  1. Hey, as jim bowden said, you cannot rule Jerry Reinsdorf out

  2. To me, the owner's responsibilities are: 1. Hire the right staff (executives) who will make the right baseball decisions. Get the right leadership in place. 2. Give the baseball staff the resources ($$, namely) and autonomy to make the right decisions. Let the leadership do their jobs. To me JR has failed in these regards. The constant "promote within the family" mentality undercuts objective #1. Objective #2 you can make maybe make an argument for, but the fact is: This team is being out-contract-spent by the Twins The Twins have now committed 9-figure deals to 3 players I think of off the top of my head (Mauer, Buxton, and now Correa), whereas the Sox's largest contract is $75MM JR has shown to insert himself into lower-level decisions to undercut his own executive staff Hiring of a manager Refusing to pay top dollar for pitching after shelling out for Jaime Navarro The results are that, in 41 years of owning the team, he's brought home 1 World Series championship. He's brought home 1 AL pennant. If it weren't for literally lucking into the greatest basketball player who ever played, he'd have 1 championship in 78 combined years of sports ownership.

  3. 3rd. Correa has agreed to a a minimum of $865 million and 21 years worth of contract this winter. I think the max is like 25/$935.

  4. Ouch. This is a kick to the nuts for the Sox. Sox rebuild never stood a chance if JR wasn't going to pony up for any big time FA.

  5. I'm not sure I fully understand the logic behind "wow, the Twins are lucky Correa's medical risk profile turned out to be serious enough to scare multiple other teams away". I guess time will tell. Anyway, that cheater's presence on their roster continues to be another reason to hate the Twins.

  6. He lost $350M in total negotiations and $85M from the Twins. 7 years got lopped off his contract. The physical maybe mostly complete, but something is still clearly wrong.

  7. Well they were a third place team behind the Sox last year with Correa, so not sure the math really checks out. Both teams of course were far from full strength.

  8. I just don't see Correa becoming an albatross. Especially if the deal improves from 10/$285M, which is sounds like it is. I think this is a bad scenario for the Sox.

  9. I'd much rather see the Twins spending on 3rd or 4th tier players than stars like Correa, personally. The knee is what teams are seemingly concerned about and clearly it's not affected his performance at all to this point of his career.

  10. I know Liam reads through our posts on Soxtalk.. Liam, you got this buddy! We love you, we’re praying for you and we wish you a speedy recovery. The 2023 season is dedicated to you!

  11. I'm sorry, in 2023 are you actually trying to make the argument that Sox fans don't support the organization enough?

  12. The only correct take is "time will tell" Nobody knows how this turns out ultimately. It's all probabilities and risk appetite. The Twins ownership has as much $$ as the Steinbrenners. All drops in a bucket at the end of the day.

  13. Replace Popeye with Marisnick. As of right now, I feel like he’d be favorite for right-handed OF bench option.

  14. As long as we had a seat at the table I’m cool with it.

  15. Why couldn't Manny Machado have a bum ankle?
    2 points
  16. The only reason the Twins offered $200M a month after offering $280M is because their competition started dropping out. They already knew the medicals. They already know about the ankle. They saved $80M a month later because other teams got scared. What a slam dunk outcome for them.

  17. Just awful for the Sox. Twins aren’t close to being done either.

  18. So now we are a third place team....yaay

  20. should also be a red flag that the marlins signed him.

  21. They say doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is the definition of insanity, but what they don’t tell you is getting it right one of those times is the definition of a super genius front office.

  22. The playoffs did not exist twenty years before Reinsdorf bought the team. The Tampa Bay Rays didn’t exist until 17 years after he bought the team. They’ve won more playoff games than Reinsdorf.

  24. You'd think by my age I would remember to carry the one. Its 31/865 or 35/935.

  25. Even if the Sox were to sign Elvis, Leury is still the 26th man. It’s Romy that would probably lose his roster spot. No reason to cut Leury right now.

  26. If you're suggesting that adding great players to a team does not guarantee success, well, sure. So the alternative is not doing that because there's a chance it might not work out?

  27. No opt outs apparently. Twins did well here.

  28. There are sooo many good RBs in this FA class and Monty may not even be top 5. Fournette was the top back last year and got 3 for 21, with 9 million guaranteed. I have a hard time believing he beats that. I think he's more in the 2 for 14 territory

  29. I remember seeing something last week by a Giants writer that he had heard Correa’s ankle was terrifying and worse than people know.

  31. Would be shocked if they don’t trade for a Marlins pitcher

  32. However, they did have a better run differential than the White Sox - the White Sox outperformed their record in 1-run games (27-16 record) while Minnesota underperformed (20-28). That may have something to do with bullpen quality and it may also just be luck of the draw - the White Sox had a below .500 record in those games in 2021, while a last place Twins team had an above .500 record in that case.

  33. Well that's the thing, I don't like hunting for average because then you tend to get below average in FA. Hahn always pays in FA to stabilize and ends up wasting a bunch of money that should be filled internally. In theory you can then bundle up that money for a difference maker, but that's so far from how the sox operate. Anyway I still think we should try to get Schoop for a song.

  34. 1 year, 8.5mm or two years and 17mm .... I'm sorry but that's just reasonable. I don't care about his injury history or that his underlying data points to some struggles. I've seen year after year of guys like Rich Hill get deals. I've seen teams run out piss poor #5's from the minors while trying to be competitive. Hell, last year we'd be dead in the water without Johnny. Guys like VV continue to get several million a year .. Not only the Sox, but how the rest of the league passed on him after this past season at that price is asinine. Also agree that the Marlins are now likely to trade a SP. They should've been in that mindset regardless, but now should really be in that mindset. But who knows, marlins are a terrible franchise. If I'm them I'm trading Luzardo and Pablo both to the highest bidder and which returns the best AAA and AA bats.

  35. I can't get this idea of them trading prospects *and* money for Segura come July when he could have just been signed over the winter out of my head

  36. Probably not a great sign for our Sox when I'm jealous by the thought of another team trading for Joey Wendle.

  37. They'll inevitably overpay for a closer/backend reliever at the deadline.

  38. I don’t think investing big money into a RB with so much mileage and injury history is a good idea. If that was the “missing” piece to a playoff team then sure, but not in their current state.
