Our country has turned into a whole slew of tattletales.5 points

He deleted them a while back, but his girlfriend's fans digged them up. His isn't bad at all really (not like Hader's crap), but you know.. pussification of America.5 points

This is one of my favorite sports photos ever, for so many reasons.4 points

Oh my god, he called someone gay when he was a teenager.. pretty sure everyone between the ages of 20-40 right now did the same thing. There's a difference between someone being immature and someone being anti-gay3 points

Kopech seems like pretty much an asshole. But he's our asshole.3 points

The people who actually spend their time doing this. Just to fuck with people's lives - based off of some shit they said in high school. Should seriously be hung in the town square and laughed at. Who the hell's public life could withstand having their teenaged years gone through with a fine-toothed comb... I know I'd be done. 95-99% of others would be too, I would suspect.2 points

Obviously this isn’t a good look, but 17 years old do say stupid things. I hope people are willing to accept that those comments don’t automatically reflect his current thinking on things.2 points

They were gaining too much ground on the Tigers lately . Don't wanna pass them up.2 points

Irrespective of where we may stand on certain issues, I do respect the fact that you havent just fallen in line like the rest of the Republican party.2 points

It's pretty badass to see all of these guys and see how highly everyone thinks of them. I long for the day when GRF has an atmosphere like the Black Out game almost every night.2 points

I’ll be interested to see him expound more on his belief and reliance upon God in the years to come.2 points

But also I just want to say that I love Eloy and am so pumped. You know that feeling we had when thomas or magglio was up in a big situation and you knew the pitcher was more scared than we were of the pitcher? I miss that.2 points

And the N word had an A at the end. Not the ER that Hader had. Speaking as a person who is of (half) African American decent, its not nearly in the same stratosphere. It's getting ridiculous though. As you said, his nephews are both half black and he's always with them as an uncle. He's dating a woman whose black. He is far from a racist. But he must be a homophobe since he called somebody a f**, which is what myself and most of America does as a teenager to their friends as a joke... yea.... pussification.1 point

Like, who ever intentionally digs this up needs to get a life.1 point

That’s what I am thinking. This guy messed up and the others took it and ran with it. No reason they should have to go back now. Bring him back when rosters expand and figure out the position during the off-season. I would guess Castillo plays for the White Sox next year. He also is one of Machado’s buddies. So maybe he will work on him. I used to be anti juice . But who knows who does what. He paid his debt, move on.1 point

Granted the tweets weren’t right, but he was 17... I remember when I was 17, geez. Let it go.1 point

Well he clearly doesn't hate all black people. Anyone comparing these comments to Hader or Josh Allen is just a psycho Cubs fan trying to distract from Murphy being anti-gay people.1 point
-
probably...it's what people do for some reason. This is that chick's 10 minutes of fame...bfd. Looks to me like he accepted it was pretty immature (which shocker...a 17 year old being immature) and moved on.1 point

Whooa wait.. there are still mlb players who didnt look over their twitter history after what happened during the allstar break? What was kopechs agent doing?1 point

Good mature ownership and response. Hopefully, the truth.1 point

You're kind of cranky dude. I apologize I missed it. No need to be a internet tough guy over a simple question (that I edited), especially when I wasn't even talking to you.1 point

that's his vesting option they reworked his contract for the tank year.1 point

Currently they're in 3rd pick slot and the Padres and Tigers are probably their main competition for 4th.1 point

I'm usually not so critical but almost every time I typed something today the Sox do good. Rondon hits a 2 run HR after i see AVi hit into a DP and i wrote my previous post. But Big Lame James didn't let me down at least.1 point

No, I understand math well enough to know that sometimes things like that cause a statistical anomaly. Nobody in their right mind would think that Schwarber is better defensively than Trout. If one had that thought, they shouldn't be allowed to watch baseball anymore.1 point

Nolan Gorman is 18 years old and only a level below Madrigal. Gorman may be in the Show long before his 21st birthday. I would take him in a hearbeat over Madrigal right now but that ship has sailed. Albies is 20 years old and two years younger than Moncada lol! In what world is a wRC+ of 107 bad? Have you seen Moncada's wRC+?1 point

