  1. I think the best thing the kid could do now since he clearly is being outed, is come out and admit it exactly what was said “hey, this is what I said. (Insert quote) Knowing now the information about him mom, I never would have said anything like that and regret saying it with all of my heart and apologize to Ketel Marte, the dbacks, and the white Sox” to me, if he literally said nothing worse than a yo mama joke, the above would get him off a lot of peoples bad side and he could move on.

  3. Oh, come on man. I'm not going to go crawling through your posting history, but I remember PLENTY of cases where you were shitting on Getz and talking about how people want to blame anyone but him. You've also been one of the most consistent people doing this on any post with any level of positivity about things he's been doing, to the point where you've had major clashes with a number of posters here and have even earned yourself post stalkers. Its this continual misrepresentation of people who are trying to find positives in this awful period of Sox baseball that leads to most of the frustration and fighting that's been around here since last season. I'm sure you're a good dude and you've been a huge part in what has been the best place to discuss the Sox on the internet, but you have to understand how frustrating this is for people who have a different opinion than you.

  6. This is bullshit! Getz needs to be s%*# on. He was a huge part of the problem. Nobody is saying it was only him and JR that created this mess. They ALL were involved. The problem is people saying Getz had NO involvement and was in no way culpable and needs to be given a lot more rope to fix something that wasn't his doing.

  7. I don't think anyone here would rather have Getz as GM than literally anyone else qualified. He should have been purged. But he wasn't, so the hope people have is that he knows or can figure out what he's doing.

  8. This is complete misrepresentation of people's opinions. No one thinks it was just Getz and JR.

  9. I've worked on a number of ML and data science initiatives within organizations from tens of millions of dollars in revenue, up to multiple billions. I've also worked with data scientists and machine learning engineers who were self-taught, all the way up to PHDs. I have seen these initiatives be very successful and provide valuable data, and I have also seen them fail, and/or provide negative value. I ran one personally that had initial success with an enterprise customer, but ultimately failed due to lack of internal adoption, data siloing, data cleanliness, and overall budgetary restrictions. I'm a friendly advisor on a startup that is seeking to solve this exact problem for small to mid-sized organizations, particularly ones that are likely to undergo PE acquisition. I am not a data scientist or ML engineer by trade, but I've learned enough to know when someone is being honest, helpful and providing interesting talking points. I think you do that a lot of the time and I do enjoy reading your posts. You're pretty close to calling everyone here stupid when they don't agree with you or have questions, though. WestEddy and CWS are definitely not stupid - they're thoughtful, intelligent posters who bring much needed alternative opinions to a board that is becoming increasingly single-minded and difficult to read (which I do get - not much to be excited about when the MLB team is the WORST TEAM OF ALL TIME). I'd also say the vast majority of posters here aren't stupid, and could certainly understand how you're arriving at your conclusions if you present them well and explain where your findings and evidence come from. If you don't want to - fine. No one can force you, certainly, and you don't owe anyone anything, but don't be surprised or offended when people ask questions or argue. It's the internet - everyone is full of s%*# until proven otherwise. What set off my BS alarm in your case was partially due to the above attitude, as in my experience, people who pull the "you can't understand what I'm doing" card when pushed even slightly are, more often than not, a BS artist. Also, your "25 year pitching success" point just seems like a naive analysis. The reason I brought up hitting success over the same period is because, by WAR and by number of cases of improved/positive contribution, the Sox have been as good or better at hitting development over that 25 year period as they have pitching. We know they've been atrocious at hitting development during the latter KW and for all of Hahn years, though, so that can't be true, which indicates that something definitively got worse during their tenures and it seems unlikely it would apply only to hitting. It also indicates that your analysis could be heavily front-loaded, since A) you have the full career trajectories of these players to consider over the more limited careers of everyone drafted from 2013 on, and B) for a basic, illustrative example, a team could develop 100 WAR of value in the first 10 years, and 0 WAR in the next 10, but still look "good" on average. This "definitively worse" scouting, drafting and player development also highlights some incredibly difficult variables to account for, and given your explanations in this thread, I don't know how (or even if you can) account for them. JR is really the only consistent piece over this 25 year period. The Sox have had multiple GMs, scouting directors, international/US scouts, player development personnel, managers, minor league teams, etc etc. While some of the general organizational philosophies probably haven't changed, each change I mentioned brings a distinct philosophy and approach - probably more than a lot of organizations, because we've all heard how the Sox lacked a unified message and programs for a long time. The philosophies of hitting and pitching have changed a lot - average velocity has risen every single decade, and every single year since 2007. "Tunneling" and "pitch shape" are things we NEVER used to hear about, and now they're all over. Pitching used to be about the number of effective innings, and now it's about strikeouts, max effort, and a 5 inning starter plus a bullpen of guys throwing in the high 90s+. Offensive approaches have changed, too, from "take steroids and mash", to uppercut swings that combat pitchers who live low in the zone, to extremely detailed stats like who keeps the barrel through the hitting zone the longest. Hitters can see a pitchers full arsenal in the box before they even face him. Maybe you've figured out how to account for all of the difficulty here, but I have never met or worked with anyone who could - even the PHD level people were applying off the shelf algorithms most of the time, which would only work for simple use cases at best. I think we also vastly overrate the Sox pitching achievements. Seems like every year for the last decade+ we're all posting about how good the pitching is, then we actually look at where the team ranks in MLB and it's mediocre at best. Also, I genuinely feel for you being stuck in a career you don't enjoy. I've been there, too, as I'm sure many of the people here have. Hopefully you figure out a way out, or at least a way to extract some enjoyment out of what you do. Or make enough really soon to go retire somewhere nice.

