Not counting this year, Devers has $254M left on his contract. JR would never, never approve such a deal. Why is this so hard for you to comprehend?6 points

Civale already gave the Sox more than Vaughn has this year.4 points

You're not wrong. Civale is .1 WAR and Andrew Vaughn was -1.6.3 points

I swear to god WBWSF believes that Ishbia has Scrooge McDucks money vault and just opened it up for Getz. Like what in the entire world is happening here how did the expectations get there wtf3 points

As long as we're going down stupid rabbit holes, Devers would only cost the Sox 18,142,857 Sydney Sweeney soap bars3 points

What happened 50 years ago does not matter now. The game has changed and none of Jerry’s old tricks to get suckers in the door to watch shitty teams are gonna fill that place up3 points

Dude, this is fucking pipe dream bullshit. The white Sox were not acquiring a 300 million dollar contract and a disgruntled player. The White Sox also do not have the players that are needed to complete this deal(that they are WILLING TO TRADE). You know who else would make this team better at hitting? Ohtani. Why didn’t they just acquire them when he was a free agent? I think I will comment about this in every subsequent thread about the White Sox lack of offense without thinking about any outside context that might make it impossible. Hmm3 points

Vargas is far more valuable at 3B if he can stick. Keep him there.3 points

I've written JR a couple of times asking to be interviewed for the GM job. He has never responded to me on the subject. This team would have never been this bad the last few seasons if I was the GM. Of course JR would have fired me simply because I would have never gone along with his program of losing games with a low payroll. Bill Veeck in one of his books said, the future is now. 5 year plans usually lead to more 5 year plans. I believe that losing year after year is crazy.2 points

You're not reading the responses here, are you? Everyone is generally correct. No 50 win team is paying $300 million to anyone (Especially a team that has never given out a $100 million contract). This team is not good and if you put stock in their prospects why give them up for a guy who would get you from 50 to 53 wins?2 points

Even if Jerry/Ishiba would approve it, it's still not a smart deal. While the package the Giants sent over to Boston certainly wasn't impressive, it would still have cost the Sox assets, but much more importantly, Devers will be 29 when the season is over. With or without Devers, the White Sox aren't close to competing in the next 2-3 seasons. Paying a 33,34,35,36 year old Devers 23 million + each season is not something I'd want my favorite team signing up for.2 points

This is from the Sun-Times morning newsletter: Ballpark Mass: Pope Leo XIV brought thousands together at Rate Field on Saturday for a Mass and to celebrate his papacy, marking a historic moment for the local Catholic community and a point of pride for the city. The event, hosted by the Archdiocese of Chicago, drew an estimated 30,000 people and included a livestreamed address from the pope. It was the pontiff’s first direct address to an American audience since being elected last month.2 points

I'm trying to figure out why Milwaukee traded Civale for Vaughn and made the money even. For Getz, this was a no brainer. You might not get much for Civale, but it will be more than he could have gotten for Vaughn, and with the money sent, he should be able to get more than the Brew Crew could have gotten had they traded him for a prospect or two.2 points

24yo, 14th rounder, Shane Murphy now at 49ip in Birmingham with a ERA under 2 and WHIP of 0.78. 42k to 5w.2 points

This is literally the worst possible defensive combination the Sox could put together on the infield.1 point

Logically speaking, only one team would be (theoretically) interested in Sox cast-offs as an “improvement.”1 point

Yes, no rebuilding team can have an outfielder on their roster in their mid 20’s that can put up a positive WAR because… rebuilding… the catch-all excuse for anything and everything.1 point

Its almost like they are rebuilding so they aren't signing any long term players.1 point

I really miss that negative WAR Brooks provides. Such a blessing in the outfield.1 point

You think they’re trying to justify the $1 million combined that Capra and Noda are making?1 point

If only WBWSF were the GM with Greg as assistant GM....our troubles as a franchise would magically be over. Just sign good ballplayers.....1 point

Return to being an everyday 1B? There are maybe two months out his entire career he performed like an average regular at 1B. The rest of the time he was replacement level or below.1 point

Unless I missed it, it doesn't say there would be any public funding for a MLB ballpark. The only city/state that I have heard is willing to pay for a new MLB stadium is Salt Lake City/State of Utah. But Salt Lake City's metro area is ranked 46th in the US. Would Ishbia want to move the Sox there? I doubt it.1 point
-
Once again the OFFICIAL release said that Ishbia would be investing in the team next year financially. How much clearer can that be to you? Is it going to acquire two "superstars"? Not on your life. But his money will be used to do other things. You are looking at probably a 95+ loss season in 2026 and a labor impasse wiping out at least a portion, possible a very good portion of the 2027 season. We'll see how things look in 2028.1 point

I love breaking rumors that are essentially team propaganda. Look, maybe Vaughn can turn it around, but returning to being a starting 1B in a month? That's a bit rich for my blood.1 point

It's different clowns this year, which yea, wtf man. Just give it a rest. Even horrific baseball teams win a series once and awhile, sometimes even two in a row.1 point

It also doesn't hurt to have a top production farm system, a top flight international systems AND a top payroll.1 point

Looks no better than Vaughn or Elko, when Sosa comes back Vargas should play 1B and Sosa 3B.1 point

Anyone who thinks Tony LaRussa brought anything positive to this organization this time around is truly derranged.1 point

I don't think Elko will be the guy, but he has definitely earned the rest of the season at 1B at the MLB level. Vargas' value ideally would be greater at 3B, so I would love for him to stick there. Think it will depend on Montgomery and how he develops at SS at the MLB level. For me, I want Vargas at 3B, Montgomery at SS and Meidroth at 2B. Figure out 1B and the OF when the time comes1 point

All I know is Quero and Teel both need to be in the lineup every day, at C and DH. When you have a 4-man bench, I don't think its completely necessary to carry a third catcher. I'll risk a guy getting hurt and losing the DH spot. You have 4 guys on the bench that can pinch hit throughout the game.1 point

Getz has been a GM for like a year and a half. In Kenny Williams' first year or two, he traded for the wrong player because he had a similar name to the guy they wanted. What do you think everyone's reaction here would be if that happened today? I always liked Kenny Williams but how are you comparing a guy who held the job for like 15 years to a guy who has had about 20 months?1 point
