That seems like a no brainer to me, but if the Sox were interested, wouldn't he have been in the Lynn/Kelly trade?

I'm a huge fan of European soccer, but I wouldn't want relegation coming to US sports. Cheering for a soccer team that's in the relegation mix or goes down is miserable. That's the only thing that could make being a White Sox fan less enjoyable.

Why not try to find another Santos/Middleton instead of wasting a roster spot on 38 year old Bryan Shaw?

If the plan is to slash payroll while attempting to compete, this team needs viable big leaguers who are playing for cheap. Trading Burger doesn't make sense for a variety of reasons

Burger's raw power is incredible. The ball just explodes off his bat.

He wasn't willing to sign an extension for significantly below market value, therefore the Sox weren't interested. Good luck filling out a viable rotation in 2024 and beyond without Lucas in it. Not getting an extension done with him will be a huge mistake.

Player development is the biggest inefficiency in baseball right now

Cease hasn't missed a turn through the rotation since debuting in the majors. We complain about injuries all of the time, but Cease is as dependable as they come. For that reason alone don't think WAR overrates him.

I would guess there are plenty in the Sox front office who don't believe that, but if Jerry won't green light another rebuild, what's the difference?
