They're doing a lot of interviews. Washington has his supporters so I think he's still in the mix.

So Kenny, I figure Hahn wants Espada.  Then you have the wild card.  What does the old man want that will over ride everything.

  2. People that are okay with Guillen managing are falling for the Ditka affect.  The fond memory of a former manager/coach based on nostalgia versus reality.  Do you remember Ozzieball.  I mean not the 2005 season, the rest of it.  Do you remember his kids and the twitter s%*#.  I see some very frustrating baseball and that TWTW crap coming out of hte woodwork.  I see fights with umpires, fights with media, and other teams players.  I see bunting for no reason.  I see nothing that plays into modern baseball.

The only sense I can make out of interviewing Ozzie is getting his opinion on what he'd change with the club. Even doing that I hate bc of the circus that surrounds it. Other than that, Ozzie doesn't have any of the laid out characteristics from Hahn's presser. Last managed 10 years ago, last winning season 12 years ago, made the playoffs in two out of nine tries. Sure, he won a world series as a manager, but that was nearly 17 years ago. Not exactly "recent success" by any stretch.

That's because what Hahn wants means nothing.  It's the old owner who really matters.

We thought it couldn't get worse than Tony but Hahn/KW/Jerry are determined to prove that wrong 🙂

Look at the original statement by Hahn on the qualifications and then his latest version of that.  If an older manager is hired, then you know Kenny and Jerry are truly running it and Hahn is a GM in name alone.  Fancy title for the same role he has had in the past.  The contract guy.  Decisions are made up at a higher level.

I get it, but Ron was a manager before the analytics really took hold across the league, and since then he has been employed by some top organizations, working under Melvin and Snitker.

I don't think it's fair to assume he couldn't have learned. Also Dusty has been pretty damn good in the Astros org, and I wouldn't have guessed that would be such a great match.

I'm open to Washington, especially in this org. The manager just isn't going to bring in the analytics system. That's hahns job. It led him to sign Adam Eaton and Josh Harrison.

Out of Bochy, Shildt and Washington I would prefer Washington.  I hope he brings his attention to defense and the Atlanta way to the Sox.  I just hope he gets to hire his own staff and not get burdened with keeping everyone.

I'd still love for them to add a left handed hitting OF. If it's true they are going to part ways with Abreu, Vaughn can play 1B, Eloy should be the DH, and Sheets shouldn't be a factor on the team. Assuming Pollock picks up his player option, that is the platoon player with either Colas or Conforto/other left-handed bat and Pollock opens the year getting every day at bats until Colas is called up.

The way I see it.  This is Reinsdorf we are talking about.  So this is the scenario I see playing out.  Colas is cost effective and they will wait until May to get them another year of control.

    LF Pollack

    CF Robert

    RF Colas

DH/1B  Yaz/Vaughn/Sheets/Eloy    One of Eloy/Vaughn/Sheets getting traded.  Yaz is a boat anchor and will be fine until say around June and they they might ditch him.

Yeah like a 1 year, like $12-$15 mill pillow contract so he can be a free agent after the season?

They wont get Conforto now that Colas is at the door.  They will wait it out till May and bring him up.

Serious question, would Ron Washington be that bad of a pick? I know he is on the older side as well but  he has been coaching all this time. They also give him credit for improving Marcus Semien’s defense so maybe he could come in here and preach the fundamentals.

I love Ron Washington the defensive guru who you see working for hours with each fielder on their craft.  Do you really think that is what we get when he is the manager.  He wont have time.  This is always the problem when you hire specialists for any professional managerial job.  To be that all around leader they need to leave their specialty on the side, delegate and become a general.  We see this all of the time in football.

I would rather have someone that champions modern ways as well as defense.  If Ron brings what the Braves bring to the table then sure.  But I don't think that is what would happen.

I would prefer a younger manager but they seem to like old and experienced managers so out of that whole group I would prefer Bochy. However, I see where your coming from, we may very well end up in the same position two years from now with the managerial position.

    "They" = Jerry

So pretty much if a young manager that is rich in the modern ways and is into analytics we know Rick is the GM.   Else he the low level grunt who hands out contracts.

After the playoffs, Rick Hahn conducted his exit interview with Jose Abreu and told him Jerry Reinsdorf wanted to personally meet with him after their discussion.

Rick Hahn has no say in this issue, nor should he. Jerry is the Chairman and Jerry will bring Abreu back if Abreu wants to return to the Chicago White Sox.

Rick and Tony made this mess with all the crap signed over the past three seasons. Abreu should not pay the price for the incompetence of others.

Jerry is the owner, owners of professional sports do not get in the middle of personnel discussions unless its "hey can I spend more money than the budget says".   f*** Jerry.

Havent we been down this road before with other players who have eventually fallen off a cliff due to age.  Jettisoning younger players to keep a fan favorite seems great until you realize Jerry isnt going to spend unlimited money this offseason.  This will get bad sooner than later if we start getting rid of younger mlb players for older ones.

  11. "Jerry, Kenny and I sat down to discuss the characteristics of the new manager."

"Similarly to just about every major decision.  Its a collaborative process and Jerry, Kenny and I get to a consensus."

This is not a real GM position.  Most owners don't micromanage things like this.

Not all injuries are equal, the guys I mentioned are basically all among the top 10 players on the roster.

I know other teams have more injuries but who cares about the injury to a middle reliever or 6th starter?

Sox as I mentioned lost 5 of their top7 hitters for 40-50% of the season and two of their top3 starters also for significant time.

I don't care if the sox rosterspots 18-25 stayed more healthy than other teams, what matters is losing so much playing time that all their best hitters except for jose stayed below 100 games and two war.

What's true is that the sox pen and back of the rotation stayed pretty healthy but the lineup was a mess.

So how many times has Robert been healthy for a full season.  Eloy?   Kopech?   But they will all be healhy next year because unicorn farts and fairy dust?

  13. These things are getting out of hand.  At my daughters high school, some guy made a sign and did it in the middle of lunch.  The girl then publicly chastised him for not "putting in enough effort" to make the sign special enough.  She yelled at him and told him to do better.  And then said no.  Come back when you have a better sign and the proper flair. I would of told the girl to get bent.  Its a dance.  And one that happens every year.
