The individuals are presented in alphabetical order.
  1. Brad Ausmus, Athletics bench coach. ...
  2. Joe Espada, Astros bench coach. ...
  3. Matt Quatraro, Rays bench coach. ...
  4. Mike Scioscia, Team USA manager. ...
  5. Rob Thomson, Phillies interim manager. ...
  6. Dusty Wathan, Phillies third base coach.  Son of John.
Top candidates when they were pushing Girardi out in Philly...would personally prefer Bochy to Scioscia/Maddon.  Have already talked about Harris Beltran Alomar Jr.

Fwiw, Bob Melvin has been a steadying presence in SD, quite similar to Bruce B.

Francona or Micah Hyde are manager of the year in the AL, Mariners #3.

Look to Guardians, Rays, Brewers staffs.

I could care less who our manager is to be honest.

After this last experience, I do think managers matter. I don’t like Tony. Couldn’t stand him his first tour with the team. The DUI to me was just another opportunity for an out the Sox had realizing this idea was bad. Just listen to Tony when he was hired and watch an old clip when he was with the Cardinals, A’s and White Sox in the 80s. It’s night and day.  These players had basically the equivalent of a substitute teacher, like when we all were kids, as a full time manager.

While I will not doubt Tony has a pacemaker, and it may have had some issues, I do think there is more to this story than that. There are hundreds of thousands of people with pacemakers. They aren’t told to immediately quit their job, but it’s still OK to sort of do your job, like Tony was watching games and consulting with Cairo.

But I will take it. 2 years probably wasted. At least one for sure. Get someone who actually doesn’t think results are too easy.

I am no TLR fan, but wish him comfort and better health.

In any case TLR was never the root problem. He was the consequence.

He was definitely one of the root problems. I still can’t understand how astonishingly bad his in-game decisions were.

I don’t wish him ill health, either, but good riddance.

These last two years will make a great book.

Read the fucking fine print in Bob’s article:

La Russa listened, and will walk away. He likely will stay in the White Sox organization as a special assistant, but those long, demanding and stressful days are over.

Fucking shitshow.

Yeah, but only if they actually hire a competent replacement.

I’m savouring the endorphin rush and ignoring the perils that might be around the corner.  They can’t f*** up a hire as bad again, right?  Right?

While it obviously makes a difference (as we clearly saw with this incredible failure) the bigger point is accurate. None of this matters with the FO in place.

They are going to hire an analytics affluent manager? Cool. Whose analytics?

I would take a look at Ron Washington.  He had a rough ending in Texas but is beloved in Atlanta.  He us a defense guru as well.  We know this team needs that.

Jesus, Ron Washington is 70 and hasn't managed in 8 years. Let's try for something better than that.

If he wants a job fixing the defense, welcome aboard.  But please no more managers past retirement age.

I get the sentiment but let’s not act like he’s been out like TLR. He’s been going around the league turning around team defenses. He’s  at least shown he’s the best in the game still as a defensive skills teacher.
