Basically, dilution is much more likely to mean an infusion of cash into the business. It does get a bit tricky, depending on the Sox structure and agreements in place with limited partners (which I'm not going to pretend to understand or even speculate on), but assuming the double value was enough to dilute their percentage without diluting their value and they were on board with the perspective long-term growth from Ishbia's capital infusion, they could have agreed to allow Ishbia to create additional shares and increase cash flow and valuation for a stadium agreement and other capital needs. In this case, given that there is no additional share creation here, I find it much more likely this is merely a pathway to an outright sale. Unless there is some clause in the partnership agreements - which I highly doubt - Jerry can't force the limited partners to sell, meaning in my opinion, 1.8 was the price they agreed to sell out at; at least the majority of them. Edit: I like to think they're reading Soxtalk and saw our conversation on dilution so they circled around and updated their article.4 points

What's shocking is the amount of people who think this team is going to win over 50 games.3 points

The White Sox need up the middle players because they're expensive and they'll never pay for them. That shouldn't be a controversial opinion. I also don't think Taylor will be the BPA at 10.3 points

Why do you continue to lie using quotation marks to represent something I never said. You want a fight bozo?3 points

And really, I'd rather watch a blown save by Kimbrel than an immaculate inning by Clevenger.3 points

I didn't get about the 1st 2 innings until I found other means so as far as I'm concerned the Sox won 3-2.😃2 points

A lot of guys today showed promising velocity for their first outing of spring. Smith was obviously having issue with the release point on the fastball but he was 96-98 on a lot of fastballs. Nastirini and Booser both were up a few miles on their avg fastball velocity from last year. Mason Adams threw 8 pitches, all strikes and had two 3 pitch strikeouts. Every time I watch Colon play SS I immediately think he doesn't belong there.2 points

Unless you guys are talking to Jerry or Michael or the Partners at BDT & MSD, everything else will just be noise.2 points

Shane Smith, Rule 5 draft pick and #22 on Keith Law's list of the 25 MLB rookies most likely to have an impact in 2025 regular season2 points

Nastrini's velo seems up a tick. Also he's changed up his pitch mix/shapes some.2 points

I get people are saying that the team should be better than last year just by luck and variance and all that but on paper, no this team is not better going into this year than it was last year.2 points

At least this is much easier to stomach when you're expecting this level of pathetic.2 points

He had a ~1 WHIP last season in AA/AAA. It's possible that one spring inning is not reflective of his skillset.2 points

Just joking. I was never huge into LOTR and never read the books but I have watched most of the movies and the hilariously bad Amazon Prime show. His name is pretty close to this character… https://tolkiengateway.net/wiki/Maedhros2 points

idk man, why wouldn't he succeed in this thriving, winning culture that they have on the South Side?* *I acknowledge that this could be seen as hypocritical considering how much I lambasted Fletcher, Vargas and DeLoach, but c'est la vie.2 points

Also, I'm pretty sure the Dodgers have enough deferred payroll to outspend the Sox for the next 50 years.2 points

I legitimately believe the Angels are a worse run organization than the Sox are. Wins/losses aside.2 points

Shane Smith will be an interesting watch. He was on Law's list today for rookies that could make an impact in 2025. https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/6147293/2025/02/24/mlb-best-rookies-2025-yankees-cubs-rangers/2 points

Keith Law has 4 White Sox players in his 25 MLB rookies most likely to have an impact in 2025 regular season article. Burke, Teel, Shane Smith, and Meidroth. Will share the Burke/Meidroth portions.2 points

Tray, quit being a baby. That’s the general idea of this entire thread. Please, threaten me. It definitely makes your chronic bitching accusing and gatekeeping look better2 points

If they were issuing new shares of equity, then the existing owners’ shares would be diluted. But Ishbia is simply buying out owners of their existing shares, so ownership stakes shouldn’t change for people who don’t sell. As for the benefit of buying now, there is none since Jerry has absolute control of everything in the current limited partnership structure. If Ishbia’s goal it to take on 100% ownership one day, this obviously helps streamline the process, but ultimately he’d only be going through this effort if it’s part of a larger plan.2 points

Because I like baseball and I like looking forward to better times not wallowing in misery. I'd rather look at the 15 pitchers who pitched in the 2 games and say 11 of them didn't give up any runs. 3 HRs in 2 games and 2 of them came from guys not on the team last year. 6 of 8 pitchers didn't give up any runs against the Cubs 5 of them weren't on the team last year. 5 of the 7 pitchers didn't give up any runs against the Royals. All 5 of them weren't on the Sox last year. This is what coaches do. They accentuate the positive. Do you want your kids coached by guys who tell them they suck ? Kids become afraid to fail in sports because failure breeds negativity . They end up quitting rather than risk the hate that comes with failing in sports. They need to know you won't hate them like they see you hating on your favorite team yelling at your TV. If you understand that they are reflections of your actions then why wouldn't you want to be more kind around them so they aren't afraid to fail. It's like Lord of the fucking Flies in here. I get gallows humor but beating a dead horse because everyone's doing it is grim and horrifying. Kill the pig, bash it's head !2 points

If Clevinger isn't going to be an innings eater, there is even less than zero reason for him to be here. I won't argue with the idea that we need a starter who can get you 6 or 7 when the kids fail in sequence, but if they aren't going to use Clev that way, it's an even worse signing.2 points

If he’s going to work as a reliever, why didn’t they just sign a RP to the same deal?2 points

So an interesting point that was made in FutureSox’s write-up on this, but one I was thinking about as well. The original Athletic article pointed out possible share dilution for owners who don’t sell to Ishbia by Friday, but then scrapped that comment in an update to the article. However, is it possible that Jerry is using a threat of a future capital call to help finance a privately owned stadium to get the other minority owners to sell now at the $1.8B valuation?1 point

This also isn't ethnic cleaning or genocide. People have all kinds of different things they're looking for out of sports. Some are just looking for entertainment/diversion...others connect the team to the past or time spent with family and friends. I guarantee the mood will pick up significantly if there's legitimately going to be some type of clarity forthcoming and a success ion time table provided. Ambiguity/uncertainty/lack of clarity...diminished hope and frustration lead to dark humor reflecting cold inexoranble reality, simply because 41-121 is such a ridiculously bad performance for a non expansion team. But the reason sites like WSI are no more is because posters felt like they were constrained in expressing opinions and had to suppress negative thoughts for performative fandom just to please the mods. Now we've swung over to the other side of the pendulum where even the most optimistic posters have become "Jaded and cynical" in their 30s and 40s. And for lots of good reasons...hoping and trusting in the franchise has left them constantly disappointed and feeling lied to or misled. Those fans wouldn't be happy with even the consensus #1 farm system if it never led to more than a .500 record. In that sense, it's much easier to be a Doubting Thomas than a "true believer" because it's simply self-protection...we've simply seen it way too many times since the early 1980's.1 point

OMG really I didn't know that. I guess I need constant reminders of that until I come over to the dark boo hoo we're so bad why can't we have nice things side. Man up .1 point

Gee sportstalk radio out over its skis .That never happens does it ?Sportstalk radio is like verbal clickbait and you've been fanning the dead flames for 4 years . Every question you asked is just speculation. Fans are looking for answers not 4 year old questions no one has the answers to. Hang in there till Feb. 28th and maybe something good but not earth shattering will happen but likely to create more questions than answers .1 point

Carela throws about as hard as Thorpe...definitely a finesse guy. Taylor was the stand out. Jac Caglianone hit a massive bomb. Julks was highlight on offense but struggled with the sun/wall on defense like Colas the day before.1 point
