  1. If we suck so badly the rest of the season that we get a top 5 pick in next year's draft, then what would you prefer seen done? would you rather go for a 5 tool position player, or a pitcher with stuff that compares to Verlander? IMO the only way that I don't take the pitcher is if the some of the players on the team are traded for a pitcher with that kind of ability. I'd like to see a young pitcher break through to the majors with the Sox that has serious stuff. I haven't seen that for a while but am crossing my fingers with Poreda :pray

    Does anyone have an idea who the top pitchers and position players are in the 2008 draft, or is it impossible to know this early?

    I bet you were happy when he was throwing 97 early last year and striking out 13 in back to back starts. He got injured and needs to get back to dropping and driving instead of sidearming everything.

    He gets ontop of that fastball and gets it back to 93-94 and he will dominate again.

    I don't recall Jose ever throwing 97 last year. the hardest I saw him throw was 95. He was mostly 93-94 last season. His forkball is at 72-75 this season when it was 78-81 last season. Slider was 84-87, last year, it is now 78-82. I've seen his fastball as low as 85 this year :o He's not getting his stuff back. I don't believe it is mechanical, he's just an old fart. He would have been on our team last year anyway, so what he did last year is irrelavent. The fact that he's going to be on our team for the next two years, with Jamie Moyer stuff, making over $10 million is what is bad. He'll be DFA before the end of next year. There's no way we'll find a taker for him unless he magically gets his fastball back to the 93-94 that you were talking about, and the rest of his stuff goes back to where it was last year too.

  3. I think that the only thing Jose would be worth in a trade is a bag of balls right now. His contract has become an albatross. I think that nobody would want him on their team for $10 million. I was not, after the 2005 season, happy about the contract he signed. This team would be better off if they let him walk after last year.

  5. All I have to say is that this guy better be really, really good at the major league level to justify taking him over Porcello. That may change in a month or two, if Porcello decides to go to UNC. If that is the case, then KW made the right choice. That being said, I like the idea of a power lefty in our minor league system. Though he's raw for a college player, He's only 20, compared to most college guys in the draft this year who are 21-23. I'm hoping that they can fine tune his delivery so that he has a consistent 94-97mph fastball. Can anyone post a full scouting report on his secondary pitches? I'd like to know if his slider is more of a sweeper(79-84mph) or power(85+mph) and whether or not there is a big discrepancy in his fastball-changeup speed a la Johan Santana. If your fastball is at 94 and your Changeup is at 77 then you'll get a lot more batters out in front of the change.

  6. I noticed that when changing forums on the site there is a flashing timer that counts down the time until the Bears start the preseason that lasts for a couple seconds. I guess when people see that it pretty much says that we all think that the Sox really, really suck this year.

  7. I'd agree that it would be nearly impossible to find and deport all illegal immigrants, but we do need to enforce the law. The best way to find the illegals is to search the employers records. The way to keep them from coming here is to not hire them. No jobs, no reason to come here. Large corporations such as Wal-Mart need to pay heavy fines straight out of their pocketbook if they are found to have hired illegals. Other employers too. About the point of "If the illegals are deported, then who will do their job?" I have an idea. If people are on welfare then they are unemployed, right? Why can't these people do the jobs that the illegal immigrants are doing? The people on welfare need to get up off their lazy ass and get a job. How about the money used for welfare is instead used for vocational training/education for the people who are on welfare now. Use those funds to help these people get their GED, and become productive members of the workforce.

  8. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Jun 14, 2007 -> 06:44 PM)
    I kinda want to hope for losses, but as a Sox fan I just can't. I am in a pickle.

    Sometimes, when you know your team has no shot for the playoffs, you do hope for losses. I kinda am right now. You don't root against them, but you hope for entertaining losses. Being a Bear fan, there are a couple of times when the Bears f***ed up their chance of getting a pretty good QB or a perrenial pro bowler(hindsight is 20/20 though) by winning games they weren't supposed to. I normally wouldn't hope for losses unless the season is completely lost and the team I'm a fan of is mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but this is a special case because of the people in charge of the organization. If the Sox go on any sort of winning streak, Kenny would probably become a buyer rather than a seller, which would spell disaster for the future of this club. Even if Kenny becomes a seller, I am very afraid that he'll f*** it up, and this team will be a cellar dweller for about 5-10 years. You'll probably think this is too pessimistic, but I'm not going to expect a winning record from the Sox until 2010 at the earliest, and the next division contending team around 2012. We're in for a rough 3-5 years while we rebuild, so hang in there and keep the faith. :gosox1:

  9. This team is 76% horses***. the 5 guys in the rotation and Thome are the only players who aren't. I half expect 15+ strikeouts and a no hitter tomorrow. They need to trade Dye and Iguchi, and throw Buehrle in there if the Sox don't think they can sign him. Kenny not trading Crede this offseason has turned out to be a HUGE mistake. They need to get top talent for them. I just have a feeling that KW will butcher the trades and we will be set back a long time. [green] I'm looking forward to knowing what it is like to be a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates from 1993-present and a Detroit Tiger fan from 1988-2005.[green]
