The additions of Graveman and Kelly don't make sense if you aren't going to trade Kimbrel. I'm giving them some benefit of the doubt here, but maybe I shouldn't.

If Kimbrel is still going to be here (unlikely, imo) then I'd rather have Greinke or Tyler Anderson as SP depth than Joe Kelly. Keeping Keuchel as an expensive 6th starter isn't ideal but it shouldn't be the end of the world.

I think he's a better version of Keuchel, but I get the comparisons. I think pushing Keuchel and Lopez further into depth roles would have been a good idea.

Just trying to think rationally, I don't think they would have picked up Kimbrel's option without knowing he has some trade value. Fegan & others have reported they surveyed the market on that before officially picking it up. However, I don't think the way they value relievers is rational at all, so maybe they're fine with ultimately keeping him.

I'm with you, but I also don't think that would force their hand to aim higher. If the Joc & Rosario types sign elsewhere, I think we'd then see RF just get split between Sheets, Vaughn, Engel, & Leury. Maybe even Adolfo would get a chance to stick if rosters are expanded in April.

Too risk adverse to offer Rodon the qualifying offer, which he never would have accepted. But not risk adverse enough to avoid getting stuck with a 16M reliever they don't need or want sure would be quite something.

Obviously Suarez looks overpaid right now, but I don't think it's impossible at all for him to bounce back to being a pretty good player. ~11.5M AAV type of deal over 3 years is nothing in the grand scheme of things anyways.

Williamson is a top 100 guy, but that's a pretty light return. Salary dumping Suarez probably prevented Cincinnati from getting a better 2nd piece.

I can't speak for other people, but I'd be significantly less fixated on the Sox adding one of Conforto, Bryant, or Suzuki in free agency if they had the farm system depth to go out and trade for 5 WAR players in their prime like the Braves just did.

Comparing how he spent the entire 2020 season relentlessly criticizing Renteria vs the radio silence on *all* of Tony's issues last year made me lose so much respect for him. He's still a solid analyst, but take him out of the CSN booth and his #1 job is being a PR guy for Reinsdorf. It's brutal.

Worst case scenario, I think they'll add underwhelming depth options to the RF mix and rotation. Something like Joc and Greinke on 1 year deals wouldn't surprise me at all.
