I know Fletcher has turned around slightly and Mena's ERA has gone up from 0, but to be fair, Fletcher's ERA has also gone up.

Just an awful trade considering the state of this franchise. Like I said, would have been perfectly fine with this moving going into 2021.

But now? I fail to see the long term goals with this move. And you can't even use the excuse about his fastball velocity when they turn around and trade for a Drew Thorpe.

  2. This makes it even more frustrating that they didn't do a real search to rebuild this organization because they "couldn't waste a year" now they come out and finally acknowledge this thing is nowhere close and its going to be a while.

If Fedde proves out to be a 4.00 ERA 1.30 WHIP guy in Chicago who pulls down 6ish innings a start, a LOT of teams will be lining up for him.

I am going to be extremely interested in the trade deadline this year. My hope, and expectation, is that guys like Fedde and Wilson will be dealt. There is also a small part of me that is worried that if they continue to perform well, they will just hang onto them keeping up this charade that they can compete soon.

I don't expect that to happen, but it is a slight worry.

Considering this is a trash heap rotation/bullpen and that the stats skew comes primarily from a few guys, I have no problem being impressed with what this pitching staff has done as a whole.

Sure, they aren't as embarrassing as the hitting has been. I guess we can take a small victory lap on that so far.

If these guys could even be league average with hitting they probably would be at .500 with how decent the pitching has been, unfortunately they put out the worst offense ever assembled. I don't care how good your defense is, if you can't hit the fucking ball you're not going to score runs, and your product will not be interesting.

Why do people keep thinking our pitching has been decent? It hasn’t been. 25th in ERA, 26th in WHIP, walking too many people not striking out enough people.

That's why I haven't COMPLETELY understood the doom and gloom unless you are entirely ignoring the whole picture. There is some hope to be gleamed from it all. Yes the major league team is complete ass, but literally no one on the team matters in a year or two minus like, 4 or 5 dudes.

Whats going on with the MLB team is reality. Its nice that they think we have a good system, we had a good system a few years ago too and if that has proven anything its that there is a very real chance that none of these guys become anything.

That's why there is so much doom and gloom, we have lived this scenario once already recently so its not like we can just bank that in a few years all these guys will come up and we will be winning 90+ games.

Again though, I will say the reshape of the farm system so far has been a major bright spot in an otherwise dark time for this franchise.

This is an internet message board for a sports team that went from title contender to worst team in the league faster than most could process.

I don’t understand how you continue to be surprised and/or bothered that the majority of the discussion is negative.

I don't understand how he keeps claiming its just a baseball team who cares but is continually shaming any poster that has a problem with their favorite team being the worst team in baseball. How about take your own advice, not care, and go away?

Trying to not set multiple records offensively and also a loss record. Hopefully they drop Pillar.

With the reality that they can't pick any better than 10th overall in the 2025 draft, there really is no incentive to just be straight awful. They might as well try whatever they can to extract as much value as they can from the roster this season.

Hopefully, Pham can come in and provide SOMETHING that can help this team in the future.

The Giolito and Lynn trades give me optimism that we can get something interesting for Fedde if he keeps it up and maybe some of the relievers (possibly Soroka if he can turn it around).

I am hoping that Fedde can stay somewhere between 4.00 - 4.30 and eat innings with good K numbers. If so, I think we can definitely get something interesting.

What I really want to see is Kopech and Wilson continue to look dominant out of the pen because they could have some real value come deadline time.

Other than those 3, this team has nothing of value to trade as of today which is a real shame.

I don't get the love affair about having guys ready for the next good Sox team. No one knows when that will be. By you're argument if Eder is struggling in 1.5 years on a bad Sox team they should trade him for another injured prospect ?

It's fine you like Eder but he may not be good enough and if he is good enough there's no guarantee  that the Sox will be a good team in his tenure with them. He'll be 30 in 5 years. When do you expect the Sox to be above .500 again ?

You know you can still be a bad team with plenty of good players on it. Look at the Angels with multiple years of having Ohtani and Trout. Those 2 are superstars and they had other good players but to be a good team you need 20 good players and depth behind those 20.

Your MLB team isn't going to get good any time soon trading 27 year old MLB talent for 24 year old injured minor league talent very often.

The Sox, right now, might be the worst team in baseball. In 3 years they may be the best team in baseball, or they may still be the worst team. The difference is we KNOW they are terrible right now, and a 28 year old 1 - 1.5 WAR player does nothing for the current team.

If Eder puts it together and becomes something, that's a win. If he doesn't, it was still worth it given the state of the franchise and what needs to happen to have any chance to be good again.

I've already fought the whole group over what we know Crochet has thrown in the last few years. The Sox will probably take him up to 100 innings this year, then ramp him down, which sounds completely reasonable.

I agree, it does seem reasonable for the innings workload. Not sure I agree with letting him throw 90 pitches and going into the 6th inning right out of the gate though. Just doesn't seem wise, especially with this season already toast.

At this point just use the Costanza principle.  Whatever the Sox do, the right thing is the opposite. It feels entirely rushed. Dude has some talent, was a 3rd round pick out of the SEC, but his numbers are no bueno. And, he's not on the 40 man already. Just recycle someone else man. No reason to rush this guy up here, get his clock going, put stress on his arm and mind, and have to add him to the 40 man.

I would rather see what this kid can do than Flexen or Soroka so im all for it.

If what he said was right, then all major league teams are trying to grind down all of their pitchers.

There's just a little bit of a difference between an MLB starter and a reliever trying to transition to a starter who hasn't come anywhere close to those game workloads in many years.

Who cares? I'm not talking about Nastrini's HOF case based on ST. He looked better than at least one of Flexen, Fedde or Soroka. That was the comment. ST counts for something.

ST counts for getting people ready to play a 162 game season, not to watch 4 starts against future insurance salesman and say “yep he’s ready”

They shockingly made the right decision anyways so I’m not going to argue with you about it.
