  1. Ah signing day, when 29 mlb organizations try their hardest to get a little better than their competitors.

  3. The Bulls remind me alot of the White Sox. Just mired in mediocrity. Not good enough to compete for a championship and not bad enough to tank for a top pick either.

  5. Really good article on the Athletic about Liam and the people he's reached out to since coming to town. https://theathletic.com/4082449/2023/01/13/liam-hendriks-cancer-lymphoma-charitable-work/ Without stealing too much from the article: He's been helping the community in a whole lot of ways.

  8. I love this move. Huge step in the right direction on how they should be getting these players game day ready and putting them in the best position to have success and reach their potential.

  12. Rule change for player safety and to avoid gray area calls. Any pitched ball that enters the batter's box is an automatic walk whether it hits the batter or not.

  13. As a UK Sox fan and a keen cricket fan, the ball tracking technology in cricket has only improved the game and helps the on field umpires. It has actually helped change the game for some bowlers who weren't getting marginal lbw decisions given before that are now being given using the video technology. In the same way in baseball it will help those pitchers who can hit the corners of the zone but with human umpires would not always get the call. It may lead to an increase increase strike outs until hitters adjust but that is up to them to do and those who can't will suffer. So overall, as long as the technology works consistently it will only improve the game.

  14. Which is something Jerry rightfully gets dunked on for. Not being willing to spend at the top of the market is extremely inefficient and has held the Sox back significantly during this window.

  18. The injuries to Eloy and Robert have basically ruined the rebuild. They have played in only 57.8% of eligible games since signing their extensions. What makes it even more devastating is how few games they have played together when each was at their best. This cannot be emphasized enough !!! Not even going to try to figure out Moncada at this point. I have compiled this from the 2020, 2021, and 2022 seasons. any games with 1 PA or defensive replacement games I didn't count. Basically trying to get at least 5 innings played together each game. I may have missed a game or 2 but this is very accurate compiled from batting game logs. 2020 was the year they played the most games together. It was only a 60 game season and they played 49 games together. That "year" was peak Eloy. Unfortunately it was Roberts rookie year. He flashed a great glove but still was raw at the plate, .738 OPS. Also unfortunately despite this being the short season it would be the most games they ever played together. Eloy at his best, Robert a rookie and .738 OPS 2021 Roberts break out hitting "year", .938 OPS. Unfortunately his year only lasted 68 games. The torn hip flexor kept him out over 2 months but surprisingly he hit even better when he came back. Unfortunately 2021was Eloy's worst year (55 games played .740 OPS) due to the torn pec he suffered in Spring Training. Only 29 games played together. 2022 More injuries for both. 84 games for Eloy and 98 games for Robert. Once again we saw near peak Eloy. Unfortunately Robert tried to play through injuries and dizzy spells and was barely better than he was his rookie year. This was the singles hitting Robert. Swinging at everything. BB% worst of his career but K% best of his career.ISO 1st time under.200 was .142. Together they only played 32 games and once again couldn't get both at their peaks at the same time. They have only played 110 games together of a possible 384 games in 3 year. Not once where each of them playing their best at the same time. Both at their peak performances together in 140 games would go a LONG way to making the Sox so much better. But injury free years and both at peak performance at the same time has never happened. One of these years maybe that can happen and if it does watch out baseball !

  19. Agree, I took at look at the Sox 2023 road schedule and there's some great options for a 3 day week or weekend get- away. I canceled my 20 game plan, with a goal not to give JR any of my money. I'd rather take in the sights of a new town and enjoy a game in Boston, NY, KC (BBQ), CA, Seattle....

  20. White Sox attendance issues started in the mid 1960's when social unrest created the myth that Comiskey Park was a "dangerous" place because of its location. Nothing the Sox could do about that but they have shot themselves in the foot over the years with decisions like leaving WGN-TV, creating SportsVision and saying "We are Chicago's American League team..." instead of taking on the Cubs full-on. From 1951-1967 the Sox outdrew the Cubs in 16 of those 17 years sometimes by a wide margin. Part of the issue is the Sox have not been able to consistently put a winning competitive streak like that together since then. Often they come out of the blue (like in 2005) and have an excellent season but they...can't...keep...it...going. I don't mean winning World Series after World series but how about making the playoffs say four times in six years or five times in seven? Sox have never done that. They'll have a nice stretch (1981-1983, 1990-1994, 2000-2006...) and then it's back to mediocrity. To say nothing even about all the controversies...Sox are moving...stadium controversy, JR and 1994 labor impasse, White Flag Trade, cancelling Sox fest, bizarre new ticket policy among others. That's no way to build a fan base in my opinion.

  21. The team won 81 games in 2022 with numerous injuries. If the team stays healthy I can see the team winning 90 plus games which should put them in the playoffs.

  23. Last season, the Boston Bruins and Celtics ended up with new coaches. At this point, both teams have the best records in their respective leagues. So, who knows what change can bring?

  24. Is it possible? Sure. I do think that a fair amount of bounceback is going to happen. This is going to be the players first real normal winter and spring training since 2019. I also think having an in touch staff and management group is going to do wonders all by itself. I don't know about them being a miracle team, but the impact of the last two years is there. How much of the real players and team is recoverable is the real question. Is health something they will never have, or is it something that can be done better with new eyes? That biggest question of all.
