That wasn't even close to a swing. Yoan might be too pretty for baseball. He's making all the umps jealous.3 points

If Hansen faced Collins, is there any chance the at bat would result in something other than a BB or a K?3 points

You know I am always trying to support all Sox players but it’s getting more difficult watching Engel hit2 points

Triple post time: I've determined the Moncada trolls are just salty Chris Sale fans, which is understandable. One thing they've already accomplished is managing to be more annoying than Chris Sale, which is pretty hard to do. Well done, lads!2 points

I'm forever saddened that the Hawks cast Chelios off at the end of his career - or so Wirtz & Co. thought when they didn't want to pay the Norris winner in 99 or so and gave the fucking guy away TO THE FUCKING RED WINGS for Anders Ericson and a bag of pucks (I didn't have to Google this). Chelly only went on to play like another 30 years and lead the league in +/- a few times. Guy was a beast. Chelios was a Chicago guy. Born and raised. I caught the news he had to leave the Wings to be closer to his Mom whom I'd have to assume is old as fuck a few days ago, and I'm glad he can get a check with and represent the Hawks. We need more 90s Hawks and less 60s Hawks as ambassadors anyway. Get me JR. Get me Joe Murphy, Get me Tony Amonte. Get me Sergei Krivokrasov. Gt me Eric Daze. Get me Eric Weinrich. Bring them to me. I'll never forget the first time I walked into Chelly's Chili down the road from the UC. I was home. I was among my brethren. Then they dealt him for nothing and ruined it. Anyway, I welcome Chris Chelios back with open arms and will never stop loving him. At one point I had 3 Chelios jerseys. Home White (at the time white was home), 3rd black, and Nagano Olympics. Funny aside - the 90s were my heyday as a Hawks fan. It never was more important to me. ESPN used to air outdoor beach street hockey. One day this guy was playing and talking mad shit and getting into tons of scrums on the rink. He looked just like Chris Chelios - turns out it was his brother Steve Chelios. #pointlessstory Thanks for letting me rant about Chris Chelios this morning. 🙂2 points

You the man north side. Thanks for the consistently great coverage of the minors. Contributes a lot of joy and entertainment to the daily grind2 points

Same. Everyone seems to be talking about choosing one of Delmonico or Palka when/if Jimenez gets called up - I'm leaning towards DFA'ing Davidson and letting Delmonico/Palka split DH duties.1 point

Putting all of the facts together, I must conclude that Avi is out of the lineup due to sickness from eating bad pizza.1 point

Loved Chelios. I'm good with this. One of the best American players of all time.1 point

I'll be honest, I don't think there's a chance in hell the Sox get a top 150 guy for Soria. Would you want Hahn trading someone like Rutherford or Collins for a set-up man who's not exactly dominant?1 point

And from a catcher, they're more than just respectable. They're a major asset1 point

I was actually thinking about that the other day. I live in New England part of the year and the media coverage of the Red Sox is huge( i.e.30-40 beat writers). In two years, Sale never says anything. Obviously the media is ga-ga over his performance. But Sale is pretty invisible with the press. Weird since the jersey episode was off the wall but he is pretty boring news on the days he doesn't pitch. Kind of Trout- like these days.1 point

He's already "figured it out" enough to be a regular on a lot of teams. We're talking about him becoming elite and fulfilling his potential.1 point
-
I mean, this is the key right here. The fact he’s already a 3 WAR player despite his warts will buys him time. And when we’re talking about his development, it’s going from good to great or hopefully elite. It’s going to be a while before we need to worry about upgrading a 3 WAR mid 20’s 2B if that’s all he ends up being.1 point

That word is such a poor choice in today's society. I believe you meant impairing their normal body function. 😁1 point

Be careful about posting anything negative/critical of Moncada around these parts. You will get flagged by the thought control police. Hitting 147 with a 600 OPS against left handed pitching is nothing to worry about. Moncada is still extremely young and raw. It may take him 2000 at bats until everything clicks.1 point
-
Yeah, that idea reminds me of one of the trades you constantly get proposed in fantasy. Where it's like one good player and two average players for one of your best. Then you laugh at the guy as you decline.1 point

Oakland is definitely here to stay. Billy Beane and company have quietly built one of the best young cores in all of baseball with Olson, Chapman, Manaea, Trienen, Baretto, Fowler. They’re also have more talent coming in Puk (Who figures to be a big partner of their rotation this year before TJS) and Luzardo. The Oakland A’s buying at the deadline is great for baseball.1 point

