Will also accept this answer.

I applaud the Royals players for making this decision. It's their own personal decision that has no affect on others and comments like the one you shared are an example of a bullying culture that puts public pressure on people take an injection that they may not feel comfortable taking.

Given that 10 out of 26 players didn’t get vaccinated, it really doesn’t seem like the “bullying culture” you suggest had any impact.

But that works both ways. Given what I posted earlier with the Royals hosting an insanely weird “anti-pornography” seminar for the entire organization, along with Dayton Moore and Mike Matheny going out of there way to tell the world how important their faith is, there seems to be a trend with how the Royals conduct their business and what they believe in. Given that thus far the Royals have far and away the most players on a single team that have to go on the restricted list…it’s not a very far leap to take that the organization has pushed their views on their players.

Seems like a pretty big leap there. Not seeing how faith and vaccination are correlated.

Maybe they left it up to their players to decide for themselves without pressure.

I’d be able to buy that more if they didn’t have a mandatory meeting set by the President of the team to discuss how masterbation and pornography lead to domestic abuse of women.

These aren’t kids, they are adults. Why not let them make their own decisions as adults, why pressure them?

Again, you can’t have it both ways.

So what are you suggesting? They pressured their players to not get vaccinated?

Interesting how the antivax players don't have an issue trusting medical experts when their elbows blow out or they pull a hammy.

It's risk/reward.

Get surgery to repair elbow and potentially help you earn millions of dollars.

Or get vaccine that can prevent, what exactly? A week of being knocked on your ass with flu symptoms. Oh wait, that still happens even to the vaxxed.

The narrative that if you didn't get a covid vaccine, automatically means you are anti-science and aren't allowed to trust medicine in any capacity is such a lazy take.

Unless you're in the microscopic percentage of the population who is too immunocompromised to receive the vaccine, there is no "reward" for anyone not to get the shot. Anti vax talking points like this being normalized and treated as a personal choice issue rather than a public health one is a huge part of the reason why the virus is yet to be contained.

I'll try this again with you.

  • We have documented history that in the last 5 years, the Royals held an organizational seminar with players to discuss the negative effects of masturbation and pornography. I don't recall another example of that in professional sports, but anti-masturbation seminars also aren't a hobby of mine, so maybe I missed others that took place.
  • Dayton Moore, President of the Royals, is quote " Very public with his faith, openly sharing his adherence to Christianity, and how it impacts his life." Mike Matheny, current manager of the Royals, was quoted as saying "First, my faith has been clear and open. Every year at spring training I explain to my guys I stand for certain things as a follower of Christ." Now, being a Christian is far from a crime, and good for Dayton Moore and Mike Matheny for being confident in what they believe in. Go nuts. Don't have any issue with that.
  • I do believe however given the importance of their religion to Moore and Mathey, probably the two biggest decision makers in that organization, it's not a random happenstance that their organization would hold a seminar on the detrimental effects of pornography to professional baseball players.
  • According to Pew in 2021: "A large majority of Republicans identify as Christians, substantially higher than the share of Democrats who are Christians. Conversely, Democrats are much more likely than Republicans to be religiously unaffiliated – describing themselves as atheists, agnostics or “nothing in particular” when asked about their religion." Additionally, "Religiously unaffiliated voters make up 38% of Democratic voters. This has roughly doubled since 2008, when this group made up 18% of Democrats. Over this period, the share of Democratic voters who are Christians has declined from 74% to 52%. White Christians continue to make up a large majority of Republican voters. White evangelical Protestants are about a third (32%) of Republican voters, unchanged from 2008. However, the shares who are white non-evangelical Protestants (22% in 2008 vs. 16% today) and white Catholics (18% vs. 15%) have decreased." Link the findings here: Link Here
  • We then jump to the topic at hand, vaccines. According to Brookings in October of 2021, Of Americans surveyed from Sept. 13-22, 72% of adults 18 and older had been vaccinated, including 71% of white Americans, 70% of Black Americans, and 73% of Hispanics. Contrast these converging figures with disparities based on politics: 90% of Democrats had been vaccinated, compared with 68% of Independents and just 58% of Republicans." Link here

So...given that the Kansas City Royals have an incredibly high number of players that will now appear on the restricted list because they are unvaccinated, more than any other team thus far this season...Yes, I do believe the organization played a role in or had an influence in player decision making process...something you are very clearly against.

Are you suggesting there are absolutely zero potential side effects? That's simply a complete denial of reality if that's what you're saying.

Not reading all this lol. I'm sure it's great stuff though.

I'll just end my vaccine conversation so this thread can get back to baseball.

If the O's can get this hot, it is bound to happen to the Sox at some point, right? Right???

Compare side effects from the vaccine to the effects of covid 19 if you're unvaccinated and then get back to me.

Amazing reply. Bring facts and provide a reply with actual substance, and you bail.

I’m SHOCKED that would happen. Shocked!

Good thing the Royals suck so nobody gives a shit that the 10 people who decided not to get vaccinated are gonna cost their team games in Toronto. Benintendi is also killing his own trade value cause Toronto was interested in acquiring him and they clearly can't unless he gets vaccinated. Teams in the AL East or teams with playoff aspirations are all gonna have to think about whether or not he can even play in a playoff series if they end up playing the Jays.

Willing to discuss with you offline if you'd like. Really don't want to derail the thread with statistics about Christians, Republicans, democrats, and vaccines.

Their personal decisions are gonna make their teammates play 10 players short for 3 games. It's not only selfish from a public health perspective but also from a sports and team aspect perspective.

They're a team of grown men. I guarantee that clubhouse supports each and every player making their own decision.
