I think having the the worst team in the history of the sport has a lot to do with the whining.6 points

Literally no other team I watch does this bullshit. You can't fucking treat positions as interchangeable at the MLB level IN SEASON. You move a guy you have him train there all offseason and spring. You don't just tell Sosa hey you're a part time 1B now, weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee. dumb fucking manager and GM.3 points

Why is Capra getting consistent starts? Why is he on the roster? You would think sending down Baldwin would be for him to get consistent at bats but he can easily get that on the main roster with how these line-ups are put together.3 points

It was weird going to bat so hard for Getz. I have no logical reason he should be going to bat for the Red Sox front office but here we are3 points

Very disheartening. But a lot of this is Getz own choices with the roster. Capra, Rojas, Slater, Taylor, Noda should be nowhere near this team. There is not a legitimate reason to have a single mediocre or worse veteran on this team, much less 6 of them (let’s not forget Benintendi, but he’s sort of forced). They contribute nothing. The Sox would get more benefit from any and all of Jelks, Fletcher, DeLoach, Lee, Elko, Baldwin and others from Charlotte playing instead of those veteran clowns. If one of the Charlotte crew finally puts it all together, it’s a huge win for the Sox. He's got some big trades he needs to make too. And it's not just Getz. Shirley too. A lot of bluster from the Sox drafts, but so far it's Crochet 5 years ago (and he was really for the bullpen).2 points

All the Getz dicksuckers can lick his nuts as we see if we can challenge for 45 wins again. f*** off. We're now on pace for 46-100 Wow, amazing improvement! We can win those last 16 games to really shove it up the doubters' asses! Eat a dick White Sox.2 points

Another HR for Brooks. Man, Capra and Rojas had better be playing some pretty good defense.2 points

I can't stand to see them beat themselves. They have to execute fundamental baseball at this level. And you guys are right - the music chairs with positions is detrimental. Vargas should be playing first. Put Sosa at third.2 points

Those renderings look fantastic. It could have and should have been us. Thanks Jerry. Just f*** off already and let us have nice things...2 points

Of course Baldwin homered on the first pitch he saw tonight in Charlotte2 points

why give away atbats to Capra and Rojas, just play the kid, jfc... we are going to lose 110 anyway what does it matter!2 points

Trying to multi quote here but this site with ads has become horrendous. So Padres 1st, 3rd, and 4th round pick from last year? I doubt we will get close to this. Do the Padres have a comp pick that can be moved?2 points

Thanks. Good article. Really gives you a good look into revamping the development process. Very proactive instead of reactive.2 points

I think it's much easier for a fan base to get upset with a player who is complaining to the media about a position switch...when they aren't performing. While I don't follow the Red Sox on a daily basis, from the outside looking in, it seems as though Devers was upset the franchise told him one thing and did another. I don't care how much it happens in other walks of life, it sucks when you're a baseball player or a plumber. The biggest thing, for me, is that while Devers may have not preferred to play DH and made that known...he started every game for the Red Sox this season, and is in the middle of having one of his best seasons. He may not have been thrilled with the position the team put him in, but he's gone to work everyday and performed. As a fan, that's what I want out of my franchise player.2 points

Vinny Capra has a .290, not batting average, not on base percentage, not slugging percentage, but OPS. Hal of this roster is a complete mess and looks like a deer in the headlights at the plate. I mean it isn't like ARod is blocking Brooks Baldwin from playing time here.2 points
-
If they need development, let them develop. But pick a venue. Don't call them up for a couple of games only to send them back. No one is going to get better that way.2 points
-
Probably decided that they would rather have a too full stadium when times are good than an obviously half full one when they aren’t so good.2 points

Jim Bowden is outrageously bad at his job. No one is giving up real value for Robert. Certainly not a top 5 system prospect that was a first round pick last year that has pitched pretty well so far this year plus two more prospects.1 point

