QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 12:49 PM) I'll find a way, why should I have to get taxed if the big dogs don't? The game doesn't work that way unfortunately but godspeed sir!

QUOTE (KagakuOtoko @ Dec 21, 2017 -> 12:31 PM) I agree, but I still make bets and such. It's not an idle account for sure. I just don't want to pay any taxes on it when I withdraw it. Good luck with that

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 20, 2017 -> 03:28 PM) I wonder how that would work. Say you are a 3 star guy, maybe a borderline 4 star, and OSU offers you now. Do you really want to go there? Sure you will win all the time, but will you get a legit shot at playing? You know some 5 starts are coming the next year, and there probably is a few 4 or 5 stars in front of you. Every kid is different, but most kids, especially in a recruiting cycle, have egos that are stroked and built up. Part of it is self-confidence, part of it is the recruiting environment. That long term realistic view tends to go out the window in these emotional decisions. It's a big reason why we see transfers every year. Side note: I don't blame any kid at all for jumping on an offer to a blueblood, the chance to win and compete with the best is a huge allure.

I tried to help fight it this time around, but honestly couldn't put as much effort into it because I knew that this administration wouldn't listen.

QUOTE (Whitesoxin2019 @ Dec 14, 2017 -> 03:29 PM) I said that Urban Meyer would probably be leaving within 2 years and that OSU will fall into the next tier. That's just speculation on my part as a college football fan. I've seen Alabama, Oklahoma, Notre Dame, Nebraska all go through droughts. It is bound to happen to OSU imo. If you think the OSU job is the #1 job in all of football, then maybe he stays. I'm not so sure it is. Everyone can make cases for certain schools to be the best job, the fact that OSU is heavily in those discussions is all that really matters. I think Urban, from an outsider perspective, looks pretty darn happy at OSU and being in the Big Ten.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 12, 2017 -> 05:52 PM) I wouldn't say he has the results to show he's a top-tier coach yet. Lots of guys have won huge at low to mid-majors only to be ineffective at the highest level He turned a 12 win OKST team into a 20 win, 7 seed team. He can do it at the P5 level. Like I said, he's got a tremendous reputation for being a top notch coach, he has enough results to back that up (in my opinion). But he has zero evidence in being able to build a program at the P5 level, so plenty of questions on whether he actually succeeds at Illinois. -

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Dec 11, 2017 -> 07:15 PM) Watching his Oklahoma State teams last year. Maybe he's improved since then. His teams haven't exactly played the stingiest defense. Like I said, I think he's good, just not sure he's a cream-of-the-crop guy. He's not that dissimilar from Prohm, here. Underwood has the reputation and the results to back it up, he's a top tier coach. The questions are around his ability to build a P5 program (with recruiting, etc). I think he can do it, but the start isn't as encouraging as I would like. -
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Dec 8, 2017 -> 04:47 PM) This is nonsense. They're not just civilians. They're asked to do things civilians would never do. Hence, they get some leeway in their decision making. They are paid to do this decision making, the civilians they shoot arent. One chose the profession, the other can’t chose their skin color, their neighborhood, how the cop acts.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 11:09 AM) The Senate voted 90-0 in favor back in the summer. https://www.politico.com/story/2017/06/05/i...em-trump-239157 If this would cause so much upheaval, why would this unanimously be voted on by the Senate? Genuinely curious.

QUOTE (Iwritecode @ Dec 7, 2017 -> 10:44 AM) All 6 trailers for season 4 of Black Mirror. Release date is Dec 29. WANT.
-
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 08:52 AM) I assume the price would just be buying out all the seats. I don't think they would care if that's the case. I just figured they were guaranteed almost sellouts already, but my guess is they are re-purposing other show times to fit our request rather than sellout current showings for the hottest movie.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 6, 2017 -> 09:40 AM) Or Russ hires us all for a day just so we can see it together. Boom! If you know Identity and Access we can talk
-
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 01:36 PM) All in favor of the expelling bigruss from the board for unseemly bragging, say aye We are also seeing it on the 15th, not sure how we got a theater to agree to it that close to the release date but it's awesome.

