My take is the Sox have to win at least 8 of the next 13 (through the post All Star Cleveland series) to be possible buyers at the deadline.

July (8 Home & 10 Road)

  • Detroit (1 Home)
  • Cleveland (4 Road *)
  • Minnesota (4 Road)
  • Four Days Off - Except for Tim & TBD?
  • Cleveland (4 Home *)
  • Colorado (2 Road)
  • Oakland (3 Home)

August (16 Home & 15 Road)

  • Kansas City (3 Home) - MLB Trade Deadline Before Game 2 of 3.
  • Texas (4 Road)
  • Kansas City (4 Road *)
  • Detroit (3 Home)
  • Houston (4 Home)
  • Cleveland (3 Road)
  • Kansas City (1 Road)
  • Baltimore (3 Road)
  • Arizona (3 Home)
  • Kansas City (3 Home)

September (11 Home & 13 Road)

  • Minnesota (3 Home)
  • Seattle (3 Road)
  • Oakland (4 Road)
  • Colorado (2 Home)
  • Detroit (3 Road)
  • Cleveland (3 Home)
  • Detroit (3 Home)
  • Minnesota (3 Road)

October (3 Home & 3 Road)

  • San Diego (3 Road)
  • Minnesota (3 Home)

Red = Teams currently under .500 (21 Home Games & 21 Away Games)

* - Includes 1 Doubleheader

Feels like the season starts now.  I think the schedule bodes well in the second half and our starting pitching is about to go on a long streak of quality starts and low era.  I'm marking today as the turning point in the season.

We have just lost 2 out of 3 to Detroit at home so I'm not quite sure where your optimism about the schedule comes from, it might be on paper a good 2nd half schedule but on the field this Sox team are not performing anywhere near as good as on paper they should and have shown against Detroit and previously against Baltimore that they are just as capable of losing to poor teams as well as good teams.

That said IF they can get a good run of wins before the ASB the Central Division is eminently winnable IF they can find any consistency after the break.

Our current 12-16 record against the Central would need to dramatically improve if the Sox have any chance 2nd half of the season. And the 1-4 and 1-5 record against Minnesota and Cleveland.

I thought I had seen at least two "turning points" in the season. I saw hope when they almost overcame a 6-0 lead in the ninth inning against the Angels. I also thought that when they played well against the Yankees in New York. There have been no turning points. They need to play consistently, and they have not shown they can do that yet. They should win the division, but that doesn't mean they will.
