There’s no chance that Musgrove would cost Madrigal.

And Cherington wants prospects not MLB players anyway.

Stiever should be the headliner and throw in a few lower pieces but none of Kelley, Crochet, Dalquist or Thompson (or Kopech, obviously).

I'm hesitant to throw in Rutherford as it sounds like he made some real strides power wise according to something I read.

I was going to say something similar... Musgrove is a number 5 type around replacement level. Nothingburger trade value with many similar FA options.

This is where you rely on fWAR over bWAR for pitcher evaluation. fWAR uses FIP as their basis for pitcher's WAR while BR uses runs allowed. The former provides a better indicator than the latter.

Musgrove since becomes a full time starter 3 years ago:

2018 2.2 WAR / 19 GS

2019 3.3 WAR / 31 GS

2020 1 WAR/ 8 GS

If you go with Statcast metrics, his xERA also suggests a pretty good pitcher. All in all, I think He's a a decent #3 starter who will give you 3-3.5 WAR in a full season, will cost somewhere around $8M over the next two years.

I am not a Madrigal hater though, so I wouldn't give up Madrigal for him. Any combination of Stiever, Adolfo, Collins, Rutherford would be fine by me.

Musgrove ist certainly way better than replacement level, last 3 years he was 2.2, 3 3 and 1 (2.7 full season) war which makes him a 3/4.

However I wouldn't want to give up madrigal either for him as it would be similar player quality but only a third of the control years.

I wasn’t looking at fWar and happily stand corrected.
