Where will Eloy play in 23?

What Eloy needs to realize is, even though he hates DH'ing, it's idiotic to put him anywhere else. Literally the only value he provides is with his bat, and it's huge value. Putting him in LF makes the team worse defensively, gives him greater risk for injury which diminishes not only the value he brings to the team, but his future earnings as well. Someone needs to slap him and make him realize that he needs to learn to like DH'ing, otherwise he isn't going to have much of a career in this league.

And Lord knows this team needs to get more speed and a better glove in both corner outfield spots.

Hopefully DH 125 games, LF 25 games.  Anything less than 80% of the DH would be a terrible, terrible mistake.  He's a DH.  Time for him to accept it AND, perhaps more importantly, for the org to stop caring about Eloy's thoughts on the matter.

You know what I hate? Terrible defense in LF, arguably one of the easiest positions to play.

You know what I hate?  Seeing all of Eloy’s offensive potential go to waste sitting on the IL.  Sorry Eloy, but DH is your future if you want a long and healthy playing career.

Yordan Alvarez seems to have no issue mostly DHing. And he's the same age as Eloy. He probably would have DH'd even more the past couple years if it wasn't for having Brantley and then having both Gurriel and Mancini most of the second half in 2022.

Alvarez also was actually a non-terrible OF this year in part thanks to a strong throwing arm. He was -8 on the statcast OAA Outs above average, but he was a positive 6.7 on UZR and a +5 on DRS, in 56 games in LF, with that positive performance largely driven by his arm so maybe the difference in the stats is that OAA isn't taking throwing into account for that number. Over a full season those are pretty good fielding numbers for a LF. Remember that series against Cleveland where they just said "screw it, Eloy is in LF, so every ball that is hit anywhere in LF is a double because he can't throw anyone out and he can't run to get the ball?" Houston doesn't have that problem with Alvarez.

They don't have a problem of him being a bad OF but my point still remains that he doesn't seem to have a problem with mostly being a DH.

LF in Houston is probably the smallest LF in baseball.  If you are going to play an awful LF with no range, that is a great place to do it.  Plus those guys are all really good at knowing the home town bounces and throwing out what would be doubles in any other park at 2B.

Eloy has stated emphatically that he does not want to strictly be a DH.   There are teams other than the WSox that will use a player like Eloy in the OF. Obviously not a direct comparison  but Judge is 6'7" and plays OF because he hits (at least during the regular season) .  Eloy  has trade value and would look good in a Yankee uniform if they decide to let Judge walk. So perhaps Eloy is a Yankee next season. I think after they got swept and Donaldson was so bad, they might also consider trading for Moncada.

If he didn't emphatically suck and emphatically hurt himself out there all of the time the organization might care.

Moncada would get destroyed by the media in NYC. If we think Sox fans criticize Yoan for being lazy or looking disinterested, wait till Yankees fans get to watch him all year.

From what I've seen Judge is a very capable outfielder. Talk now is the Dodgers may go after him and Betts said he'd move to second base.

That would be great because it means he stayed fit and played 150 games, which he hasn't managed in the last 2 seasons combined. If Eloy and Robert could both stay fit and play that many games, it would make a massive difference offensively; but Robert's 98 games this season is the most either has played in the last 2 seasons.

My 2023 White Sox OF: LF Luis Robert, CF Brandon Nimmo, RF Oscar Colas.

Or since Nimmo really won't be considered: LF Benintendi, CF Robert, RF Colas.

Do you think Colas will get RF straight out of Spring Training?

Here is the downside to trading Eloy and Moncada and relying on Colas to start in RF and Robert in CF:

Robert is"injury prone,",,,His  hand/wrist injuries seem related and if so, there  a risk of re-injury.

Colas might be the next Dayan Viciedo.  Looks like a tank in the videos.

Vaughn (another tank)  is the most over-hyped, over rated WSox player since Brian Anderson.

The return for Eloy and Moncada might be underwhelming.

Then be careful what you wish for trading core players.

Eloy might pump 40+ HR for the Yanks. Makes sense for them if they want to start replacing Judge's 62.

Moncada LH power might play well in Yankee stadium while Burger looks like he has his shoe laces tied together when fielding balls at third base.

Vaughn's 2022 season might prove to be the best of his career.

Sox need pitching. starters and bullpen. There are no injury proof players that will make a difference.

Brian Anderson wishes his first 2 seasons in the majors were as good as Vaughn's. Let's see how Vaughn holds up over a full year not playing out of position before talking about "how bad he is."
