A bunch of DFA candidates, just like I told you during Spring Training when you were getting excited about Nicky Lopez hitting well.  Meanwhile, you were busy hyping up the rotation including guys like Soroka and Flexen as trade candidates because they had one or two good seasons like 3 to 5 years ago before injuries ruined them, all the while arguing with anyone who logically disagreed with you.

Everyone knows that good teams sign guys like Clevinger, Pham or Grossman after spring training (or just as it's ending) with expectations that they will be major contributors.

Cease and Lynn are doing great as well.

Another GM would have taken a year to assess what was wrong with the organization!

Mainly because it would have taken a year to assess so much.

That's it right there.  He didn't show much post surgery last year, but he did have a decent season the year before it.  I guess we will see if he is a .800 or .600 guy now.

Why not the 1.205 that he's currently rocking in Charlotte?

    Unleash the weapon.

Utility player that won't produce negative WAR if a starter goes down for a couple months. Before the ACL, that looked to be about what he was. It's no secret but Chicago hasn't been able to produce 1 WAR utility guys for decades. Other teams seem to do a bang up job but we either bring up black holes or we sign overpaid vets that can't even putup 1 WAR in any role.

Yeah, this is why I said depth development.

It keeps you from spending money on the Leurys, Lopezes, and DeJongs of the world.

22nd rounder. Get AJ Pierzynski on the horn. Add in Adam Engel, and there's two late rounders developed in house.

Engel precedes Getz, but yeah, him too.

Remillard was the right choice.  Easy dude to root for though.  He'll almost certainly clear, but will now have the option to elect free agency.  In my opinion, he'd be a little crazy to as his easiest path back to the big is easily the Sox and will continue to play a key role for Charlotte. But the grass is always greener...we'll see.

I wish ReMVP was hitting better so you justify jettisoning Nicky Lopez, but unfortunately, he's putting up worse numbers than Naperville's Finest in Charlotte.

But we should rejoice, for the prodigal son is returning and Haseley isn't around to murder him.

When considering firing a manager, ask yourself if another team would ever consider him for their manager in the future? If the answer is no, then you know what you should do.

    I keep thinking of this:

Likely nothing as long as JR is the owner and Chris Getz the General Manager. Hopefully this offeason the team attempts to build around Robert and Crochet by signing some veteran free agents who aren't totally washed up. They should also try to identify which of their top prospects are really just fools gold and trade them for some players who can make an immediate impact.

Would you include Louis Robert in the category of "core" players that were held onto too long?

Acquiring multiple blue chippers is a lot easier said than done.  Most Sox fans I know have very little interest in sitting through another 4-5 tank job of unwatchable baseball.

If Luis Robert is held on too long, it means Getz has failed, because Robert is 26-years-old.

If Getz can get the team back into the playoff picture in 2 years - that's supposed to be Robert's prime. But the flipside is that we have a shitshow medical staff and a dumpster fire organization, so Robert can get hurt by just existing.

FYI - It looks like Korey Lee is throwing runners out at the league average. Around 23% of the time. But Maldonado has only thrown out 1 runner all year to a very poor caught stealing rate.

Another great reason to keep Korey in the line-up as much as possible.

Ok, yeah. Vinnie said Lee had 1 runner thrown out in 10 attempts, but it's 3.

    Maldonado is a robust 1-for-13.

    ...so what will work?

    Spending money.

We've beat the drum ad nauseum, but JR could have opened up the pocketbook for Harper or Machado, or if we want to get real fucking crazy, both.

Insert both those guys into that 2020 lineup ad you've got RF + 2B (Moncada stays at 2B) solved for the first time in forever. They don't draft Madrigal for need.

But nooooo, can't spend money. So guess the only other option is rebuild. Which I know you that you know Joe, but I need to spell out for people who don't understand it.

  11. The fact that this is a "Fearless, Aggressive, Selfless and Technically sound" roster assembled by Getz kind of explains his track record developing prospects.

Also, on yesterday's CHGO, Vinnie Duber laid into it about runners stealing all day on them, say that it's clearly a White Sox problem. You have a new pitching staff (sans Kopech), new catchers (and Korey Lee has a good arm), yet they can't throw anyone out.

Wonder who goes. Mendick needs to be added to the 40-man.

Logic says that if Sheets is getting playing time in right, you don't need both Pillar and Grossman. Especially because Mendick can also play some OF. And Pham on the way.

But this team is trying (not succeeding) to win and those two are two of the team's best hitters.

So maybe Remillard? They wouldn't cut a SP from the 40-man, and the only relief pitcher is Horn. He's been getting obliterated so maybe it's worth a shot?