If you don't want to be lied to at work, and you want to be treated with respect and honesty, then you should want that for all workers. Even those who make more money than you. Your envy and jealousy doesn't mean he should deal with BS at work that you don't want to deal with In fact, while trickle down economics is pure BS, workers rights have trickled down throughout history. You have the mindset that if it's miserable for me then it should be for you too. Frank also wasn't told he would be the 1st baseman by the GM and the coach, only for the Sox to sign a first basemen in free agency. He also wasn't then told he'd ONLY have to move to DH and this would be his new position for good, only for them to ask him to switch again two months later. You do that to players fighting to stay in the big leagues, not to the anchors of your lineup.1 point

Ben Zobrist was a utility guy who's value was tied to his versatility. Bryant wanted to play everywhere. It's not a gotcha question, it's an observation. Devers is fourth in baseball for the highest % of team runs scored in baseball. He's accounted for 87 of Boston's 355 runs scored (25%). That's called carrying an offense. Bregman is out for 2 months. Navarez and Duran have accounted for 117 runs between them. No one ever called him a cancer or anything negative before the Red Sox bashed him this year and put him in an impossible situation. Just last week you were talking about how you really only follow the White Sox. Now you're an expert on Devers clubhouse impact over the last 8 years. Fascinating stuff. He was such a cancer that they gave him 300+ million 18 months ago.1 point

This. Look, I don't care if you make $7.25 an hour, or $40 million a year, having your employer lie to you and then publicly s%*# on you isn't cool.1 point

Elko a AAAA player who was going to apparently sell tickets with his call up? Hmmm....1 point
-
Sure. A guy like Elko getting paid close to $4000 a day for a week really isn't jerking him around. Baldwin's working on his OF defense and his hitting at AAA. Promoting a player for a few days (again, at close to $4000 a day), isn't mistreating him.1 point
-
I just don't think Baldwin has much to prove in AAA the way he was swinging it. Let him play every day here and figure it out. Edit: although, I think his time will come when they move an OF (Robert, Tauchman).1 point

Being the dh isn't "switching positions", it simply isn't a position. If he didn't want to play first base or dh, he should've played better defense at third base. Bregman is also hitting better this season. It was inevitable he'd move to first base and he already got paid so there isn't a financial incentive for him to play a more challenging position. If it's about racking up stats, you rack up more WAR playing 1b than dh. This Devers saga is weird. The guy being paid hundreds of millions of dollars to play a game, it's not like it's an unreasonable request to...stand near a base and sometimes catch the ball as its thrown to you. Diva behavior. I think it's funny when things don't work out for the Red Sox though. Remember when they had Mookie Betts?1 point

Yes, and all of that's on the Red Sox front office. Then Casas was injured, and Devers should have been more amenable to helping out, instead of pouting.1 point

His contract is a steal compared to last he way contracts are now going, even if he only DH’s (I think he moves to 1B next season).1 point

People scream about "development" when a player boots a grounder or misplays a pop-up. Then when the Sox find a way to keep a guy in AAA for a few months to work on his game, we all become victims of the Sox not putting this guy in the bigs. Sports Talk and Sox Twitter have turned us all into incorrigible whiners.1 point

You do realize that he's in estate planning phase of his life now right ? That means making sure his kids sell the Sox and keep the Bulls and continue investing in the 1901 Project with the Blackhawks. Why do you talk about him as if this was 25-30 years ago ? There is nothing in Reinsdorf's future plans that include him or his kids investing more than the bare minimum in the Sox.1 point

So you are comparing the current version of Civale to back when the Indians traded him to the Rays and he was 28 years old, had great numbers as a starter in the first half of 2023 (2.7 bWAR, 2.34 ERA), earning just $2.6 million that season, with another two years of team control? Uhhh no. Your comparison isn’t even close. I think you are bogarting the bong too much to even share it with @champagne030.1 point

Pass the bong this way. NOBODY is giving up a top 100 prospect for Civale.1 point

Imagine being told in 2021 that in 4 years, every player from the team will be gone but TLR will still be with the organization. That’s just fucking cruel.1 point

Fair. But they were massive successes, until they weren’t. I’m not declaring them victories or anything, I’m just not interested in waiting 5 years down the road to be invested in them when they look good now. It’s just more fun for me that way and lord knows we can all use a little more fun as Sox fans.1 point
