Historically this will be a slightly below average season with historically low expectations. I think they can avoid 100 losses.

They won't beat themselves and don't have anyone on the roster who has been arrested for that.

They may avoid 100 losses, but not many fans will know about it. Fans have forgotten spring training has started. I've never seen people this checked out, there isn't even false hope.

  2. It's sad, but at this point none of this matters. We don't trade for high impact proven talent and won't spend even 100 million on a quality free agent. Feels like there is no hope to be a consistent winner and like we are wasting our time on this organization.

not to change the subject, but the bears are a bunch of stiffs too. so it's

    not just the sox.

Bears, Bulls, Hawks, Illini, and of course, the Cubs. All choke hard when it counts or comes down to it.

What good is holding onto Robert when there are literally no supporting pieces around him? Are we aspiring to be a 70-win team in 2024 or something?

Because in 3 years you hope to be really good? And you have to have someone on your team that is really good.

Honestly, there is no path to compete next year.  And as such, I’m going to outline my “do the right thing” plan which is entirely focused on being good again by 2027.  High-level, this means punting the 2024 season (despite the lack of draft pick upside) and then using 2025 as a transition year for development.

At a conceptual level, I will avoid calling up my big three positional prospects (Montgomery, Ramos, & Quero) until 2025.  It just doesn’t make sense to burn any service time this year and I’d rather have them all hit in a more condensed window.  The SP & RP pitching prospects in the upper minors are a completely different story though.  Pitching is simply too volatile and injuries can happen at any time, so whenever those guys are ready for a shot they should get one.

So beyond that one guiding principle, here are the rest of my strategic priorities for the off-season:

    1. Trade Dylan Cease if a quality offer is there, otherwise hold to deadline
    2. Only sign free agents to one year deals unless they are young and/or are greatly underrated by the market (team options are obviously ok)
    3. With rental free agents, prioritize ceiling over floor and hope those who actually work out can be flipped at the deadline for something of value
    4. Explore trades for Moncada & Eloy, but only deal them if it makes sense
    5. Leverage our open 40 man roster and acquire players with upside who may fall victim of being in stronger orgs with no space (Rule 5 as well)
    6. Once they are ready, prioritize playing time for our B / C tier prospects over any low ceiling vets (such as Sosa, Rodriguez, Colas, Lee, etc.)

I still need to work through the specific names, but ultimately it’s all going to look very ugly for the 2024 season.  The most important thing is to admit defeat and acknowledge there is no hope for next year.  Only by doing that, can you identify the moves needed to right the ship by 2026.

Good luck having a fanbase doing this. We couldn't make a rebuild work when the stars aligned for us with trade chips, big spenders being out on Harper/Machado, weak division, added playoff teams, and Robert in his prime. The truth is the Cubs may steal half of our fan base if not more. Sox fans are really done this time.

I feel like the Shields trade had KW’s fingerprints on it. Like the LaRussa signing, it doesn’t go with the rest of the moves Hahn made. Shields seems like the kind of guy Kenny had one of his crushes on who was destined to one day join the team.

Not sticking up for Hahn…it was his time to get canned, but I don’t think he was ever fully in control.

Oh, and the Sox still haven’t signed a prime free agent in forever.

Hahn already took accountability for the Shields trade.

Yeah, very unsure as to what herb makes one qualified for these roles. Getz worked his way up through the system same as others. You can argue with his results and etc and think he's not deserving, but not sure how a lawyer with no baseball knowledge or background beyond contracts is more deserving or qualified than a former big leaguer who worked in the scouting space.

The WORST thing about chris Getz, ironically enough, is he's tied to Rick Hahn.

I think what he means is that Hahn had some experience working with the FO and hadn't been a failure yet. Chris Getz has failed in his role for player development.

For those fans of the TV show Succession, who are the characters here?

You know JR is Logan Roy, who are the rest?

Getz, LaRussa, Moore, Ozzie, Grifol, Nightingale, etc..😄

As I said before, Hahn is for sure Tom.

Yup, Hahn’s media campaign is out in full force.  Dude accomplished nothing in 11 years, but somehow he was the victim of a messy leadership trio for his entire tenure.  Not sure why people are buying it.

We aren't. Hahn definitely got screwed in some regards, but that is also why he sucks. He is a company man pushover that couldn't put together a competent roster to save his life. Even with things going right, our roster wasn't championship caliber. too many one dimensional players and too much money tied into the bullpen.

I think Rick Hahn deserved to get fired.

However, I feel bad for him. He seemed to be underminded by his bosses all of the time.

    Didnt want to Hire Larussa

Wanted to Pay Bryce Harper to come here

Had the trade to the Marlins axed of sending TA to Marlins. Kenny stepped in and swapped out with Burger at the last minute.

Even if you are correct, he still did a lot more terrible than good. Pedro Grifol was hired after TLR. Not to mention TLR actually had success with us compared to the mess we are in now. Harper was never an option for us, so Hahn wanting him meant nothing. You still have to build a team with what you got and he failed at that.

  11. This is so dumb. Why should a player risk their health and millions because TAss squared up on someone and got clapped? I would only defend a teammate with hands if they were in real danger or they were getting jumped. Outside of that, I'm just trying to break the fight up to prevent people from getting knocked out.
