  1. I've been a pretty big contributor here for a long time(started posting at SoxTalk in Jan of 06 after defecting from WSI), but this weekend has kind of broken me as a fan. I might take a year off and not care even close to as much about my Chicago sports teams. I'm posting this because of my posts in the past about MI/Autism, and I don't want anyone to worry about me. I'm fine. I'm just catching up developmentally and growing as an adult. I'm starting to realize a lot more where my priorities are, and sports, quite frankly, isn't one of them right now. I'm already pretty invested in this season, So I'll stick around until I start my new job leading up to the last week of the season, after that, all bets are off. I don't know if I'll return or not. Who Knows? I might like not wasting time on watching a silly game a lot more than wasting time on it. I've been working really hard to eliminate pessimistic thoughts, and sports are letting them creep back into my brain. I can't have it and it isn't healthy for me. Peace, Parkman

  2. As my wife once told me when she became a bit irritated how much time I was spending with baseball games, it's just a bunch of uneducated men in silly costumes, running around in dirt trying to hit a ball with a stick. I was actually thinking more about this after the Bears game last night. as I do from time to time, and listening to how pissed off OB and Hampton were after the game. Yeah it's great when they win. It's great when the Sox win, but in the end, it really isn't that important. If your overall happiness depends on these teams being successful, you're screwed.

  3. Roughly. The tendon needs to essentially die and regenerate. Believe it or not when you take a tendon (they usually use the palmaris longus if they have one or the plantaris) and put it where a ligament was, the tendon regenerates to have more of the physiologic properties of a ligament. Some speculate that it is response to stress but no one is really sure why this happens. Anyway the dying and regeneration process alone is 3-4 months.

  4. The fundamental difference between the rebuilds that the Cubs and Astros underwent vs. the one the White Sox are currently slogging through is that the other two teams replaced incompetent owners with competent ones, and those new owners immediately replaced the incompetent front offices they inherited with new, competent ones, and are each now presiding over powerhouse organizations as a result. Meanwhile, the status quo remains in place over on the South Side.

  5. Yoan Moncada= Strike out king with less WAR on the year than David Bote Lucas Giolito= xFIP of 5.48. That is no bueno. Reynaldo Lopez=xFIP of 5.42. Not as bad as Giolito but still no bueno Michael Kopech= In the infirmary for the foreseeable future Luis Robert= No homers so far in full season minor league play and is built like the tin man. Nick Madrigal= No dingers or triples in 43 minor league games Jake Burger= Probably retore his achilles answering the door for his Dominoes Pizza delivery Carson Fulmer= Soon to be pursuing opportunities on the traveling swim meet circuit as a goggle salesman. Letting Rick Hahn and company architect this rebuild was a terrible decision. Where is the light at the end of the tunnel?

  6. Kris Bryant spent half of a season at AAA, before getting sent back briefly in 2015. Eloy Jimenez's time in AAA will be less than a half a season when he goes back next year. Vlad Jr spent 30 games at AAA. Peter Alonso has spent about as much time at AAA as Kris Bryant. All of these guys are causing outrages for spending about half a season at AAA. Kopech has already spent about a full year at AAA. If he hadn't been recalled, and had been sent back to AAA to game service time, we will be trying to say that the top pitching prospect in baseball needed parts of three different seasons at AAA, despite the numbers he was putting up. It is becoming harder to justify the first four scenarios, and those guys are talking about filing grievances. I have NO idea how you could justify leaving Kopech at AAA AND THEN sending him back to AAA again next year. I get wanting the control, but let's be realistic here and recognize that these scenarios are NOT the same.

  7. I would disagree. Unless you only wanted him be benched at the end of August next year, if they were competing, due to an innings limit. He needed to extend his innings this year to be ready for a full season next year.

  8. Are the White Sox purposely losing to boost the team's draft position or is it just a lot of bad luck combined with the frustration over Kopech?

  9. I understand the gist of this post, but it isn't realistic. As men we enjoy our sports because we grow up loving our teams. It's a pride thing and gives us all something to bond over. There is nothing wrong with being attached like I told my SO's sister. She spends all her time watching the fake bachelor, Bachelorette, bachelor's in paradise, etc. Women have their TV shows and things they get attached to and talk about for weeks on end with friends. We have our sports.

  10. From a management perspective, I agree. However, the strength/conditioning staff and medical should focus on preventing them.

  11. ^^ Agreed. I have no clue if they were conservative. If anything I wish they would have been more conservative in terms of running more. Nagy said today he wished Howard would have had more than 15 carries. You're the coach, clown. Call more run plays then. He's starting to become Trestmany.

  12. I feel you dude. This will be my last post until next spring or maybe winter meetings time. I really lost it the other day as really about 10 years of frustration with the Sox (and all my teams really, it's been by far the worst decade of my fandom for UM, USMNT, Bulls and Sox) boiled over on the Kopech news. Enjoy talking about the Sox guys, in general Soxtalk.com had a really great year IMO. Place got some new blood, new design, and the FutureSox crew continues to expand their work. See everyone in spring (or winter)!

