I think this is a bit crazy. Certainly TA is an amazing success story, but Yoan was in AA and coming off a disastrous mlb stint. Eloy was in A ball. Robert was 19 playing in a watered down Cuban League. And they all made it and have all been successful hitters.

No matter how polished you think Vaughn and Madrigal are, they made it to the bigs and Vaughn did so whilst being developed with no minor leagues.

And add to that, Engel was a bad college hitter drafted in the 20th round who made it to the bigs and has become a productive player. Mendick was a teens mlb pick now an mlb player. Even Leury, he was a defense first, nothing offensive player that was transformed into an MLB depth piece when used right.

Jake Burger doing what he's doing in AAA makes him now one of the better batters selected in the last 20 picks of the first round in 2017. Granted Nick Pratto has been pretty good in AA now, and that Evan White 28 wRC+ looks sexy.

Yoan was the top prospect in baseball and eloy was a top20 prospect when they got him, certainly neither was a raw prospect and both posted a 900 ops in their last non sox Milb season.

I definitely feel better when the sox get more polished prospects.

The white sox did a hell of a lot more to develop Yoan Moncada than the Red Sox did

I think unless there is a major fall, the sox will take Adrian Del Castillo. There is a familiarity with him as they drafted him previously in the 36th round and have taken Collins out of the same program; Grandal is from there as well. Sox have proven track record of taking questionable defensive catchers and spinning them into serviceable and beyond (Flowers, Phegley, Stewart, Narváez, and Collins).

Thanks.

Any intel on the Sox with prep pitchers or is it primarily bats at this point? Any chance there is interest in Solomento? Other publications have mentioned helium with him.

I've heard a couple prep pitcher names in the later rounds but not a lot on 1st round guys.  I think they'll take a college arm if one falls to them but it looks like their focus at the top is on HS hitters with power.

22. White Sox: Jud Fabian, OF, Florida
Fabian might be the toughest guy to place now as he righted the ship for a while, then had a very rough weekend against Arkansas (1-for-11, 9 strikeouts) and didn’t do much in conference tournament play, but the tools are still legit.

If like me, you wanted to know more about the draft prospects Harold mentioned:

Quote

Thatcher Hurd

Mira Costa HS, Manhattan Beach, Calif.RHP

Ht: 6-4 | Wt: 205 | B-T: R-R
Commit/Drafted: UCLA
Age At Draft: 18.6

Preseason Report: Listed at 6-foot-4, 205 pounds, Hurd has a lot of starter qualities that include his frame and a solid four-pitch mix. He sits with an 89-90 mph fastball that has been up to 92 and should continue to tick up as he fills out his frame. On top of that Hurd has shown a slider in the 78-80 mph range that has looked nasty on occasion and has potential to be a plus secondary. He’s also shown an average changeup and a curveball that bode well for his future chances to start. Hurd is committed to UCLA.

Quote

Isaiah Thomas

Vanderbilt OF

Ht: 6-2 | Wt: 190 | B-T: R-R
Commit/Drafted: Rockies '18 (39)
Age At Draft: 21.3

Preseason Report: Thomas has had exciting tools going back to his high school days at Benjamin High in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla. Scouts have wondered about the playability of those tools, however, as he’s had contact questions that still linger now in his third season with Vanderbilt. Thomas had a very impressive batting line in 2019, hitting .368/.405/.684 with three home runs in 21 games, but struggled out of the gate in 2020. He strikes out at a decent rate (21.8%) and rarely walks (3.6%), but he has the tools to be an impact player with improvement from his bat. He’s at least an above-average runner with 55-grade arm strength that should allow him a chance to play center or fit in right field if he can’t stick in the middle. After that he has plus raw power out of a lean, 6-foot-2, 190-pound frame. If Thomas hits, his tools fit with players at near the top of the draft class, so he’s a player to watch next spring on a loaded Vanderbilt team.

Quote

Nathan Hickey

Florida C

Ht: 6-0 | Wt: 205 | B-T: L-R
Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age At Draft: 21.6

Preseason Report: Draft-eligible in just his second year at Florida, Hickey was a well-known high school prospect who played on the same team as Reds 2019 third-rounder Tyler Callihan. He was seen as an offensive-first backstop who needed to work to stick behind the plate and that remains his profile today. Hickey got off to a strong start with the bat in the shortened 2020 season, hitting .311/.439/.622 with four home runs in 15 games. That line came with a 26.3 strikeout percentage, but Hickey also drew walks in 17.5% of his plate appearances. He has solid hitting ability that comes with impressive raw power. Defensively, he’s functional behind the plate with solid hands, but his arm strength is only serviceable with a fringy exchange and release. He should get time at both corners and DH with Florida next spring, but if he can stick behind the plate at the next level, Hickey’s bat will be all the more impressive.

Quote

Chad Patrick

Purdue Northwest (Ind.)RHP

Ht: 6-1 | Wt: 205 | B-T: R-R
Commit/Drafted: Never Drafted
Age At Draft: 22.9

May Report: Patrick pairs advanced pitching ability with a three-pitch mix that includes a fastball in the 90-95 mph range, a downer curveball and a solid changeup. He repeats his delivery and can locate his fastball to both sides of the plate. He posted a 1.89 ERA through his first eight starts and 57 innings of the season, with 86 strikeouts to just eight walks.

Agreed.  I think this is going to be a three player draft for them.  I think they're going to try and push a couple dudes down to the 2nd and 3rd rounds and then grab money savers from 4-10.

Yeah I agree with this. It's the Mike Shirley way

If those were first round picks, that would be an unimpressive track record.  Collins was a first round pick and is, as of now, a bust.
