  1. This is where you have to be personally patient and instead of seeing him this year for your entertainment, you convince yourself you'd much rather he be around an extra year in his prime.

  4. Herm is only the secondary person when it comes to the number of injuries. That group is the strength and conditioning group. If the injuries take l9nger to come back from than to normal, that is where Herm and his group is involved the most. You really need to get your facts straight before you malign individuals.

  6. We should re-name this like a court case. It should be called Yoan Moncada v. the MLB Umpires Union.

  7. You should post here more often. You'll find that there are real White Sox fans here and the people who run this site are very open minded about everything that relates to the White Sox. I can't say the same thing about the mope who runs WSI.

  8. This thread doesn't include the two called third strikes tonight: When it comes to things like this, I generally think that it all evens out, as the player also gets lucky with calls the other way around. But that hasn't been the case with Moncada, He has legitimately been screwed over by called third strikes 15-25 times this year, oftentimes on pitches not even close to the zone. Why does Renteria not complain, and why have the Sox seemingly not talked to MLB about this?

  12. Great defensive game for him thus far

  13. It would be really nice if this power stroke he has had is more than a hot streak and he actually figured something out. Hard to know yet with all the injury interruptions but hope this continues.

  16. Cause they're not good hitters and have no game plan at all. Against Felix, you have to attack fastball before he uses offspeed stuff.

  17. Thankfully he broke out of his 1 at bat slump and doubled

  18. Mets also received INT money which is always hard to value. Plus, Mets didn’t eat any money. I would hope the Sox do with Soria to increase the quality of the return.

  19. Yeah, he lost by, what, 9 points on the road against a playoff team? What a loser! He didn’t do anything on a football field because he wasn’t allowed to. Give up. He has a ton of intangibles and is very raw. You assume guys like this progress, not regress like Jay did.

  21. Over last 30 days, he has the third worst fWAR in all of baseball (only Hosmer and VMart worse). On the season, he's one of the 5 worst "high leverage" hitters in baseball. For the season, he's a negative fWAR player now.

  22. Now he’s damaged goods. The Padres must have missed the scouting report about this happening before they traded for him. Hahn fleeced the Padres!

  26. Probably due to all the injuries as stated. Kubat was a starter at Nebraska for 4 seasons. He was known more as a pitcher with good control, than a strikeout machine there. He was a soft tossing lefty, that relied on changing speeds to get outs while at NU.

  28. Ricky is such a horrible manager. I never thought I'd want Ozzie back because I despised him, but now I realize how good he was. He'd be perfect for this team. Too bad he burned that bridge to the ground and pissed on the ashes. Ozzie really knew how to handle a pitching staff, and he also knew when to go get his ass tossed. Ozzie wouldn't have had a second thought about holding the Umps accountable. Renteria is chicken shit.

  29. more like 20-25% but 15% Easily. I'm starting to become convinced that Moncada banged an ump's daughter on a road trip or something. There is no other thing I can think of that could make this sort of consistency with called third strikes that aren't close to the plate.(the previous comment is obviously sarcasm) It doesn't matter where they are, or who's the home plate umpire it seems to happen at least one game per series where he gets fucked over like this.

  32. Certainly isn't any other SS (seems like that's where they want him working for now) blocking him. I dunno if he's a MLB quality SS with the arm concerns, but makes sense to try him there. Then they can move TA to catcher in 2021.

  36. Going back to the late 50s the Sox thought they had the next Mickey Mantle in Johnny Callison. He played a little bit in 1959 season but Veeck traded him in the off season with a few more very good prospects who all had very nice ML careers.

  37. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 17, 2018 -> 02:56 PM) The part where we're not competitive in 2018 and if we can find a DH who can put up 1.5 WAR in 2019 out of several minimum contract players who could very possibly do that, this would be a less than efficient use of our resources. This is, to me, the "Stay the course" part of the game. It's hard. Even Theo got seduced. Stay the course, play the kids for the entire year, and I promise, next offseason, everyone out there who someone wants to sign to fill a hole, I'm going to say "Let's do this!". We have 1 more year of doing this right. This is an incredibly simplistic view of what is occurring right now on the market. You have an outstanding player who is being undervalued due to a number of reasons, many of which are likely unique to this free agency period. Yes, I get that he is 30, and that he brings no value from the defensive side of the ball. And yes, I agree that players hitting FA around his age are likely to see length of deals decrease as baseball GMs realize that many players on the wrong side of 30, or probably more fairly, as they approach 35, are seeing a sharp decline in performance, particularly in a non-PED environment. That being said, several large market teams are sitting out on premier FAs this year due to next year FA class, as well as to reset their luxury tax penalties. Additionally, many other teams simply are accepting that rebuilds are necessary and therefore, it makes no sense to sign expensive veterans. Finally, you have a few teams like the Giants and Blue Jays who feel like they are approaching the end of their windows, and thus, have no interest in long-term deals. Then you have the White Sox and Phillies who have already begun rebuilds, have money, but are a little hesitant to go crazy in FA at the moment because they are not yet competitive enough to justify the expendititure at this stage. I get it. However, next year’s FA period will be ultra-competitive. Many large market teams, as well as some others that have been arranging their payrolls for YEARS for an opportunity to bid on a small handful of players will be all outbidding themselves. Machado and Harper will be the big prizes, and due to that competitiveness, I believe they will be paid significantly more than even reasonable projections suggest they should. Then there will be guys like Donaldson, who will happily take other significantly large deals because they will be consolation prizes. The point of this is that even though a player may not align perfectly with our trajectory for winning, that doesn’t mean we should be so rigid as to not consider acquiring him, should other factors outweigh the timing. Simply because we have the cash does not mean we will have the ability to acquire the assets in FA that we need, when we need them, as if we are purchasing them from Amazon. Doing so will likely result in out of market deals that could very likely be worse than had we simply taken the opportunities in the market as they presented themselves. I think Martinez may be one such opportunity.

  46. This is the Bears QB position we're talking about. I will assume any QB acquired by the Bears via trade or FA sucks, and any QB drafted is a bust, until proven otherwise. Following that rule, Trubisky is a bust until he proves he isn't. Simple as that. The Bears don't get to have HOF QBs. It is a fact of life, like the Yankees being good, the Cubs choking and the LA Lakers getting all of the good free agents. The Cubs winning in 2016 broke the space-time continuum, which led to the alternate reality that we are living in, in which Don Trump is POTUS. We don't want to see what happens if the Bears get a HOF QB. it would lead to nuclear war. (the previous comment is obviously a joke)

  48. Listening to Laurence Holmes talk about Trubisky on the Score makes me feel better about what I said last year about Trubisky not having the "It" factor that the great ones have. No WOW moments. I said that and everyone thought I was nuts. Listening to him say it too makes me feel a lot better about having that opinion. I want to get excited about the Bears but I just can't. Their division and Trubisky being meh put the damper on it. Probably another 5-11 season coming.
