If he's not a CF defensively then this is a much weaker deal because a dozen minor league HR but a decent A-ball OBP is a Benintendi-type corner outfielder, unless he grows into more power with age?

Oh dear. The excitement for the deal hinges on Zavala having CF upside totally for me.

I love this trade. Thorpe is good, they don’t trade for Iriarte if they view him as a reliever so they like something there and that’s an electric arm. Zavala, I think that dude will get into the top 100 here in the future.

Slam dunk to me for 2 years of Cease coming off a down year compared to 2022. This is far better than the crap floated around earlier and what Burnes went for. Easy.

Well, if Cease was throwing harder in ST more in line with his past, I would be less ok with this. As such, teams reasonably could hold back on the offers given the amount of risk they are accepting.  Not that he wasn’t still ramping it up. No idea.

I think you and Balta were both saying the league would have to see Cease pitch to know if he was 2022 or 2023 Dylan Cease. They did, and we got a haul. Everybody's right.

Risk management. Holding out as long as possible into the season if necessary could increase the returns. But how sure were the White Sox themselves which Cease this is. Maybe get while the getting is (good enough)

At the end of the day I think Getz has had his "if you want him today, this is my price" price out there for a while.  If we are getting this going again, I think teams are moving into Getz's "today" neighborhood enough that it is worth listening too.  This could well have been a case where guys were trying to see if he would fold early, or if he would hold up.

I just think there were too many questions about Cease for teams to give Getz his price without seeing Cease pitch again. The more they see, the more they may  be willing to give up assuming Cease is back to himself again. That's why we still may be a couple weeks early.

Exactly.  It isn't just the ballpark.

Lots of teams built ballparks back in the days when the public was supportive. But now, the new era of a non support oriented public would need to support building not just the ballpark around a legacy of failure and bad feelings. For a hated owner. This city will need a new owner with deep pockets, and public admiration willing to meet some of the cost in order to sign off. The stank is too big of an obstacle for Jerry to overcome. Some years ago when the south loop had development momentum he stood a chance to be involved, but missed the window. He's done for this, and we are done with this. I have been a vocal opponent of this owner for 30 years, and it burns more red hot every year that passes. Now it seems like the entire fanbase is on the same page. I wish I knew why he had so much benefit of the doubt, and for so long.

I said this earlier, but I'm assuming he won't get everything he asks for. Even if he gets some of what he is asking for and gets the ball rolling, that will likely be VERY attractive for a prospective buyer. I hope this is all a play to increase the sale price of the team and add to his legacy. Sell the team off right when it gets the green light. There are much richer people put there that can cover more.thsb what Jerry is willing to cover.

    Describe that for me please.

From August. JR owes the Crain's guy an apology

“Somebody at Crain’s decided he wanted to write that (the Sox) were looking at the Bears (situation),” Reinsdorf said, “and the White Sox lease has six or seven years left to go and the White Sox have some options, they might move out of the city, they might move out of town, they might go to Nashville. That wasn’t us, that was a (reporter) at Crain’s.

“And ever since the article came out, I’ve been reading that I’ve been threatening to move to Nashville. That article didn’t come from me. But it’s obvious, if we have six years left … we’ve got to decide what’s the future (of where the Sox home is) going to be?

“We’ll get to it, but I never threatened to move out. We haven’t even begun to have discussions with the (Illinois) Sports Authority, which we’ll have to do soon.”

    LOL

I agree with you.  The new stadium would be a great thing for the White Sox franchise.

I think you mean Jerry Reinsdorf. As long as he runs the team, nothing changes. Same crappy minor leagues. Same crappy attitude about paying superstars. It would be a great thing with a new owner. I hope the governor doesn't give Jerry a single cent. It's time for the fans and state government to choke this fucker out.

Really makes me wonder what Getz wanted that they considered to be asking for the moon.

that's propaganda meaning, they don't think Getz has the leverage to get what he wants. It doesn't necessarily mean it was out of line. They perceive the Sox and Getz to be too weak to be able to get their asking price. Again, people need to slow it down, and wait for the leverage. What's the hurry? Can't wait to get to our 95 loss marathon?

You're way off base here man. If it was just his opinion, then he would have just said he disagreed. You don't put "..............I disagree" if it isn't alluding to something he heard. And anyways, he came back later in the thread after the fact and said the Orioles circled back to Cease the other day. That's a little more than opinion based.

Circling back. Meaning Getz sticking to his guns on trade compensation was perfectly reasonable. People are just impatient

I don't really understand the point of it all but when we are discussing who are the young players that are supposed to be influenced by this veteran group - it's the pitchers. We are going to have a fresh bullpen and a lot of tryouts.

They may not be that young, but in terms of experience, clearly they see changing the culture to a bunch of motivated, bad veterans who can play defense is better than a bunch of unmotivated, bat veterans who were once good and also can't play defense.

Both are bad though, really need to emphasize that there is a lot of bad on this roster. Worse than 17 imo.

From my sources, Getz is building a team in his own image
