  1. I was curious, because of how sluggish the offense looks, so I wanted to consult something besides my eyes and went to Fangraphs. By fWAR the Sox are 8th in offense/defense and 2nd in pitching. They have a positive run differential. There are a number of notably underachieving players with track records. I think they will be fine, but the early slow starts, like last year, are just super painful to watch. It doesn't help when Nick Williams is batting 5th.
  2. Josh from Soxmachine suggested that David Peralta was a "future White Sox" due to him checking a number of boxes (left handed, on a cheap deal, eminently obtainable). I kind of hate it but since it's an unimpressive, temporary bandage on a self-inflicted wound, it's the most White Sox thing that can happen and is virtually guaranteed.
  3. Gio has been great but Bieber looks like he could go 10 innings
  4. watching this team hit is just incredibly grim right now
  5. This lineup is not going to score many runs right now. Hopefully some folks get healthy and Jose and Yoan start to look better.
  6. Ehhh, he raked in 2016...as a 23 year old in A ball. In 2017 and 2018 he was unremarkable (and again, old for the level) and in 2019 he definitely raked, but Charlotte is also a different kind of park. I think it's correct to be skeptical that this is anything but a nice bit of SSS luck for now.
  7. I think the answer to the question "Why didn't he get a look earlier" can be answered in two parts: 1. He was/is a late-20s prospect with a short track record of success and no defensive position 2. The White Sox had some depth ahead of him in the 1B/DH/Backup C position Fortune took care of part 2. Only time and ABs can eliminate part 1. Right now he's a fun story and there is reason to think he can succeed, but he will need to "adjust to the adjustments" so to speak.
  8. Pretty sad that Cease, after a strong spring, immediately reverts to 2020 Cease.
  9. The Sox seem to be quite poor at drafting and developing position players, which is why most of our big "hits" in that area have been pitchers and international players that are almost MLB ready on signing. That, combined with an approach to free agency that I will charitably call "frugal", has put us in the situation we find ourselves.
  10. Would be surprised if they don't try to trade for Tauchman. He isn't great but there's no OF depth as things stand.
  11. I think it's when the regular season starts.
  12. Especially this season, spring training means nothing. Considering teams can just roll an inning if the pitch count gets too high and they are playing 6-7 innings. Don't put much stock in these games.
  13. Fun to contrast this with the Sox Machine guys who gave the off-season an C- overall.
  14. The hazards of having a bunch of guys graduate all at once, combined with having a top-heavy system and no MiLB season in 2020. Things could shift rapidly before the next rankings.
  15. I think it's speculation and not solid info. There hasn't really been a market for Ozuna so anything could happen, but the Sox are in extreme budget mode and Ozuna is getting a multi-year deal.
  16. Twins claimed Ian Hamilton He's going to destroy us, isn't he?
