the Fire getting a ballpark village, water taxis, surrounding buildings going up... i mean, that is not happening without the Sox. i've been to Fire games and it's amazing support from a dedicated fanbase but that aint no anchor tenant4 points

This probably puts a little pressure on the Sox to step up with some serious cash before all the land is scooped up by developers. At a minimum if they just sit around waiting on a handout they might find themselves short on options.3 points

Maybe Robert should never play again. They always look so much better without him.2 points

There’s no truth to any of that. Post reputable sources.2 points

Why can’t we bring Elmo back up to play first and move Vargas back to third? Rojas absolutely sucks. And Capra needs to be cut…. Now!!!!!2 points

The Sox continue to do this, no matter who is in charge. This is as funny as when they brought back our injury-prone guys early and told them to run the bases gingerly instead of at full speed. EDIT: Haha, just now on the broadcast Brooke Fletcher said that Venable’s first step is to trust the player in the team’s injury assessment process. Meanwhile, posters in last night’s game thread immediately identified that Cannon’s velocity was down and something didn’t seem right.2 points

John has nothing to say and talks constantly. Bad, bad combo.2 points

The latest in a long line of these type situations. Venable said they took Cannon's word that he was "OK"2 points

Again, I haven't seen this actually stated anywhere. And I don't recall them ever spending money on development of the minor leagues. They've never had a consistent development plan for the system. This is why they've never consistently developed players.2 points

Considering Robert is ranked #18 out of 18 qualified CFs in mlb per fangraphs leads me to think the answer to your question is no. I don’t think many people here have fully acknowledged that Robert with his contract/remaining commitments is bordering on being a negative value, forget surplus.2 points
-
I don't think this is accurate. They have spent a great deal if money in areas where they never have in the past. Upgrading the equipment throughout thr minors, building and staffing a big biomechanics lab in Arizona, renovating the entire DR complex. All things needed to actually develop players. If the minors start to develop good players, thats when the payroll should go up to fill in the pieces. They could have signed 2-3 big free agents and this team would still be bad.2 points

Hmm maybe shouldn’t push a guy whose back is bothering him2 points

The entire blame is on Jerry. He continues to hire poor GM’s and doesn’t let them make their own decisions or spend on the right players. He’s a meddler and the Sox will be in a rebuild loop as long as he owns the team.2 points

Going to guess that video says Wrigley is number 1, and that person is just wrong. Anyone who says that, to me, is just trying too hard to be some purist. The place sucks.2 points

The Fire's owner is putting up $650M of private money toward this new stadium after recently spending $100M on a new practice facility for a franchise that is valued at $530M. Meanwhile Billionaire Jerry says he can only put $200M in private financing toward a new Sox stadium for a franchise that is valued somewhere around $2B. Pathetic. https://www.chicagotribune.com/2025/06/03/chicago-fire-new-soccer-stadium/2 points

Yeah I'm cautiously optimistic that this is actually GOOD news for us. It's like filling the first home or shop in a new development - once one person bites, it makes the whole thing viable and others get on board. This will have the city/state fund the infrastructure that Jerry needs and gives the ownership team confidence that the whole region is going to be developed. They aren't left holding the bag hoping to fill the whole thing.2 points

The developer has said in the past there's room for both stadiums at the 78. https://www.nbcchicago.com/news/local/possible-future-home-of-white-sox-could-have-a-second-stadium-developer-says/3578694/2 points

He was paying CF in Charlotte. Make no sense to play 1st base. Soon they will have guys in the pen play 1st base.1 point

Working for Jerry is like being John Cena. You just need Hustle, Loyalty, and Respect and you have a job for life.1 point

Agreed. If anything, this is great news for anyone who wants a new Sox stadium at the 78. With the Fire kick-starting infrastructure work and the development of an entertainment district, this should make it more likely for the Sox to build on the site. The hold up for the Sox is Reinsdorf's insistence on public funding for the stadium itself, but as we've discussed in other threads, the huge wild card here is the Ishbia brothers.1 point

How many World Series have the Yankees Mets and Dodgers won since 2000? The same number as the Marlins White Sox and Royals. Three to three. The Giants Astros Red Sox and Cards have done better.1 point

IMO it's definitely good news in regards to having two "anchor tenants" at the site, and the ask for infrastructure $ should be more palatable if/when the Sox do confirm now that the Fire are locked in, especially if they privately finance the stadium themselves (Sox).1 point

Salary cap wouldn’t matter, some teams would work around that like a deferred Ohtani deal and others simply will never spend to the cap. it’s the owners want. You can’t force them to do the right thing. They threw revenue sharing at teams as a way to level the playing field for the smaller teams and the owners just took that money. Look at Pittsburgh now, already talking about dealing Skenes because their owner won’t spend, yet that dude cashes a revenue sharing check every fucking year1 point

'May not be credible' is far too kind. Mets have no need for Sosa, and I'm not sure Robert is even an upgrade over Tyrone Taylor in CF right now. And the idea that they wouldn't trade for Robert if they couldn't get Sosa as well is laughable.1 point

I just see anything positive happening as long as the Sox have the same owner. These handful of prospects just aren't going to help that much since it is only a handful. They will never supplement then with decent free agents. Sure they'll get FA that will be busts. JR is a curse to this organization and you really can't get past that. If there was a baseball hell this would be it. Unfortunately there are a few more teams not much different. They are a curse to baseball. Players and potential execs have this figured out.1 point

And now Schriffen just said that Cannon overthought things trying so hard to focus on his game plan. 🤣1 point

Schriffen: “Always good to see Robert lay off that breaking ball low and out of the zone…” Robert K’s on the very next pitch low and far away. Schriffen: ****crickets****1 point

I think the White Sox of 2025 look completely different if AJ Hinch is hired in 2021.1 point

Who is crying over it by saying we'd like to see him back up? You are imagining a reaction that doesn't exist. The most "extreme" reaction in this thread, other than your own, even said he's like just a guy, something you agree with.1 point
-
Do you think the Sox have him in their plans? You seem to be talking out of both sides there lol.1 point

One of the podcasts had an interesting take on Vaughn. Look at the advanced batting metrics now with bat in the zone and such, they said that he would not have been in the first round today.1 point

I will hold my hand wringing until both Jac and Smith have played in the Majors. The value of what Smith could "Potentially" be is through the roof. Can he get there, let's see. Jac has won the 1st step of getting to the Majors before Hagen. Lot to Be Determined still.....1 point

I dont know why the reaction to wanting Elko back is this extreme. I don't see anyone actually saying he's the savior . I want him up since he's an actual 1B who plays 1B. He can also hit for some desperately needed power. I don't believe 31 sporadic at bats were much of a showcase for anyone. If nothing ever comes of him, so be it, but it would at least provide value by pushing Vargas back to 3B.1 point

I would eat crow on the entire Getz tenure if it purged Jay Cuda and his shitty paint graphics from the internet.1 point
