I just don’t want Pedro to be the guy teaching the young guys on this team how to be major leaguers.  I totally recognize that this team could be managed by prime Bobby Cox and still lose 100, but Pedro honestly does not add any sort of value to this team.

This is exactly where I stand. They suck and will suck, but why let this guy do any more damage.

Perhaps you can provide me with 1st year GMs who had payrolls slashed as much coming off 100 loss seasons who had tighter leashes .

No 2 situations are the same and acting as if they are is bs.

Yes teams like the Orioles Dbacks ,Pirates all have made strides recently but look how long it took the Orioles and Pirates. How many teams rebuild with the same GM and President in charge of the downfall as well as the rebuild ?

How many of those teams refused to play the game in the Dominican Republic like JR has for 45 years ? What do you know about the best coaches, best scouts and best training facilities of other teams as compared to the White Sox ?

How often have other teams traded away their international money compared to the Sox ? These are only the questions I can remember to ask. There would probably be many more if I could remember everything about how JR conducts business that seems a bit different than other teams. There's also the fact that the Sox are one team of 2 teams to never have signed a player to a $100M contract.

At least I accept the fact I know practically nothing about what's going on behind the scenes and don't pretend to know everything about  the Sox and every front office in the game . That's the only reason I have for cutting any executive hired by JR any slack at all.

It isn't a huge amount in the grand scheme of things, but he did give Martin Maldonado $4 million for some reason.

Only 1 person voted that they would be historically bad in the "How many wins" poll.

Majority of the board had this pegged as a 100 loss team though.

I knew they would be bad, but I figured they would be better than last year. They still have to play 22 under .500 to match last season, but it's obviously heading that way. If they play .500 from here on out, they will lose 90 games.

I think it's more that the kids are better trained, better mentored, eat better, and have more access to better statistical analysis than "old guys blowing out sooner".

I think its  higher velos. Hard to catch up to gas as you age, and if you can't hit a fastball, you're pretty screwed. Wasn't so bad when guys were throwing maybe 92 and hitters were all hopped up on steroids.  Stone was saying how little Jax throws his fastball last night, and he had 97 MPH cheese.

They had him on the postgame show saying this. Ozzie said he was right, it isn't going to last forever. The season ends in October.

All the folks trollishly agitating for the Sox to relocate to Nashville should read the Coyotes reddit page and see all the pain and anguish it caused, or just watch the final sign tv off.  It will not be funny when reality hits.

And all they had to do was give them a billion or so and they would have stayed.

I assume there is already some sort of handshake deal with the mayor for them to make this most recent announcement a day before they draft Caleb..

They need the money from the state. They also are going to have a tough time with friends of the parks. Tomorrow’s deal is the same thing the Sox did when they rendered drawings, exciting a lot of people.

I find it odd that the Bears would put in over $2B into a stadium they would not own.

So do I, that's why they will ultimately wind up in Arlington Heights. They will show some drawings, just like the Sox did a while back, and that will excite a lot of people, but when it gets time to pay, they are going to be SOL with the state.

Okay, I'll agree with you. I don't know how stringent JR was on the budget. I do believe that the Sox were in such a bad position that they really had to overpay to bring in players. Benintendi probably should have been a 3-year deal, but I'm guessing they had to go to 5 to beat out another offer that wasn't even as good as the other team's 3-year offer.

It was also a strange off-season that really reeks of collusion. They had offers on the table to guys like Pham and Clevinger for months.

The reason Getz got the job is because he would take it and kiss the ring. Payroll is down huge. The first question any candidate from another team would have asked him would have been about payroll and budget. If JR was straight wtih them, they would have ended their candidacy right after they got done eating the meal JR bought them.

I know this wasn't directed at me, but a number of reasonably solid baseball insiders believed he was ready and would be great. I thought we found a diamond in the rough.

I knew we weren't going to get a "name". His replacement will be off similar caliber.

I agree with the replacement, that's why I think it has to happen ASAP. Get someone who can make mistakes and it won't cost you the playoffs now, and when the team is ready, they will be ready as well.

Serious question, what made you think he would be great?

In his introductory press conference he talked about being prepared, and accountable. Being fundamentally sound.  Ready to kick the opponent's ass every night. He used controlling both sides of the ball, which meant getting ahead in counts pitching, and taking pitches hitting. I thought he was great. I was wrong. Everything he talked about has been a failure of epic proportions.

I realized now he was saying what he thought the guys above him wanted to hear. He's a brown noser. Can't kiss Rick and Kenny's ass anymore, so he kisses Getz' and JR, even Tony's HoF baseball persons asses/
