Hats off for a tremendous career! Huge factor in 3 cups.

How does his contract work now and what does this mean for the cap?

So they have a few options.

But basically, Seabrook will remain on LTIR for the rest of his contract. His salary and cap hit stay on the books in the offseason. The Hawks will need to be under or at the 81.5 million dollar salary cap. However, once the season starts, Seabrook will be placed on LTIR and that cap hit comes off the books for the season, which means the Hawks could acquire a player to fit that salary window. But once the season ends......that Seabrook contract is back on the books until Day 1 of the NEXT season. That's why just acquiring another long term, expensive piece isn't that easy.

Seattle and the expansion draft could be their shot to get them to take the Seabrook deal if they aren't planning on competing for a few years, but the Hawks would have to send over a fairly nice package for Seattle to accept.

Hope that helps a little bit.

It seems like the Hawks were just stockpiling talent for three or four years down the road. Or am I misreading their moves?

That's basically it, Tex. They had a bunch of guys brought in on one year deals, so it made sense and was probably always the plan to trade those guys. I think Stan did a pretty decent job acquiring a decent collection of additional draft picks, and a few younger lottery tickets. Very good chance none of the guys in the "incoming" category in the above tweet ever amount to anything.....but the Hawks also didn't have any players that would fetch a huge return.

Stan doing nothing at the deadline would have been a huge mistake.

Thanks. From a distance it seems like the franchise is solidly run.

There are members of the 2010 front office and coaching staff in ~ 10 different organizations. If they really go after people who knew and did nothing, there could be ramifications across the league. Marc Bergevin was in the Hawks front office that year, and his team is in the SCF. Cheveldayoff, (WPG GM) Quenneville, and there was a guy who was under McDonough (Jay Blunk?) who left to take a position with the Kraken.

This scandal could rock the NHL.

Keep in mind this is the same time Bowman's racist minor league coach in Rockford was calling their prospect the n word. Bowman and McDonough swept this abuse under the rug by first demoting Akim Aliu, than dumping him in the offseason to placate their racist piece of shit coach Bill Peters. The Blackhawks will defend their racist logo to the death, but not their players from sexual and racist assaults. A Wirtz is a Wirtz is a Wirtz.

Stan Bowman whose sole qualification is pappy Scotty's sperm, yet another disgraceful crony hire in this city.

GFY Blackhawks, and USA Hockey, if you don't shitcan Stan Bowman.