  13. Burdi had his the last week of July in 2017 and reported to AZL for rehab in August of 2018. A similar pace would have him ready about the time that the season would be ending at the major league level.

  14. I know this wasn't the spirit of the original post, but this thread made me think of this scene again. Peace.

  15. I don't see how anyone can spin it that losing ~20% of control of a front of the rotation pitcher is anything but crippling. Its an absolute kick straight to the nuts. He was one of the 3 main pillars of this rebuild, and at this point its tough to count on him for much of anything until 2021. And which point he'll have spent 2 seasons and change on the active roster if the Sox keep him on the MLB DL.

  16. I wish you all the best jack and should you decide to return we'll be here. I know what you're going through. I've changed my approach to baseball. If I'm home and have nothing going on with wifey then I watch my favorite team play ball. But if I have other things to do then I do them and watch highlights when I have the chance. Chicago summers are too short to spend so much time in front of the idiot box so I try to get outdoors and live a little when I can. Best of luck Jack!

  17. And even then, I would have went for it on 4th and 1. Either way, Rodgers is scoring a TD, so a 24-23 loss is the same as 24-20.

  18. Guys, to clarify, it isn't as much about the emotional investment as it is the time investment. We only have so much time to walk this planet. I've been watching 120+ Sox games, 50+ Hawks games and every Bears game since I was 13. I can't even begin to fathom all of the countless hours I've spent on message boards. I want to explore other things I can do with that time. I have other hobbies, such as fishing, amateur astronomy, and chess that I also love doing and I'm taking away from the enjoyment of those activities by watching men in costumes play a children's game. I'm not completely giving up on sports, but it is going to the bottom of my priority list. If I have an opportunity to do those other things, I'm going to make that choice now. 19 years of making gameday the priority for my leisure time is enough.

  19. Realistically, sports is supposed to be an outlet from life. If it is becoming stressful, it is time to walk away because you aren't doing it right.

  20. Take it easy, man. It's just a game. Once you stop enjoying it, stop watching for a while. We'll all be nerding the hell out over here for a while.

  21. At some point, Bears are going to have to win games. It’s been 4 years.

  22. Is Lopez going to turn out to be a decent starter? Let’s wait and see how he does against a playoff-caliber roster...and it’s not like Walker is projected to be a Gold Glove level outfielder, he’s a better version of Call/Fisher from previous drafts, sure, but how much better and where does he play? For every “Walker was the best pure hitter in the draft” argument, there will be the retort that we said the same thing about Zach Collins, who isn’t currently listed on any Top 100 lists. You can make the argument we need a starting pitcher at the back end and a higher upside CFer a lot more over the next 2-3 seasons, unless we are going to completely write off 2020 as well. Before long, we will be arguing that we need to trade Moncada because we’ll only be competitive in his three most expensive arbitration years. Then, we’ll basically be the Pirates.

  23. Go look at the Yankees and the Athletics, the 2 teams that are going to take the AL Wild Card this year, and ask yourself if your roster comes anywhere close to measuring up to them. Severino, Judge, Torres, Stanton, Chapman, and $50 million+ to play with this offseason, and they're a wild card team. Really, you think you're going to sneak into a wild card spot in this league with Moustakas and Cargo? Not with these teams. If you're going to sign someone, fine. Clearly we have to sign 2 starting pitchers minimum, we simply don't have the horses right now to even field a roster. But don't even think about the Wild Card while doing it, think about the holes you have and flipping guys only. If some magic happens and Moncada outplays Trout next year, then great, but you can't make business decisions where a key part of it is "and then a miracle occurs".

  24. U guys really think this guy has had a good year and shown improvement from last year? When I look at his stats I see a barely above replacement player who has a lower wRC than heavy hitters like Alen Hanson. Nothing about this kid screams elite to me. Go watch Atlanta, NY, or the Nats if you want to see some truly elite young talent.

  27. The epic fail was thinking this needed it's own post, let alone it's own thread. There is a section of Soxtalk that needs a binky.

  28. This Kopech news has hit me hard, but the worst part without question is having to endure Tommy Longo trying to use this as part of his agenda. Rick Hahn did NOT cause the tear in Kopech’s UCL and using that against him is just plain trolling.

  29. in 2020 he'll need to be in the minors for total days in the 2020 MLB calendar + 40 - 171 to only reach 5 years and 171 days of service time (172 days equal a full year of service time) at the end of 2024 and delay FA until 2026 So he'll need to be in the minors for about 55 days in 2020 for the Sox to gain an extra year of control unless the CBA changes

  30. Well I guess if you want to just count the players you want to count and ignore all of the players they actually acquired, you can use any number you care to.
