No one wants Fields though, so I wouldn’t worry about him too much.  But it would be nice to beef up the line somewhere and yes I’m aware we traded for Bates.  Banking on the draft to provide that depth is risky with so few picks at the moment and a massive hole at WR and still real on the D-Line.

This is a deep WR draft. Can get a good guy in the 3rd round. 9th pick can go to OL or DL but gonna need a big time FA for the other.

Super disappointing start to free agency.  Not addressing the O-Line or D-Line is highly concerning given some of the options at Center & EDGE.  Still quite a few WRs available, but don’t love any of them all that much outside of Ridley.  Hopefully there is something else to come, but I generally hate the “spread the wealth” approach when there is legit impact talent at positions of need.

Everybody needs to go watch the USC-Notre Dame game to see what happens when Caleb Williams' offensive line gets overwhelmed. It wasn't pretty (for him). It's exactly what's going to happen to him in Chicago. Fields will get traded to a team with a good OL and get MVP votes.

There is absolutely some value in waiting to see where Cousins lands. If he goes back to the Vikings, then Atlanta is gonna be a lot more interested in Fields. And as of right now, as long as Atlanta can chase Cousins, they're not gonna trade for Fields anyways.

MIke Greenberg was just talking himself into the Giants possibly trading for Fields. I don't see how that'd work, but hey, I wouldn't mind swapping #9 and #6.

I'd like that as it's much more likely that one of the two top tackles are there at 6 than at 9.

I'd trade some happiness for strike zone judgement, or maybe not striking out 40% of the time on wild flails will make him happy. Just fucking hit, eh?

I'd like to see strike zone judgment prioritized more when drafting/signing players. Much easier than trying to teach an old (or even young) dog new tricks.

    Interesting article.

So, the Related guy says the infrastructure costs are half of what Jerry said.  Also, the sales tax overlay is only as a backstop for when there's a shortfall in the hotel tax (which only happened during COVID in the past).   There would indeed be a riverwalk stretching all the way to Lake Street.

For proponents of the 78 proposal, the less Jerry talks to the press, the better.  Every time he makes a veiled threat to move, or cries how hard it is for him to compete, or blames the fans for not supporting the team, the chances of this passing drop.

As far as a Bears lakefront stadium goes, is there room a hotel and entertainment district to go along with a stadium at that location as is mentioned in the article?  Are they suggesting that the Sox and Bears stadiums would both be surrounded by their own entertainment district?  I'm not sure about that - they aren't that far apart.

My assumption is that if they Bears build a new lakefront stadium, the old one gets converted to an entertainment district.

You realize that Braxton Jones was probably the 2nd best lineman on the team last year right? The tackles weren't the issue with this offensive line last year. It was mostly center and RG.

I wouldn't oppose drafting Alt or Fashanu at 9 if they're there, but you're trying to patch a hole that really isn't there when there are bigger issues with the team.

Braxton Jones was the 2nd best guy on a terrible offensive line. Whoopee.

Drafting Alt/Fashanu and bumping Jones to guard takes care of two slots, and you can sign a good center in FA and/or get a good one in the 3rd round,

Alt definitely won't be there at 9 and Fashanu is a 50/50 shot at best, so if the Bears are trading Fields, they'd better use what they get from that to package with the #9 pick to move up to the 5-6 range.

I still think the gap between Williams and Fields isn't big enough to pass on the massive haul they can get for the #1 pick, but if they can find a way to land one of those LT, I'll feel good about this offense either way.

    1) Bears decide they like Maye more
    2) Trade down to Commanders, take Maye
    3) Use other picks from Commanders trade, hypothetical Fields trade and more to move from #9 to #3
    4) Take Harrison
    5) ???
    6) Profit

    Mostly likely it's

    1) Take Williams
    2) Take Odzune/Bowers
    3) Trade Fields for some extra picks

If somebody currently on the roster is the starting LT, the offense will suck with Fields at QB, the offense will suck with Williams at QB, and the offense will suck with Maye at QB.

IF there's a FA option better than Alt or Fashanu, great, sign that guy. If not, and they don't draft either of those two, the draft is a failure regardless of how it plays out.

The Olympics (and other billion dollar sports schemes) are gifts that keep on delivering debt and misfortunate to the communities holding the bag. There are numerous Olympic infrastructure graveyards throughout the world.

LA seems to be the exception. They have to do remarkably little new construction to be able to host an Olympics.

As in Ortiz, Hall, and the pick+?  If so I’m fine with Getz holding out. Ortiz might turn into a fine player, but that package just doesn’t move the needle for us.

100%. Sox definitely aren't in any payroll crunch, and if nothing else Cease might bring a bit of an attendance bump when he pitches given that none of the other starters are names many people know.

Can still trade him in July, or at the end of the season.

I finally deleted the Twitter / X app from my phone. I’ll miss Super 70s Sports the most, but X really is a cesspool.
I’ll have to visit Soxtalk a little more now when I’m bored.

There’s a similar penchant for hijacking a thread in Soxtalk, but I won’t get the surprise nudity. At least I hope not.

I have an account, but I never post, and I only follow Sox/Bears/Notre dame writers, so I don't see much else.
