Ray is going to turn into a pretty significant bust by the end of his deal, it seems.

Ha yea, and Kikuchi is holding his own in Toronto.

The Mariners are a knockoff version of the White Sox. I've been saying that for a decade now. They have many of the same issues with player development, scouting, resource allocation and so on. Except the Mariners are just worse at it all then the Sox even.

Rodriguez obviously looks legit.  JP Crawford looks so much better, as well.

But yeah, similar success since the late 90s early 2000s for both, then a wasteland up until recently for Sox.

Long playoff droughts.

All things considered, fairly similar payrolls...although Seattle has run some fairly large ones over the last twenty years despite disappointing results.

Seattle has their own market, one of the hippest/trendiest areas of the US with tons of corporate sponsorship possible and a better stadium experience overall, but not the massive advantage it was 15 or so years ago for the M's.

Man, we all wanted that Nightengale "Sox looking at players like Ray and Semien" tweet to come true.

The server that hosts SoxTalk would have gained sentience and jumped off a cliff with how those two are performing.

All I know is every year in AZ he would usually go 4-5-6 innings, pile up a ton of innings/pitches, walks and numerous K's but he always seemed like more of a Javy V. guy with great stuff but middling results.

Lots of stress and strain on the pen.

Saw this with Ray from a mile away.

@Chisoxfn, I would like to retroactively apologize for the setup of this post.

1-5 with three strikeouts in his AAA return last night. Maybe he just sucks.

It happens more often than not.  Not many professional players have made it out of Wisconsin.  In the last 20-30 years, Brad Radke arguably the best.

Bob Wickman, Jordan Zimmermann and Rays pitcher JP Freyereisen three more.

he's broken. Rocking a 52% K rate down in Tacoma. Slash line of 222/276/407. 455 BABIP hiding what the K rate eventually won't. He is flailing up there. This is beyond a slump this is a guy that has taken a step back in true talent level.  We'll see where he's at in late August. Still only his age 22  year.

Showing him off for a trade?

Not much time left for that.  Obviously Rodriguez injury looks pretty fortuitous for Jared.

They have been playing musical chairs with their lineup but have solid defense, enough pitching and that amazing one run luck this year as well as last.  Led MLB last year and second at 24-13 this year to the Astros at 18-9.
