his ability to cheat and stay back on fastballs is otherworldly

It's insane how much stronger and faster his bat got after he started training in the US. You used to be able to beat him inside pretty reliably when he was in the NPB -- it had the classic appearance of a swing that was too long/grooved but worked because he was so athletic. I don't think many people really realized that this much potential was in there.

I noticed that when we played the Angels to begin the season we kept throwing high and in fastballs to Ohtani and he was pretty quiet until Cease missed his spot on a fastball and Ohtani hit it 460 feet. Now he's hitting high velocity fastballs up and in for dingers. It's like he patched the hole in his swing in a matter of months.

Man is having one of, if not the, greatest seasons of all time.

Stephen A. Smith:

Can you imagine what he would say if someone had said that player X cant be the face of a league because of their race...

In a just society this is a career killing segment.

Stephen A Smith is paid to pay inflammatory bullshit. Now his colleague Passan will be going on his show to Call him dumb.

This is all just outrage theatre that ESPN is absolutely intentionally manufacturing.

Yeah, in retrospect, the analysts that were highest on Ohtani when he was posted all said something along the lines of "no one will outwork this kid, he has superhuman discipline and focus, he will do everything he can to reach his potential," and that seems to have been the X factor.

Disney wants no part of manufactured racism. The only reason they may avoid doing something is because of the whole Rachel Nichols fiasco.

They did fire the writer of the infamous "chink in the armor" headline about Jeremy Lin. Obviously that guy didn't make the money (or bring in the money) that Smith does, but we also live in a time of elevated awareness around racism against Asians ... and Smith was real, real blatant.

Stephen A Smith needs to be canned. People have gotten fired for less.

You got that right.  The remark is blatantly racist, and it was intentional.  If they don't fire him, they should at least suspend him.  Smith has said outrageous things before, but he hit a new level here.  However, he is probably getting pats on the back from his brethren.  ESPN loves to play with the political football, however, with their unique kind of double standard.

Just to keep my comments here on baseball, the dude (Ohtani) is one helluva player.
