  1. And let's be honest, if we are going to root through other teams trash to put together our roster next year, I would much rather target someone like Alex Reyes, seeing as we have a guy who seems to improve the pitchers on his staff, versus who knows how we handle some of these other position players. I go cheap where I trust my staff most, not least.

  2. Well one is a free agent and the other will be wanted by more than one team and you've called this farm trash. I think we should get Julio Rodriguez. Guy seems really good. Way better than Bellinger.

  3. Alright boys, probably good to have this debate come to an end. I think we can all agree that Boston shouldn’t be retained due to his on the field record alone.

  4. What are you talking about? Our outfield defenders all improved under him.

  5. The one instance where the Sox don't go the nepotism route or just bring in whoever they're most comfortable with. 🙂

  6. Ideally Yeolki Cespedes comes in with some improvement and can be a 4th outfielder. He looks like a good option defensively, just need some offense.

  7. From MLB Pipeline late season 2022 James Outman OF, Los Angeles Dodgers James Outman. AGE 25 BATS L DOB 05/14/1997 THROWS R HT 6' 3" DRAFTED 2018, 7th (224) - LAD WT 215 ETA 2022 Scouting grades: Hit: 45 | Power: 55 | Run: 60 | Arm: 60 | Field: 60 | Overall: 50 Though Outman batted just .249 in three seasons at Sacramento State, the Dodgers bought into his intriguing all-around tools and selected him in the seventh round of the 2018 Draft. He began to break out with 11 homers in the final month of the 2019 season in Low-A and took another step forward in the second half of 2021, batting .297/.392/.568 while advancing to Double-A. He built on that momentum in the Arizona Fall League and claimed a spot on the 40-man roster. Outman began to perform better at the plate as he gained a better understanding of his left-handed swing. He still aggressively looks to launch balls to his pull side, but slowing things down enabled him to chase fewer pitches out of the zone and access his plus raw power more consistently. He still strikes out too much to post high batting averages, though he compensates by drawing plenty of walks and hit by pitches. One of the best athletes in the system, Outman is a 6-foot-3, 215-pounder with plus speed and arm strength. He has aptitude for stealing bases and swiped 23 in 27 attempts last season. He has instincts to go with his quickness in center field and provides plus defense at any of the three outfield spots.

  10. $2.16M for money but not all are available so you are talking about holes elsewhere or prospects. James Outman is 25, Stone Garrett is 26, Bellinger is only 27. Outman also struck out 150 times in between AA and AAA, that's about the same swing-and-miss as Bellinger in the majors. Garrett hits RH. He also is good defensively and is fast. He's left handed. That doesn't sound like bad money after bad. It's risky during a contention window due to the lower guarantee of production, but that is the case with the others.

  11. I think they created the title for Tosar so they would be able to get him out of KC. I imagine that Tosar would oversee the hitting coach(es).

  12. You just did more research and put in more time than the actual front office of this team will put into signing this guy. Kudos.

  14. I know Schilling is a douche, but he should get in. He was a great pitcher. Lots of athletes are jerks.

  15. Yeah I think it's worth bringing in him back on a minor league deal. It seems like at least a handful of teams do this every off-season. That way they won't have to carry him on the 40-man roster all off-season.

  16. His ACL tear was on June 23. Assuming about a year of rehab to get back, that is half of the season we would be paying him to take up a roster spot, especially over the winter. I would love to have him back and see if his breakout was for real, but he isn't worth playing a man short on the roster half of the season.

  17. I agree with this. If he's healthy he needs to play, every game this season is important for his growth as a QB for when this team is hopefully ready to compete, which can be as early as next season.

  18. I assume they will hold him through the bye week and than have him play the final quarter of the season. With that said - if he can go you play him. This is the NFL and he still has a lot of learning and development to do. If nothing else - force a window where he has to just pass - even if it is ugly - force quick reads etc as a way to develop.

  20. I know there's only so much that you can do to replace Robert when he gets hurt, but you also have to have a backup plan that is good enough where if Robert, I dunno, hurts his wrist, they're willing to put him on the IL for 15 days to let it heal rather than rushing him back and screwing things up for months. That at least has to be part of it, you can't be in a spot where "I can't afford to not play Robert because my backup options are so bad" becomes a thing. I'd say based on very recent history that "Engel, Colas moving over from RF and Sheets playing there for 2 weeks, Leury playing out there" - all of those are pretty darn insufficient.

  21. I think they have resigned themselves to going over the luxury tax.

  22. Do you really think anyone here has any confidence in Leury as the main backup plan in CF for Robert?

  23. Colas is much higher ranked and younger than either. Outman is the 13th ranked Dodgers prospect. Garrett can’t even stick on the DBacks 40. If you traded Burger or Hendriks for them, you’ve been had. I do think trading Hendriks makes sense, but for real prospects. If Hahn wanted these guys for Charlotte, I have no complaints, but chances are they are guys that will be appealing to the Pacific Rim soon.

  24. If we want a Left Handed RF/LF with power and plus defense Isn't Gallo a better fit? Gallo also walks a TON, something we lack.

  25. based on the names i've seen floating around twitter I am not surprised, but still disappointed this is the path we're considering. I have many doubts we'll find lightning in a bottle on guys that others are passing on. i like hendriks a ton, but at this point it seems like the only viable option to bring back real, meaningful talent since JR and team will not be putting in a real effort to supplement the talent we already have.

  26. Cody was high for the entirety of the 2020 playoffs and he did just fine!

  27. I think they should try something new like getting a player that is actually good (Bryan Reynolds) instead of a player that is bad (Cody Bellinger) that they hope will be good but will likely remain bad.

  28. I'd rather have more of a sure thing than just "he plays great defense and runs fast." There's guys out there that they can pay a fraction of the price that can play defense and run fast. I get you are paying for the potential in the bat, but it's kinda silly to cite defense and speed as reasons you want him here when others can do that. Edit: that said, I don't think he signs here and goes somewhere where he will play CF while he tries to rebuild value with the bat.

  31. Would be a terrible allocation of an already limited payroll… sounds like a Sox move.
    1 point
  32. Not only that, but do we really think Bellinger has any interest in coming to the Sox? If half the league is in on him, we all know the Sox aren't providing him the best offer, so he's literally have to choose to play here. I see zero reason Chicago would top his list other than pot being legal.

  33. I don't necessarily endorse getting Bellinger, but the Sox need to sign at least one pitcher and probably an outfielder from the Bellinger, Conforto, Benintendi, Nimmo group. I know Hahn says he's going to solve their problems via trade, but I just don't see the assets to do that. Right now, this team has more money than players and should act accordingly. Especially since they have quite a bit of cash coming off the books in the next two years.

  38. Valid points. Personally I've never cared for the WBC. These guys need as much time off as possible to heal and be supervised by the Sox staffs for the first time since the pandemic. I don't know what leverage the Sox have in this but if they do I hope they say, "no."

  39. I like it. You more or less worked within the budget. Garrett for Romy is plausible. I've recently been saying Burger or Yolbert so Romy fits right in among who it might take to get Garrett. I always applaud effort for the time it takes to do what you and Bmags did. I just hope Az. isn't looking for pitching for Garrett. Mets just picked up 2 pitchers who were DFA'd in a trade with Marlins. Sox need pitching too. Hahn still sucking his thumb in the fetal position when he could be building depth now for scraps. Scraps for scraps let's go get some more useful pieces.

  40. Favorite- Gray road jersey with diamond sock patch. No Nike logo. The 83s have been overdone. I suppose they have to do it one more year for the 40th anniversary, but I hope they’re done after that.
