I was going to say this as well. He’s been here since 2015 and goes out to bars every night, and he still hasn’t picked up the language?

The Red Sox knew something about this guy. The White Sox always think they can outsmart some of these organizations in trades. A lot more investment in baseball intelligence is needed on the south side.

like AJ said, the Sox never hit on minor league prospects that aren't first rounders. they aren't going to be competitive at the big league level until they tear down the entire farm infrastructure and start over.

All they have to do is bring guys up  and hold onto them (when they do well) instead of dicking them around for busted ass veterans. c'est la vie Sox life. We were lampooned when we advocated for this Burger kid to take over.

Yea, it was a fun game . Jake has been pretty good at 3rd, and I noticed less strikeouts . the Marlins were fading a bit, but Jake seems to have got them going again.

His wife indicated frustration. I’m sure playing free of the roadblocks, and  playing free from this mindfucking organization helps him to play more loose.

Said it before, I'll gladly take a smaller payroll from JR if it meant he put his money on the farm system. Scouts, analytics department, etc. You wanna act like we're a small market team? At least act like the Rays.

    Amen

Be careful what you wish for, an empty stadium gives JR and out to move the team to another city or sell to out of towners.

Hmm. Out of towners sounds damn good. Someone with high standards, hunger, and fresh eyes. This whole episode is  about the problem with the White Sox incestuous ways. If a Jeff Bezos of somebody came in here, hallelujah. If Reinsdorf moves the team, well maybe a whole group of innocent fans gets to spend a lot more hours doing something good for their health instead.

‘Friends of mine have said: ‘Why don’t you sell? Why don’t you get out?’ ’’ Reinsdorf said. ‘‘My answer has always been: ‘I like what I’m doing, as bad as it is, and what else would I do? I’m a boring guy. I don’t play golf. I don’t play bridge. And I want to make it better before I go.’ ’’

Liar! You would have fired yourself from informing decision-making. You are an old man that does not learn. George McCaskey learned. You sir, have not.

  7. "I wanted baseball taught in the minor leagues a certain way where people understood what they were doing," Reinsdorf said. "They understood what's the right thing to do in a certain situation. And nobody ever did it right - until Chris [Getz] came along. And this I observed, you know, a couple of years ago. I was thrilled."

Jerry a fan of CGs minors work. JR must not be a huge bottom line type guy. His own opinion carries the day. Who was it was saying Reinsdorf doesn’t actually know a lot about baseball? Chris Getz was not a hot commodity around MLB .

  8. So, my brother said that this was the worst General manager hiring event in Chicago Sports history. Hard pressed to think of worse. Remember, this is not based on job  performance post hire. Just the persons, and the circumstabces around a hiring/event. Worst in Chicago Sports history

Good thing the person in charge of the whole org is the guy who was just in charge of developing talent

Good thing the guy that put him in charge was an owner that said CG was the first Farm Directer in the owner's career that did what the owner wanted. Jerry affirmatively likes what the Sox have done with the farm system.

That Jerry wont be giving Getz any more funds or leeway for building a real minor league system and that he will be just as hamstrung as Hahn/KW may have been.

I think Jerry will take the recent failure as validation of the previous approach Jerry has used for decades. Whatever Getz is allowed to do away from that will be on the cheap I'm sure

Woof, that was worse than I anticipated.  I am not filled with optimism.  I fear they're going to gut the farm system with quick fixes to "win" this winnable division.  It was more "we have a good group in baseball ops" than I ever, ever anticipated.  I think his belief is that the KW/RH feuding was such a cancer that just cutting it out will save the patient. We shall see.

winning fast, I don't know what it means. It doesn't mean spend more money to Reinsdorf, he made that clear. I suspect in the short term we are  going to see a lot of top prospects traded for mid tier MLB  talent like they used to do (much to our detriment). In the long term, I hope they will build up the farm system into a top system perenially. But we all know that's not going to occur.

Weak questions and non answers.  Getz's generalities were annoying as hell.

    Heaven help white sox fans.

Reinsdorf had an obligation to help fans get through this by hiring a relatable person that gives them hope. What a failure of an owner to read the room. If Getz addresses the lack of support staff raw employment numbers in the organization, as well as the quality, there might be some small hope. But good Lord.

I can already see the boob tweet

"The White Sox are bringing on Dayton Moore as their President of Baseball Operations, who did a fabulous job building the Kansas City juggernaut, and promoting Chris Getz to GM. The team can't believe their luck getting a World Series Winner in Moore, calling it a  "game changer"

“We knew we weren’t going to be able to get anybody good. So let’s get this over with.”

From DVS's story tonight at the Sun-Times:

"Assistant general manager Chris Getz, who oversees the Sox’ farm system, and assistant GM Jeremy Haber are assuming GM duties while Reinsdorf looks for a new top front office person. Getz will be a candidate for the GM post."

Set it in stone. GM Getz. Hey new Operations guy…you’ll get Getz and Pedro, and like it.
