I think the Sox affiliate branding is pretty great, but when a minor league team decides to in the opposite direction it needs to really lean into the silly.

Great slate today with the Jumbo Shrimp, Trash Pandas (top tier MiLB logo), Grasshoppers and Green Jackets

Knights are the worst. Barons is classic. Cannonballers is a fantastic hat. Dash I could take it or leave it.

If they ever really considered it, if he wants to do it, now is the time. If somehow he turns it around a bit, great. If the continue to suck this bad, he will never want to manage again.

If they continue to suck this bad, he'll never manage again by choice or not. But if he shows himself as less of a loose cannon with the media maybe he'll get a job on a team again.

  3. I think Ozzie really really just wants to manage again. That's why he's taken some of the jobs in between.

I thought it was a bad idea for a long time, but with what we are staring at...good lord fine just take over.

You're prob right. I'm impulsive.  I just don't think 30 days now in Kanny would destroy him.  He is prob back at ST facility taking batting practice, playing catch, and lifting weights.

If our ST site was florida and not AZ it may not be as big of a deal but yoking him around across the country I think is a little tough for an 18 year old.

Not even sure the franchise can survive five more years of this…it will seem enduringly dismal.  Relentlessly so.

And Luis Robert, Jr., is close to the point of having a permanent cloud hanging over his career.

The only potential stars/difference-makers left to protect are Crochet, Montgomery (if he matures into 25 homer power and sticks on the LH side of the diamond) and Schultz.

Despite the best org chart in the world, we should be a bit skeptical that Chris Getz looked at the state of the organization, had Dylan Cease, and said to his scouts "we need to prioritize acquiring pitching prospects first and foremost".

Speaking of the Kanny roster, Sox don't even have our # 14 Prospect, George Wolkow, on it.  He played last year in the Rookie League and hit a little bit.  He should be playing.

I don't think he should. There just isn't a great place to put players like him their first season. He will be in ACL and he should be in ACL.

I'm also think its probably fine to give these guys more backfield/training and less reliance on game experience exclusively to develop them.

  7. Is there a better example for how stupid the anti-tanking attempts are than the 2024 chicago white sox? Sure, you could say they shouldn't have traded Cease and Bummer et al and have an even further, more painful recovery from this. But the White Sox gave a bunch of veterans jobs and are playing them over marginal prospects. It has made...zero fucking difference.

There are so many painful parts of living under a Reinsdorf fandom, but it is extremely bad that he is so willing to accept CBA rules that severely hinder his team, and his team the most. He'll side with the smaller owners to limit spending on the bigger teams and undercut labor...and also side with them to restrict the team building opportunities on big market teams that could also undercut labor.

Being forced to watch 110+ games but not being allowed to be in the running for Holliday because we could, in theory but not reality, have spent money on good players the last 5 years instead of $100 million in bullpen arms is just so brutal.

It did nothing to improve the quality of the league but is going to make it likely we are bad for 30 years.

He was mentioned numerous times after Ramos and Sosa and was at one point in the high teens or low twenties as a prospect.

We either believe in Getz’s OR outside perceptions that there was strong and steady progress in our second and third tier prospects or we don’t.

In the end, it only matters if they make it or not with another organization.

The revisionist history always becomes guys like Sosa Colas Rodriguez and Mena were never really legit prospects once they leave the Sox…and we blame Merkin or Boyer for overhyping them when you could only write so many stories about Robert, Hendriks and Burger last year.

He’s Both not a very good prospect and a better player to prioritize than this pathetic list of veterans that have not even buoyed Getz sinking ship remotely.

    What did he f*** up?

He’s barely a top 30 prospect at multiple outlets. There was significant regression on his plate discipline. They didn’t lose him for nothing. They traded him for cash which is what MLB determined he was worth

Good lord dude, a guy like Rodriguez should be worth more to the white Sox than cash or a bunch of old ass never wases they kept over him.

Everyone else is right and you are wrong. If it was June, I’d get it. It’s 7 games into the season.

anything in particular? Looked like a crap draft going over the names just now, not just for Sox, but everybody.

2016 draft was incredible and could have stocked the farm for a decade.

Im not buying the Texans. They played a last place schedule and beat the following teams..

Jacksonville, Pittsburgh, New Orleans, Tampa, Cincy, Arizona, Denver, Tennessee X2, and Indy. They beat Joe Flacco in the playoffs, big deal. I don't think they had a single good win, maybe Cincy on the road but they weren't that great even with Burrow playing.

Now, this is who they get in 2024. Baltimore, Buffalo, Miami, Detroit, Chiefs, Jets, Packers, Cowboys.. this is a very different schedule they are about to face. Depending on how Caleb looks they get the Bears too and that's probably not going to be a gimme.

ok but they aren't rolling out their 2023 team to play the 2024 schedule. They get year 2 of Stroud + Slowik with better skill players, most of their defensive players back (who were young) and a likely upgrade in Danielle Hunter.

Some of the teams you are referencing could easily be worse. Baltimore lost MacDonald and could see their D start to fade, Buffalo is self explanatory, Miami's D could easily be worse and tua is injury prone, Chiefs in regular season may not be that difficult, and Cowboys lost quinn.

Houston has continuity with a young roster and got better. Hence why people think they'll get better.

What - draft a franchise qb and build around them? Novel concept - when you hit on the qb. If you hit - than you can actually miss a few of these moves and still look like geniuses. Inverse is if you miss on qb - you can have a few big hits and it won’t cover up the inverse unless you really hit and have an elite d and everything else.

Very much the equivalent of "throw the touchdown play".

Texans have done a great job turning it around, made some really good hires. A lot of teams tried to do what they did. The jets fans responses to that were pretty priceless. Almost a complete recreation of what the texans did except their QB was awful.

  13. Props to Crochet. Has to be gratifying to know you can do this at this level and start off so strong.

On the flip side…very frustrating. It’s not really a sliding doors moment, just another thing of like - how many other decisions based on expedience added up to this prolonged suckfest.

offensively…we gotta get on base more.

RotoGrinders meteorologist has the game as yellow so should get it in but we'll see.

    • YELLOW   ATL @ CHW They may need a brief late start, but the rain clears north around first pitch and they should be able to play. Cold temps vs. winds blowing out to center at 15-20mph, I'll take the temps in that battle and call it better pitching weather than hitting weather.

    gross.

Before I can say it'll be 20 years, we have to see what happens with the next ownership group. I agree that this is going to be a long seven years or so until the new stadium gets built (assuming that happens!), and then I feel like 2030 will have a wide-open outlook.

Not saying 2030+ will be great, just that we're definitely going to see different people running it, so at least we have that to look forward to.

Hope so. He just seems like he'll survive another 15 years to spite us.

  16. I'm pretty concerned honestly that we are about to head into a 20 year streak of obsolescence like the 90s/2000s Royals. This just seems so far off from building back up, and zero confidence that this group can consistently make the right decision. Mena for Fletcher, the cease trade not inspiring confidence so far.
