I am going to be extremely interested in the trade deadline this year. My hope, and expectation, is that guys like Fedde and Wilson will be dealt. There is also a small part of me that is worried that if they continue to perform well, they will just hang onto them keeping up this charade that they can compete soon.

I don't expect that to happen, but it is a slight worry.

    I don’t think that’s a concern if they’re 30 games under .500 in July

I'd deal him if there's a strong enough offer to move him.

Me too. The one thing this organization is relatively deep on is starting pitching (anssuming the kids in A+ and AA continue to develop) and they should be able to sign another couple Fedde/Clevinger type free agents in the offseason if needed to eat innings.

yeah i never understood that line of thought, Robert's remaining contract years aren't exactly cheap, 8.3mil > 20 mil > 20 mil

Not just that but his remaining years don’t align with the rebuild timeline at all. If they’re lucky, maybe they’re competitive in the final year of his contract. And that’s a big maybe.

Is Cannon going to stick in the rotation or will he get demoted to AAA as soon as Clevinger is ready?  Seems like Nastrini is safe with Flexen moving to the pen, but this team is a lot more fun with two legit youngsters in the rotation.

The starting rotation has the potential to be a lot of fun in the second half of the season with Crochet, Nastrini, Cannon, Thorpe, and Iriarte all 24 years old and younger. I wasn’t a proponent of promoting these guys until they were ready and honestly felt like they rushed Nastrini and Cannon a bit but perhaps I was wrong. They looked very good in their debuts.

should've traded him in 2023, huge missed opportunity there.  if anyone could prognosticate this kids health, it would've been his current team and yet they still felt that he wouldn't get hurt again, what a massive failure, sox fans really don't deserve this s%*#

When I suggested trading him last offseason, most laughed at the idea. “You’ll never get fair value trading him now” was the common reply. Well, his value is undoubtedly less now than it was a couple months ago even if we accepted an “underwhelming” package.

It’s 46 at bats but I guess that’s enough to write him off.

I haven’t written him off but I do hate that big leg kick. I don’t see that working against higher level pitching. Too much movement, needs to simplify things.

And didn't win any postseason series. It was a complete debacle. The only thing good to come out of that rebuild was TA's cornfield walk off, Gio's no-hitter, and Leury Legend's bomb in the post season game. That's it.

Playoffs are a crap shoot. All you can ask is that they put themselves in a position to make it and do damage. They did that for two seasons.

Cause many of us remember when the team was ranked first — built off of external trades and a few high draft picks — but they couldn't develop any supplemental pieces to support that talent and that talent never really put it all together, with players unable to stay healthy or keeping their same strengths and weaknesses that they had in the minor leagues.

And now the guy in charge of developing the minor league system back then is in charge of the whole operation.

And despite all that they were still a pennant contender for two seasons (a rare occurrence for this organization). Unfortunately, the peak was much shorter than expected but they had a legitimately strong roster for two seasons.

That's why I haven't COMPLETELY understood the doom and gloom unless you are entirely ignoring the whole picture. There is some hope to be gleamed from it all. Yes the major league team is complete ass, but literally no one on the team matters in a year or two minus like, 4 or 5 dudes.

They’re actually in a decent position all things considered. It’s going to take a few years though. Should have a top 5 farm system for the next several years and have a clean slate from a payroll perspective at the MLB level outside of Beni’s contract. As always, it’ll come down to drafting and development unless Jerry is suddenly willing to break the bank in free agency.