  13. Two very different items, one heartbreak, one just flat out bizarre: June 27, 1958 - He came so close to perfection. Sox left hander Billy Pierce fired four one-hitters in his brilliant career, but he never came closer than on this night to baseball immortality. With two out in the ninth inning, Pierce lost a perfect game as the Senators Ed Fitz Gerald, a pinch hitter, doubled down the first base line on the first pitch thrown. The hit was fair by a foot off a low outside breaking ball just past Ray Boone. The crowd at Comiskey Park stared in disbelief. The Sox won 3-0 but Pierce never came closer to pitching the ultimate masterpiece. On the night the Senators only hit six balls out of the infield. Pierce struck out nine and only went to a three-ball count on two hitters. The game took 1:46 to play and was Billy’s third straight shutout. He was looking to become the first left-handed pitcher to throw a perfect game in the modern era. Another historical oddity… Fitz Gerald’s grandfather was an important businessman in Milwaukee, including the shipping industry. Years later a ship would be named after him. The name of the ship? The Edmund Fitz Gerald. (Cue the song from Gordon Lightfoot!) June 27, 1967 - It was one of the most bizarre individual plays in White Sox history. The Sox were at Baltimore and in the last of the fourth inning of a scoreless game the O’s Frank Robinson slid hard into second baseman Al Weis trying to break up a potential double play on a ball hit by Brooks Robinson. Robinson’s head slammed into Weis’s knee briefly knocking him out. The next day he woke up with double vision and missed a month. Weis meanwhile had his knee torn up and his season ended because of the contact. While both players were lying on the ground Sox right fielder Ken Berry noticed that time had never been called and Frank wasn’t on the base! He ran in, picked up the baseball and tagged him with it. Second base umpire Nestor Chylak called Robinson out. Officially it went into the books as a force out; third to second to first to right field. The Sox behind Joe Horlen would win the game 5-0.

  17. The day he goes, unless another Reinsdorf takes over, my outlook will dramatically change. If it's Ishbia, I'll come in with a hopeful view, because there isn't much historical evidence (at this point at least, I know with the way the possible ownership change is structured, we may find out about his potential spending habits before he's officially owner) and I just don't see how things can get worse under him, from where they are today. For a lot of us, Jerry Reinsdorf is the only owner we've experienced as White Sox fans. When he's gone, everything changes. Doesn't mean everything is going to get better, but the only way this franchise truly changes is by cutting off the head of the snake.

  18. After reading comments the last two years, I think most here are basically on the same page, the difference comes down one thing: Faith The results speak for themselves. Because Jerry made Getz the choice to run things, a “clean slate” was never possible, because of his involvement with the previous regime. That shouldn’t have come as a surprise to Getz either. Additionally, while everyone involved with this team the last two decades should wear their failures, Jerry is the boss. Jerry is the one who kept Hahn and KW 10 years too long, Jerry is the one who refuses to sign top tier players, Jerry is the one who refuses to adapt to baseball in 2025, Jerry is the one who decided Getz was the most qualified the run baseball ops. It’s been bad decision after bad decision. So when it comes to the topic of the performance of Chris Getz as President of Baseball Ops, it boils down to what level of faith you have in the decision making of Jerry Reinsdorf. I’ve made my feelings known on the subject many times, but my faith in Jerry on a scale of 1-100 is about -8 right now. Doesn’t mean Getz is absolutely going to fail, but my level of skepticism is extremely high based on Jerry thinking he was qualified to do the job. From a baseball perspective, Jerry Reinsdorf is objectively an awful decision maker.

  19. The fabled Flo Rida concert...they've been hyping it for months and it's finally upon us. if I never have to hear Stoney say, ironically, for the 30th time, "oh yeah, his music is my favorite, it's just swell" I can die happy. or at least be annoyed about one less thing. I always liked that one "get low" and that his name is florida and he's from florida but it's also like he's just going with the flow. wordplay, innit.

