutureSox does goes away or changes materially - we are just adding more potential writers and avoiding competition with another blog, while hopefully broadening our audiences.

  14. Close enough haha. I don’t think we would get a first round pick out of the deal but okc would save a ton in luxury tax and Bulls would get rid of the long term impacts of Felicio. I wouldn’t worry about getting too cute If I was Chicago.

  15. Not everything is reported. Look at how how wide open our pen was. There's no way they didn't check on every reliever with past success, recent struggles.

  16. That's just competing and wanting to win. Knowing he missed an opportunity. I'm sure if you asked him - he'd be fully aware that this was a big positive.

  17. Having not seen a lefty from the left side since (I'm assuming) he was a young kid or his early teen years. I highly doubt that he'll just flip on over to the left side vs LHP in the MAJORS and have it click. Lefties generally have to work a very long time to get good at that. He's hitting over .160 as a righty now. A lot of young players have done this and become decent from their weaker side. Let it keep developing. He only needs to be decent from that side and improve the gap-to-gap pop a bit. It doesn't have to be on equal footing.

  25. He was a $300K signing from recent international period out of Cuba. Never played DSL. Went straight to AZL this year but he was an older signing. He's 21 I believe

  26. Sean Williams continues his work as a new Arizona correspondent for FutureSox. He was at the AZL game last night, and got to see Ian Clarkin on rehab assignment, and some nice performances from Lency Delgado and Camilo Quinteiro among others. Here's his brief report, with video. Sounds like Clarkin got a bit of a scare, but is alright.

  28. Yeah..of course there are no guarantees the white sox will be a winner. But it's really early in the rebuild... I'm sure Astros fans were saying the same things.

  29. RealGM believes to take on Melo’s salary and hopefully dump Felicio’s contract in the process. Would also likely get a pick in the process. I guess we’ll see if the Bulls truly have the appetite to take on a shit contract.

  38. Now I know that most fans on here just want to complain. They don’t care what is really going on. Because if they did, they would get what this comment says. All this talk of winning this year or next. I guess people just don’t get it. Yes, we have been awful the last decade or so. Yes, there has been nothing to look forward too. But 18 months ago a decision was made to try and rectify it. This team is not supposed to win now. Outside of a couple players, do you really think any of the rest are any good. Now some of you don’t think things will improve even after the changes but I like what I see in the minors. Everything points to us having some good players coming up. Only time will tell for sure but so far things look good. But there is 1 problem, ITS ONLY BEEN 18 MONTHS. What happened before doesn’t matter because there was no plan. What players have been called up in those months. Lopez and Giolito? Can’t forget Moncada. Anyone else? Certainly not anybody considered to be good. Anybody who knows how this rebuild will go right now is just being ridiculous. You won’t know until 2020 at the earliest. By then we should have 2 more high draft picks and some of our high profile prospects should be up. If they suck after that then I am all for getting rid of our entire management team. They won’t deserve to have it. But right now I am very excited with the players coming up. Not just the big names. There is more to our system than just them. I hope everyone understands this and just want to vent. I can’t tell. But I am very excited to be a Sox fan. I’ve been to Wrigley and GRF is just so much more fun. I plan on going many more times because I see the whole picture and it’s looking like it will be good. You should too

  41. Jose has been complete and utter trash lately. The dude has slowed down significantly. His fat lip with half a tin in it is less tolerable when he can't hit a damn thing. He killed his trade value.

  42. That Luka Modric is so small and unassuming, yet he's been one of the most impressive players in this tourney. I know he plays for Real Madrid, but I hadn't noticed how good he was before. Good luck to you Bazox, it's better than playing France or Belgium but still gonna be tough

  43. Ok folks, we need to stop talking about the Astros and Abreu. Gurriel and Gattis are both substantially outproducing Abreu at 1b and DH. This "slump" has now gone on long enough that they would view acquiring him as a downgrade. That team does not need him unless one of those guys get hurt in the next 2 weeks.

  44. Lol - ya think? The team is only in the fourth (and soon to be third, given Seattle's fortunes this season) longest playoff drought in all of baseball as we speak, and has only played in four playoff games in total since walking off the field in Houston in October 2005. Who knew then that the next 13 seasons (and perhaps longer) would only feature one trip to the postseason for our Sox, comprising only four games and just one win. So yes, it's time. It's time to make some moves to begin to restore relevance to this team. And if that means the owner parting ways with more of his taxpayer-subsidized profits than he historically ever has, so be it.

  45. And that's the big thing that kept getting said when the Sox started their rebuild. That no team has ever started a rebuild with the massive amount of assets to sell-off to kick-off their rebuild like the Sox did. And that it should lead to a shorter rebuild than other recent teams. Now, I'm not blaming anyone for injuries which have ravaged most of our top prospects in recent months. That's just bad luck. But I also think it's time to move on some things this coming winter. I think a bigger effort to sign potentially flippable assets could have been made this past winter. I don't know if their motive was to save money, keep roster spots clear for the yutes, or if they were planning on tanking for a top 5 pick again. Only Hahn, Kenny and JR know what their true intentions were. But in any event, IMO it's time for Jerry to get the checkbook out this winter. If they have another winter of leaving gaping holes, going in to the season with an atrocious bullpen...they're going to start losing a lot of the fans that have supported the rebuild.

  46. So you're blaming the toe tap for his struggles and it's obvious?

  47. I've never been one to talk about trolling or otherwise ascribe bizarro world motivations, but you can't be serious, Greg. Or, perhaps you are serious, but self-described "baseball aficionado (at times)," or not, you don't have a particularly in-depth understanding of the great game of baseball. As far as that looking like a catcher thing ... the vast majority of catchers have been big, burly, beefy guys. They were called backstops and functioned as backstops. Sure, you can cherry-pick a few exceptions to the rule, but they are exceptions. And that's all the time I have for this, because, in the end, who cares what a solid player "looks like." Jose Altuve looks like a little leaguer, but I'd take him on my team in a heartbeat. The more fundamental problem with your recurring TA to catcher comments is that it shows no understanding about the training involved in catching and the mentality of those who catch. Emergency catchers aside, virtually everyone who catches at any advanced level of baseball has caught every day of their baseball playing life and wants to do nothing more in life than catch. These dudes are warriors. They live for catching. Not only are they involved in every single play on the field, they have to develop a rapport with the entire pitching staff, many of whom are nearly out-of-their-mind, all the while taking a physical beating like few others in sport. They are in every respect the on-field captain and they are the only player on the field who plays in the right direction -- all other players face backward! Tim Anderson is a gifted athlete who no doubt COULD catch (and learn a lot about in an off season), but the pounding of catching absolutely destroys bodies and damages hitting, running, and so forth. Why would you do that to Tim? And why is this even being discussed?

  48. And you wonder why people think you are a troll or just the fan version of Forrest Gump. I don't really know what to make of you. Attention seeker ? Brain damage? Senility ? You certainly know how to get people to respond to your posts so maybe you're a genius but with you here actual real baseball discussions suffers\ because people spend so much time responding to you and your oddity.

  49. Don't get why fans/media keep speculating a move from SS for Tim. First, why would you move a top 12 defensive player from his position (when he is young and improving)? Second, why would he even be moving? For a 5'7 Madrigal to play SS? For Machado, who is having a hilariously bad defensive season at SS? Third, why move him to the outfield long-term when that's arguably our biggest organizational strength beside pitching? Between Robert/Jimenez/Adolfo/Rutherford/Gonzalez/Basabe/Call/FA, I'm confident we'll be fine there.
