You're so silly. of course the Red Sox were going to "win the trade" in year one.. we received a bunch of prospects. None of which may I add, took a step back.6 points
-
If they're talented enough, the Sox will trade them at some point for more prospects and then they can join the long list of ex-players who say they were thankful to get out of that train wreck of an organization.4 points

Yea man I’m sure the entirety of baseball has it wrong on value of pitchers vs position players3 points

The new owners are going to have their work cut out for them to win over some younger fans who have grown up uninterested in the shoddy product the South Siders have put on the field. JR's plan to try to win on the cheap and with smoke and mirrors has been a failure. If the Cubs return to the World Series this year, the challenge to win over younger fans will be even greater. I don't think they can just rely on tribalism ("my mom/dad was a Sox fan!") to make the Sox relevant going forward.3 points

But both Portland and Salt Lake City have both said they (or rather those states) would pay $800M and 900M in public money, respectively, for a MLB ballpark. I'm not saying this is the most likely scenario, but why wouldn't MLB just let the Sox move to Nashville and then award the 2 expansion teams to Portland and SLC? The league gets their expansion fees and 2 nice taxpayer-funded stadiums. Again, I'm not saying a Sox move is imminent. But I could see it playing out this way.2 points

If it is true that Ishbia is threatening the move, then they’re as good as gone. Nashville was first floated in 2023, before he was part of the equation, so he was either behind the scenes much earlier, or he’s jumping on the threat bandwagon. I find it hilarious and infuriating at the same time when fans who live a thousand miles outside of Chicago say “good riddance, I hope they move.”2 points

I am going to look on the bright side....I was worried the Sox were gonna trade Schultz and Smith after they showed MLB what they can do....but now it looks like they will be bad enough that the Sox will keep them. Progress, not perfection.2 points

Those elite starting pitchers are incredibly valuable in the post season.2 points

Heard a story on MLB Network Radio in early May that Turner told PCA that his swing might be working now, but the dead pull stuff needs to change because he'll get abused. PCA told him to go f*** himself. Hmmm.....2 points

Yep, I don’t think you pull him when they did if they don’t plan on him going tomorrow.2 points

I always find this ironic from people who moved 1000 miles away for better opportunity.2 points

You bring up good points about Nashville, Lip. But with all do respect, I have found that it is out of state Sox fans who find it much easier to say it wouldn't bother them one bit if the Sox left town.2 points

Anything is possible but as pointed out it makes little sense financially or from a business perspective. Also MLB, again, wants the expansion money as opposed to relocating a team.2 points

So this businessman who lives in Chicagoland is going to purchase an MLB team at a value that would fit a major market team...and instantly devalue it by moving to a smaller market? Jerry isn't selling the club at a small market price so Ishbia will be over-paying for the club...won't believe these rumors until it happens (which I doubt is even under legitimate consideration).2 points

The CHSN app was disappointing. Regularly failed to recognize my subscription. Poorly designed and run.2 points

That is fair, breaking it down into a first half and second half. I gave Getz a higher grade because he was stuck with Pedro Girfol in 2024 and the remnants of a cancer clubhouse/organization that still lingered. Nobody has brought up that the Sox were about as low as you could get with ex-players, the media, and fans. In 2023 Kenyan Middleton got traded mid-season to the Yankees and he opened up how bad things were with the Sox. You guys know all this, but things were so bad it wasn't an easy fix. I give credit to Getz for bringing in Venable, who the players have taken to. All of that "clubhouse" cancer is in the rear-view mirror, there is a new vibe with the youth movement, and they are responding. If you want to point out things you don't like about Veneable's managing, that is fair also.2 points

I mean the guy just torched the Yankees and threw 120 pitches and the Sox were apparently stupid for even trying him as a starter. Amusingly, it's a similar cast of voices in the 10 concurrent threads whining about the Sox. I was looking at old threads about Crochet in light of his awesome postseason start and the comments in them were genuinely baffling...although not necessarily surprising. People just like to whine.2 points

Does this improve going forward as a generation of kids grow up with the North side team in the playoffs five times in the last ten full seasons while the Sox have one forgettable postseason appearance in the last ten completely seasons and have lost 100 games more often than they have been above .500? Since 2015 what kid in his right mind would watch this team when they can watch the other team? I don’t think they ever win these people back.2 points

It isn't often on Soxtalk that a thread goes exactly how you would expect it to. Thanks.2 points

Not that Teel and Braden were a bad return, but no one should be off limits for a young bonafide ace.2 points

Ozzie couldn’t look in the mirror and truthfully say he identified a good hitter. And just look back at some of his favorite players and how terrible they were at hitting, yet he kept sticking them in the lineup. Ozzie was Darrin Erstad’s biggest fan in 2007 and kept batting him lead off. 🤮2 points

I really hope Baldwin is part of the 2026 plans for the White Sox and I’m not talking about a spot player. Give him a position somewhere in the outfield and put his name in the lineup every day! Am i off on this?1 point

I also gave him a C, optimistically looking at the young talent this team has. I also can’t fault Getz if he truly doesn’t have money to spend and would point fingers to JR. The cynic in me could also give them a D for the overall record.1 point

I would categorize bumping a thread from a year and a half ago to rub it in people's faces as whining, especially coming from someone who gets upset when disagreed with.... some might even call it trolling.1 point

Would Sox have gotten more by trading Crochet 2 months into the season? Would we have gotten Roman Anthony instead? It would be fair to grade Getz based on how Crochet trade has ended up.1 point

26 wins in the first 81 (52 win pace) 35 wins in the second 81 (70 win pace) After Montgomery arrived and started to catch fire it felt like a different team. I agree with all those who said it’s a D at best when looking at the whole season, but I see this season as a tale of two halves. An F for the first half and a C for the second.1 point

Quero has minimal power and doesn’t seem to have a frame to add a lot of strength. Given that he’s struggled mightily last few years against RHP, his ceiling is way lower than most seem to think IMO.1 point

He would have been the third best hitter after Colson and Teel on the White Sox... This game was all about not scoring runs 2 and 3 in the early going.1 point
-
To be fair, for about 42% of the season, this team wasn't on normal TV. Going to guess that much like attendance, apples to apples viewership was flat to up a little.1 point

Never said Getz deserves anything or compared the grades other than pointing out the vote totals. Your comment was verbatim: "Any B's besides the obvious two?" which came off as some sleight to 2 posters you think may have voted B. There are currently 10 B votes so you may need to update your list.1 point

C is a passing grade. The Sox passed zero tests this year. D or F only options.1 point
-
C- feels about right. Biggest pluses were Colson, Teel and the Rule 5 guys. Quero, Baldwin, Vargas and Sosa had their moments…along with Meidroth, but none of those guys feel like the heart of a pennant contender at present time due to various flaws. Schultz, Hagen Smith and Braden the three obvious keys to the future, and the 2026 draft pick. Speed defense execution/fundamentals, the bullpen and rotation, all need dramatic improvements, especially with Robert (at some point, hopefully) and Taylor both gone.1 point

I gave him a C, how do you build a team working for an owner who would make Ebeneezer Scrooge proud.1 point