  26. I think people who look at last year as an inevitable total crash out due to Hahn, KW and JR's mismanagement of the franchise over the last decade+ are the ones who see positives. Anyone who thinks Getz and JR only are main culprits does not. That's become the big divide here.

  27. On one hand, this witch hunt is definitely excessive, especially given what the guy actually said. I also saw a bunch of posts online giving his identity and photo away, telling the internet to "do your worst". That's just not acceptable. On the other hand, if this kid is a mouthy brat, this will be a good lesson with lower impact consequences than what could happen if he says the wrong thing to the wrong person.

  28. I mean, even a 60-102 season is still terrible. I agree though, Robert becoming worthless and all the pitching injuries really suck but at least there are some bright spots on this years team as opposed to last year when there was absolutely nothing. It will be interesting to see what they do, if anything, this offseason based on the potential loss of 2027.

  30. Honestly, record-wise the Sox are where most of us thought they'd be - slightly better than last year. There have been a few surprises, a few good, a few bad. Sosa has been steadily improving. Vargas is looking like a cornerstone of this team for the future. Meidroth, Teel, Quero, Smith, and even Burke have looked good in their first year. Tauchman (when healthy) and Slater have been decent veteran pick-ups. And for the less than good - The bullpen has been spotty at best. Robert is lost at the plate. Guys like Noda and Capra have jobs. Perez is hurt after looking like another decent veteran signing. Post trade deadline, the Sox are likely not going to have a higher win percentage, but they should be a more interesting team to monitor (notice I didn't say "watch").

  31. I think it has to do with the back personally. Most of the scouts loved him until he started having issues, and it seems to have really curtailed his performance. When his back was acting up this spring, the Sox gave the "its no big deal" response. I'm sorry, 22 or 23 years old with recurring back problems is a huge issue.

  32. Results wise no doubt it’s been brutal. But unfortunately with where Hahn left things and Jerry bottoming-out the payroll, it was always going to be a very ugly season. That being said, our current Pythagorean would imply a 60 win pace which is 15 games better than last year’s expected wins based on run differential. What’s fascinating is the positional group is 29th overall at fWAR at 0.2, which is insanely fucking bad but still a big improvement over last year. Regardless, that amount is weighted down substantially by guys who are no longer on team or guys who are easily replaceable. Vaughn, Amaya, Palacious, Rojas, Noda, & Capra have combined for -4 wins in just a half a season. Meanwhile, Robert & Benintendi have combined for just 0.1 fWAR despite +$31M in salary. My point here is still there is a ton of low hanging fruit that can be solved for with relative ease with a bit more time (once real minor leaguers arrive) and some Ishbia money being spent. IMO, Robert imploding and the TJS surgeries are the most frustrating parts of the first half at the major league level. The former sets us back in terms of acquiring talented prospects and the latter wastes a golden opportunity for less heralded guys to establish themselves and give us additional trade assets to help fill out the holes in the lineup.

  33. That actually matches perfectly with any optimism I have for the future. Plans are in place for our current inept owner to sell this team to a deep-pocketed local billionaire and we pray that he'll totally turn this franchise around. Sounds like as good of a rebuild strategy as any of the Sox recent failed attempts.

  34. Its been a terrible first half man, they are 26-55 and pacing out for 50 wins. That's terrible. You made good points about young bats forming and some pitching looking like long term keepers, I can't argue with that.

  35. Colson raised his OPS from .622 to .673 last night. Pretty crazy that can happen in one game. 3-4 with two HR and a BB.
    2 points
  36. Honestly, outside of Robert imploding, it hasn’t been a terrible 1H. We are starting to see a collection of young bats form and Smith & Burke (who has very good over the past month) look like long-term rotation options. And some of the dumpster dive vets have performed fairly well, which is a step up from the Hahn days. Still a ways off and I wish we had some trade chips this deadline that could actually move the needle, but at least not all the kids flopped and set us back even further.

  39. They had a dominating run through the regular season and post season. They had a great/reliable rotation and a lineup that had all the pieces you need to be successful back then (good lead off man, 2 hitter that could move guys over at will, RBI guys, and clutch hitters like Crede in the bottom half. They had a manager that everyone loved playing for. It wasn’t luck. It was a once in a lifetime “team” that you rarely see.

The big thing here is to be careful about what you say to people, I know this resulted in him being thrown out and banned but man mouthing off to the wrong person about something you don't even know how impactful it is to them, recipe for disaster. I always get on my wife when she rages in the car at another driver on the road for doing something stupid, you never know who is going to lose it and have a gun or follow you somewhere.

  46. Gonna disagree here. The Sox, for some reason, keep loading up on old guys on their last legs - although this is finally improving. The Bulls are in NBA hell cause their players (outside of Patrick) are try hards. For me it gives them fun-bad qualities. I can turn on games not automatically assuming a loss. That being said, please launch AK into the sun so the team can return to the playoffs proper.