He clearly wants to be in Chicago, like Abreu. That 7th year isn't worth having him unhappy he wasn't promoted like Kopech. Theo will use this to his advantage when those 7 years are up. I'd take my chances that he will re-sign with us if our front office builds a legit team and pays him top dollar. If we have no intention of re-signing him then I can see where that extra year would be crucial.1 point

I am sure it would be largely based on the most recent deals. Tim Anderson's 6/25 is our most recent. Scott Kingery got a 6/24 +3 team options before his ML debut. Paul DeJong got a 6/26 +2 team options after his first partial season up. If I had to guess, something like those with maybe up to 6/30 in the initial years, and 2 to 3 years worth of team options on the end.1 point

https://deadspin.com/white-sox-prospect-yoan-moncada-eats-up-to-85-twinkies-1793613366 Just found out about this article from Spring of 17. The guy was eating 85 twinkies a week as a multi-multi millionaire professional athlete? I understand that he was a young man just arriving in a new country, but he is far far from your average "joe" and has financial priviledges that most of us will never come close to having. That kind of behavior should have set off some alarms and served as a red flag about the kid's work ethic. Also, the quotes from Keith Law about Moncada's hit tool have been very accurate some 18 months later. Moncada has to learn how to adjust his hitting approach and cut down his K rate. His 2018 has been worse than his 2017 and that is very alarming.1 point

The Sox are doing the right thing here. Long term, 162 games in a potentially meaningful season is far more valuable (even if is an expensive season) than 40ish in a lost season.1 point

That's awesome. I was in front of the bullpen for Rodon's first appearance. He was all over the place and then proceeded to have a terrible inning. Very anti-climactic compared to Kopechs1 point

Seeing the reception for Kopech just makes me all of the more excited for Eloy. I wonder what effect that night has had on upper management?1 point

"I've been waiting to play pro ball in Chicago since I was 11." That extra year of service time shouldn't be a big deal if we play our cards right. We may want to call him up to avoid creating bad mojo and sending him to the Cubs after the 7th year.1 point

I wouldn't expect Shields going anywhere at this point. Garfien had a new Kopech podcast and said the Sox had Shields pick him up at the airport and show him the ropes around the stadium (including a game of catch) for 3 hours on Monday. The Sox also have Kopech's locker strategically in-between both Shields and Giolito. They clearly want Shields to be the go-to guy for advice. And before everyone jumps all over this with the "Shields sucks" posts - James Shields had an extremely successful pitching career. His time with the Sox may have been mediocre and disappointing, but he still has plenty of pitching knowledge that the younger guys can learn from. It's not the end of the world if he sticks through the rest of the season, and I honestly feel comfortable knowing the Sox have a guy that can eat up innings while the younger guys take their lumps and bruises as they all approach career highs in IP.1 point

I have no problem picking 6th if it means our pitchers and Moncada have all stepped up.1 point

I agree with this, but have to admit I was on the other side of the argument earlier. I though Ricky was good for this situation but after seeing all the bunting, bad managing, etc...I think it is time to get a real manager and Girardi would be perfect. Not so sure he would want to come or if the Sox even have that on their radar but I think Joe is one of the best out there and can’t believe he doesn’t have a job.1 point
-
Best thing that can happen for this kid now is to get lost in the Kopech hype and then get lost in the Eloy hype when it happens. Ricky installing him as the leadoff hitter was a mistake in hindsight, a big one. Kid's had a bullseye on his back all year and he's obviously not mature enough to handle it yet. That's something the manager, especially one annointed a "latin whisperer" should recognize IMO. It's the same BS we saw when Robin anointed Eaton. Stop crowning these guys in spring fucking training. The managers we've had in Chicago since Ozzie left have been absolute dog shit and it's not doing the players any favors. We need a fire and brimstone type imo. Girardi would be perfect for a guy like Yoan imo. Has the gravitas to make him work and not in a father figure role but as his boss and leader.1 point
