  1. They’re really nothing alike. At least Bellinger has legitimate value in the field and base paths. Dunn had none.

  2. Bellinger sucks. Already hoping too many guys bounce back as is.

  3. I like the idea of Bellinger but the dude’s first love is smoking pot. Combining him with a guy addicted to Dominos pizza (Moncada) might be risky.

  6. Yeah I mean, I guess I just need to see it to believe it. If I were Rick I’d underpromise as well. He’s gone the over promise route and he gets skewered for it daily. I don’t really give two shits about what Twitter blowhards like Josh Nelson, Eloy v Wall, NBB and the foodies have to say on the budget. But yeah, if for some reason $180M is the number, may as well trade everyone not named Luis Robert, hope he has a monster season, then trade him too. Because you can’t build a competitive roster with $10M when you have 1 OF and 4 SP, and all the main offensive issues from 22 are still present, less perhaps the best hitter on the team. and fwiw, I don’t really think projecting the same payroll as 2022 should be labeled optimism. I think it’s just the baseline projection until it’s not, despite the meaningless early offseason chatter.

  7. I’d acquire one of the left handed hitting OFs and a SP and go to battle. Might be tough to do with $15M. I will assume Sox will operate with $190-200M payroll until they don’t. Which means they have more like $25-30M to spend. If Sox can only spend $15M this offseason, not only are they their biggest impediment, but they should just trade everyone of value because they aren’t going to win jackshit.

  8. I honestly can't even be mad at the Padres anymore. The Sox are the authors of their own failures.

  9. Luis was the Domino's guy, Mocada was (allegedly) Twinkies. Nonetheless, team munchies for sure.

  10. What the White Sox could/should be but we have an owner too worried about losing money….you know what doesn’t lose you money….putting a winning ball club out there year after year

  11. Which would be ridiculous. It shows he has no confidence in his people building a team that fans will be interested to watch at the ballpark or on TV. Why are those clowns still making decisions? This half assed approach has worked once in 42 seasons. Why is it still being attempted? White Sox fans deserve ownership committed to winning. If you are going to go for it, go for it. Or sell the team to someone who will. That way we all win. Sox fans can follow a team who believes winning is more important than be totally loyal to dear leader. And JR can spend the rest of his days counting his money.

  12. I don't understand how this thread is still going with Bellinger being a free agent.

  13. Abreu would have so much fun with that Padres team, hope it happens.

  14. Jorge Alfaro is a guy I wouldn’t mind picking up as a backup.

  15. I would be ok with Abreu going to SD. They are a team actually trying to win and Pito deserves to go to a functional organization.

  16. What exactly would this accomplish? Other than creating a new hole to be filled w/o actually filling a need?

  17. Good luck Hahn, no chance he can find a OF AND SP for $7.5M a piece. Even trading prospects, they still can't add to much with whomever they acquire.

  18. The extent to which the Sox are relying on someone who might not even be a consensus top 100 prospect to step in and immediately be a productive player is insane.

  19. Can't wait for both to get hurt playing in meaningless games.

  20. It's funny, because if you use the standard that is always used for tax cuts, this is WAY more efficient. The spending rates of the people who still have student loans are WAY higher than where most of the tax cuts of recent years have gone. But of course that gets forgotten here.

  24. I meant with the bat. But yes you are right in that sense. Still I would stay away

  25. Yeah as much as I don't like the Padres for stealing everybody we try to sign or trade for, I'd much rather he go there than the Cubs, Guardians, or Astros.

  26. Very good at getting NL players who don't perform for them. Fans are getting to the point of considering any outsider with a pulse. More dumpster diving. The Dodgers have superior coaching and somehow the Sox would turn him around? Amazing how are conditioned to a failed value system. Over half of the games Sox scored 3 runs or less.

  27. Crazy talk . He'd kill to get a contract like that. He'll be lucky to get a 2 year $20M contract. There's only so much money anyone wants to pay for guys who can field and run and hit a few HR's like Bellinger and Gallo while batting in the low .200s. Arestides Aquino can do that stuff and I don't see anyone clamoring for him. Hell if Aquino had had as many AB's as Bellinger he probably hits twice as many HR's as Bellinger. He might not be LHH, CF like Bellinger or run like Bellinger but has a hell of an arm and plays a nice corner OF and won't cost squat. His numbers are similar to Moncada. How do you feel about Moncada ? Bellinger had a higher fWar than Moncada basically due to more playing time in CF and a being a better base runner. I know we all want to discuss bigger possibilities than DFA guys but even a top nontender expecting a $10M contract is beyond the Sox grasp. They have too many holes to fill and they are going to have to find much cheaper options. Which is why I've been recommending DFA guys and trades for AAA guys like Outman. The new rebuild or hard retool, whatever you want to call, it should be starting but it isn't. Hahn is going to keep pretending they are competing to draw the casual fan into attending but it will result in ultimate failure. They could bounce back for a year if they stay healthy and our Bellinger (Moncada) can get his act together but they fucked around for 2 years skipping the finalization part of the rebuild with inept executives in charge. Now it's on life support.

  28. I say it all the time, but if this was any other business the Sox would be down & out. Jerry refuses to invest in his product to drive customer demand like any other business would. Instead, he simply rolls forward with a budget that is more or less influenced by the prior season. He refuses to take the smallest amount of risk because god forbid he and him shareholders took a tiny loss in a given season. I knew he was a terrible businessman when the Sox never really pursued Bryce Harper. Signing Bryce would have transformed the organization and made him money hand over fist, but Jerry had nightmares about having to pay a guy into late 30’s / early 40’s when he may no longer be productive. This clown literally passed on a signing the most marketable star in baseball because the end of the contract may suck despite Jerry almost certainly being in the grave at that point. Jerry is just a terrible fucking owner and I’m going to celebrate like it’s my wedding night again when he’s finally gone.

  29. And they just keep doing this sort of thing over and over. Surely Andrew Vaughn can step in and be an adequate outfielder. Surely Gavin Sheets can be our big left handed bat (and an adequate outfielder lolol). If it works out, they’re the smartest guys in the room (and they’ll be sure to let you know it). And if it doesn’t work out, there aren’t really any repercussions, at least not ones they seem to care much about.

  35. Ruiz at that salary and as the ~7th or 8th best reliever in the pen is fine, but I think you'd get more use from that spot going with a slightly worse pitcher who has options remaining to maintain roster flexibility. Tendering Ruiz puts the Sox in a position where almost no one in the pen can be optioned during the season.

  37. People like to crap on Moncada but since his first full season in '18 with the Sox he played 149 of 162, 132 of 162, 52 of 60, 144 of 162, and 104 of 162. Whether or not he is fully healthy, the guy still plays most of the time.

  38. You move along. How often do you have to be told that defensive stats are not stats that can do used in short sample sizes One year of stats is never enough. Your ignorance is astounding. Your baseball knowledge terrible.

  39. I really liked the 83s when they first brought them back, but it’s time to retire them again IMO. Or at least give us an update with similar branding but way less ugly. Either way it’s time for a new regular alternate.