White Gold on Netflix was a fun short show, if you like The Inbetweeners you should enjoy it (Jay and Simon are in it and play similar roles).
-
QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 5, 2017 -> 10:01 AM) Can Netflix just release s4 of Black Mirror already? These teasers are great and all but GIMME! I was wondering when they were going to come out with a 4th season, can't wait!

My department's holiday party is renting two theaters to watch the movie, stoked for it!

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 3, 2017 -> 06:57 PM) We’ve talked before about this in here, but can anyone point me in the direction of a good sound bar? Doesn’t have to be great. Not looking to spend too much. I see some on amazon but not sure of model. Got mine from Costco, I believe it's a Vizio one. It was about $100 on sale or so, and it's great for a simple sound system.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 29, 2017 -> 04:13 PM) Holy s***. A Purdue coach turned down Tennessee? Damn. Ouch. Read he accept d but AD couldn’t get the chancellor on board with the terms, so Brohm declined the new terms. If true, they may be worse than Illinois.
-
QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 26, 2017 -> 09:08 PM) My concern is there was very little improvement over the course of the season. In fact, in many areas they regressed. Yes, they're young. Yes, they were hit with a good amount of injuries. But that doesn't excuse the very questionable play calling, the constant mental mistakes/penalties, etc. The talent they had this year was MAC level, and not high end MAC. The freshmen played because they were better than juniors and seniors, which is terrible. I also saw improvement from individuals but the team has a lot of work to do. But it’s hard to evaluate with so many freshmen playing. Next year should give us a better indication if this is going to work. If love can get us to 7 wins consistently then he was worth every penny. I think we are all seeing the true effect of Beckmann, scandal, Cubit.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Nov 27, 2017 -> 01:02 AM) Stop. History of college football doesn't exist since 2008. But yeah, the last decade has been horrendous. No fan base has had it worse. The administration is killing us and is totally incompetent. But bring in the right football coach, and things change. Being the big state school in a state that is seeing an noticeable increase in high school talent, plus having several billionaire boosters and the facilities that we have, not hard to see us getting back to where we were pre-2008. No fan base has had it worse? Illinois fans say hi.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 19, 2017 -> 08:49 AM) Credit where credits due, Mizzou looked like worst team in country it’s first 4 games, played better but lost, then ripped off 5 straight and is going bowling. Very weak schedule, but again, they looked like worst team in country. Also nice because this looks like a brutal year for a team in mizzou’s tier to hire. Glad you guys won a bit, totally understand not wanting to hire this off-season but I really don’t think Odom is the answer and he’s giving Illinois a chance at St. Louis recruiting at least.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 25, 2017 -> 11:41 AM) Chip in at UCLA. Riley out at Nebraska (could be good for heads and ISU recruits) I can’t believe Nebraska firing pelini for being good not great and replacing him with Oregon states good not great coach didn’t work out. Lol I think everyone saw this outcome coming for Nebby, just a terrible hire.

QUOTE (Sox-35th @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 02:23 PM) Based on your track record, I should be an admin. You don't like the reality that Cuonzo is a bad coach. Sorry dude. Nothing I can do for you. Feel bad for the Mizzou faithful, but they bet on the Porter train and it looks like they lost. You got your shot in, let's be civil now. That goes for all. -

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 12:05 PM) Ouch, sounds like Porter Jr is out for the season with a screwed up back. edit: according to random Twitter person. I thought it was better sourced, but I guess not. If true, it's terrible. 2 herniated discs is no joke. Really hope he can make a comeback, that's a lot of potential lost and I'm sure would be devastating for him. Never like to see a young man go through something like that. -
QUOTE (Reddy @ Nov 20, 2017 -> 11:33 AM) I think everyone should read this prior to deciding whether or not he should retire. WaPo Op-Ed. We should listen to women, IMO. I'm a feminist, and I study rape culture, and I don't want Al Franken to resign. Yea I don't agree with that Op-ed, and I really don't agree with this:
