I haven't been this excited about a player in a long time but what hes doing is absolutely incredible. 33 home runs before the break, on pace for 60+. You used to be able to beat him inside pretty reliably when he was in the NPB -- it had the classic appearance of a swing that was too long/grooved but worked because he was so athletic. I noticed that when we played the Angels to begin the season we kept throwing high and in fastballs to Ohtani and he was pretty quiet until Cease missed his spot on a fastball and Ohtani hit it 460 feet. Yeah, in retrospect, the analysts that were highest on Ohtani when he was posted all said something along the lines of "no one will outwork this kid, he has superhuman discipline and focus, he will do everything he can to reach his potential," and that seems to have been the X factor.
