This group of players has quit and is not playing hard anymore

Can you blame them? A manager they liked got fired and replaced with a 77 year old alcoholic. When they won 93 games despite him, their front office gave their worst player a 3 year deal, traded for an outfielder who can't hit RHP and isn't that good in the outfield, and signed a reliever who was injured. The hitters are being coached by someone who is coaching them counter to their natural talents, and their training staff can't keep them healthy. Why should they give 100% when nobody else in the organization is?

Well Detroit has been completely out of the race for months and they’re still playing hard enough to kick these losers asses. So I do think it’s fair to ask for a higher level of commitment, effort, and dignity than this.

There’s always a difference between what you’ve heard and what’s firm enough to report. But I consulted with Ken on that piece. We’ve both heard about the hitting coaches not seeing eye to eye with TLR on plate approach. The don’t run hard edict was TLR going out on his own and didn’t sit well with others. The 1-2 intentional walks aren’t agreed with by anyone in the org, especially not the pitching coach who thinks count leverage is about the most important things in baseball. Leury basically disappeared out of the lineup once TLR stepped away. The starting catcher has been grousing about playing time all year

Coaches trying to save their ass by throwing Tony under the bus. They still need to be gone.

They could have won 100 but Aug. 2021 is when they stopped playing hard or manager tries to win games.

Interesting how Leury disappeared from the lineup even though he was given a three year deal, which was mostly because of the HR against Houston last year. And that starting catcher is among the players who can f*** off. Hit some home runs and get some extra base hits instead of trying to just be the Greek God of Walks. Don’t blame your health on it either.

I just want him to come clean with the reason that move was made. They had a bad asset they needed to move and it wasn’t going to happen at the deadline.

They made it easy on me - I was planning on heading down and staying in San Diego for the final series of the season and just cancelled my hotel.  Not going to waste my money on a hotel to go down and watch this squad play (nor do I want my little league kids watching this team play baseball the way it does). 

I personally am glad they are melting down at the end - ownership better be seeing this and completely clean house.  I want to see a full change - including the bringing in of a complete outside, highly respective person to take over the organization and give it a top to bottom clense. 

I don't expect it to happen - but it needs to happen.  I think with a really good front office person who can give that clens, we could see really great things happen and fast with this franchise.  

The inward, extremely loyal nature of this franchise is completely getting in the way. I'm not even going to mention the money cause it really isn't about the money - except for their inability to spend on deep analytics departments and put more money in scouting. Go cheap on the roster by $5M and ensure you have a top notch front office, coaching staff, scouting and developmental programs in place (and throughout the minors and into the majors). That $5M is worth 100 Leury Garcia's.

Honestly - I am happy they are fading now.  Gets rid of Hanh / Kw's excuse.  They need a full restart when it comes to coaches and front office. Get rid of the inwardly focused nature of this franchise. They wouldn't know what a good franchise was if it hit them in the head.  They are so past the times and completely oblivious to what real franchises do, including how they spend their money and what true talent development and analytics looks like. 

They are 10 years behind in the times and that is the legit truth.

As much as I have come to expect anything out of this org - there is zero chance Tony is back.  I mean oh my goodness if he is back. Quite frankly - I am really really interested to see what happens over the next few weeks.  

I think Nigtengale had said at different times - if the Sox didn't win, it wasn't just Tony that would be the fall guy and now I'm really really interested to see what happens. If nothing else - Tony can go down as health related and than JR can do TLR a solid by dumping Hahn (with KW retiring) and laying the blame on Hanh.

I could care less - as I will support whatever it takes for there to be a changing of the guard in Chicago - top to  bottom.  Of course they'll follow it up by hiring Getz, which he could be the next Theo himself but if whomever they hire is from this org - I literally want nothing to do with them by default.

KW leaving would be a great time to sell the team, hopefully to someone who wants to win. God i would love to watch the old guard in the FO get fired and replaced with analytical types stolen from the Guardians, Rays, Dodgers, and other teams of that ilk. I wish i could be a fly on that wall.