WTH is dat? LOL. It's a typo like say, mofo. Moncada can't hit Left Handed pitchers as a Right Handed hitter. But you knew that. He cannot start games against against LEFT HANDED starters if continues to hit .147 against them LOL He doesn't want to play third base and anyway, Yolmer is probably a better defender there with a superior arm. PERHAPS Madrigal could beat Moncada out for the second base job, maybe as soon as next season. My guess is that Madrigal will make all the routine plays just like he did in College, and will hit for a much higher average than Moncada and avoid all the strike outs. Moncada touted as the number one prospect in all of baseball has not yet lived up to that rating.1 point

I worry about Lopez... There's more to suggest that the first half success was a mirage, then there is to suggest he's legit.1 point

Yoan not taking good swings at all. Nothing hit hard all series, as he went 0-11.1 point

At some point we need to think about benching abreu's sorry ass and giving burn to somebody else.1 point

I would suggest just cutting Santiago, but that would upset the Tankers.1 point

Nice job by Lopez and the bullpen keeping the Mariners at 5 runs, giving theSox a chance. Of course, idiot Renteria keeps Omar’s hot bat on the bench with two on in the 7th and Smith promptly strikes out. Precisely why he cannot stay on as manager.1 point

The one thing Sox can't have it Lopez and Giolito have awful second halves and have both be question marks going into next season.1 point

Couldn't agree more. Even if it isn't junk. He shouldn't have to become worse at a great skill (zone judgement) because the Umps are bad.1 point

Moncada cannot be a full time starter if he cannot hit RH pitching, and thus far, he seems to have proven that he can't. I'm not buying excuses. This season is over half way done, Moncada will be 24 next year and Madrigal will be challenging for second base.1 point

The injuries have been absurd this year. We need to figure out what the hell is going on.1 point
-
That is the one thing that might make a legit difference between us and the Dodgers, they might be willing to offer an opt out after 2 years and the Sox just couldn't.1 point
-
I can't speak for Machado but I think the Sox would not only have to be the highest bidder, the bid would have to be significantly higher than a contenders bid. If the Sox bid say 350M and the Dodgers bid 325M I think he takes the Dodgers bid without thinking twice. Tens of millions isn't much when we're talking about hundreds of millions overall.1 point
-
A lot of numbers usually get leaked out so we will see. But I guarantee you Machado would have plenty of interest in a rebuilding team if they are the highest bidder.1 point
-
Actually they won't because none of us will know for if the Sox make an offer and if they do for how much. We will all be speculating one way or another. IMO I believe the Sox will make an offer but I don't think Machado will have interest in joining a rebuilding team.1 point

I'd probably take that bet too...but that's not what the Yankees would be asking when trading for him, they're looking to win a world series this year, and therefore his disastrous month and a half stretch would take priority. Jose Abreu right now is valueless in a trade; you could probably get someone to claim him on waivers and take him for nothing, but you are not getting talent back for Abreu right now. That's how deep and how long this stretch has been. Whether it's injury or being completely out of sync or whatever, right now Jose Abreu is a bad and overpaid hitter and that's how he has to be viewed as a trade asset.1 point
-
You're talking about teams who need to evaluate "What will this player do for me in August and September". Being terrible in June and July is really important for that evaluation.1 point
-
No team will look at Jose Abreu's numbers over the past month and a half and think so. He may well be, but he's hit .180 over the past 46 games. He may turn it back on starting next game, but he has a week and a half until the trade deadline, and any team trading for him will look at nearly 2 month stretch of being an awful hitter and think "This guy may go right back to being awful next week" because the trade deadline is in 12 days. Jose Abreu has no value in a trade right now. You could get other teams to take him as a salary dump, but the White Sox should have no reason to give him up as a salary dump. You're getting nothing of value back for Jose Abreu right now.1 point

Come on yall, the Yanks ain't looking for a pitcher like Rodon or an expensive piece in Shields. Rodon has serious usage concerns making him a big ?? in the playoffs. Shields is useless in the playoffs for them. (They need a #1 or #2).1 point

Wasn't sure where to put this because it's media related but I thought it would be OK here. Sports Business Daily came out with RSN ratings for the first half of the season and this should come as no surprise but the Sox are next to last (Both Fan Graphs and ESPN had stories with ratings in previous seasons...) Next to last is actually an improvement as they were dead last the previous two seasons. "On the other end of the coin, the Oakland A’s and Chicago White Sox remain baseball’s lowest-rated teams. A’s ratings on NBC Sports California are up 12% to a 0.67 rating this season, while White Sox ratings are down 1% to a 0.83 on NBC Sports Chicago, possibly representing the absolute low point for that franchise’s ratings."1 point
