From the Sun-Times story today (Saturday):

"Jake Burger has never played in the Sox outfield, but Grifol said that’s something the team has talked about a “little bit.” One concern Grifol acknowledged is Burger’s injury history, including a ruptured achilles tendon he suffered in 2018."

Nothing surprises me anymore.

What’s wrong with just making Moncada play second base?

90-95% of the time the switch occurs from middle infield to corners.

He doesn't have the range or lateral quickness and can't even imagine him on double play turns coming across bag and throwing back across his body.

Bad bad bad idea.

Very bad idea. Agreed. Sadly will have to platoon Burger in the DH/1B rotation cause our 3B is above average fielder and hitter in Moncada. Eloy is untradeable right now cause he's a walking injury so Eloy stays in outfield. Burger the 1B/DH thing.

He is much more athletic then Vaughn and Sheets.  Had we all not have to continually be put through 1B in the OF he makes some sense.

Vaughn has sucked for most of this season. His job should not be safe with the hole we are in currently. If only Eloy could play 1st base like the washed up corner outfielders and third basemen.

I thought for sure that Vaughn would have a solid season.  Sort of .280ish BA, OPS around .850 or so.  Still attainable.  One thing I have noticed is that he seems to get a lot of really shitty calls from Home Plate umpires.  He'll get better.

The Sox problem of "everybody's a DH" continues. I don't think Burger is an outfielder. Geez. Wake up Sox.

Rick Hahn added to the problem "everybody's a DH" when he missed that wake up call back in 2017 and picked Gavin Sheets with the 49th overall pick and then doubled down again in 2019 with the 3rd overall pick to select Andrew Vaughn...when we already had 1B/DH covered with Jose Abreu.

Is there any way to do that with the players originally signed/drafted by the Sox?

Essentially, Escobar, Bassitt, Semien, Tatis, Jr., Anderson, Devenski, Sale, Abreu, etc.

Q would have to be counted with the Mets or Yankees there.

With AV struggling maybe he and Sheets should be platooned at DH.
That frees up Burger to play first base which he should have no trouble handling. When Eloy comes back we are going to have to live with him in right field until Colas is truly ready, when that day comes I would try to trade Eloy, he can’t be counted on because of his history of injuries though I don’t blame him at all for the appendectomy he underwent.

Eloy is an elite bat while Vaughn is an average bat with average power.

Burger is starting to make a case for more at bats and those ABs should mainly come at 1B.

There may be teams with a solid second base player or prospect that might be interested in trading for Vaughn.

Include Steve Stone in a trade with AV to the Cubs.

(just kidding... but Stone is Vaughn's biggest fan. He told us AV was a good outfielder lst year and fawns at the speed of grounders that AV hits for outs and HIDP. Vaughn is something of a tank physically, like Burger only slower afoot I don't dislike him in the line-up, he is just redundant on the roster...surplusage)

I think trading Vaughn makes the best sense. I think he would still bring value. There are good teams out there who have the right people in place to get a player like Vaughn straightened out.

Since were not moving Moncada to 2B, and we can't afford to sit or platoon Burger, it makes total sense to play Burger at 1st and keep Eloy at DH, to assure he doesn't get injured as easily, by never letting him play in the OF.

I like Home town players for the WSox like KC 2nd basemen Massey from Palos Park.

Maybe Massey plus a strong pitching prospect for AV.

I love the home grown players too, but only if they are good. Massey is a 2nd baseman with bad numbers on a bad team.

Michael Massey

AVG OBP SLG OPS WAR
208 . 259 .300 .559  -0.5

The Sox not only do not want or need Massey, but they don't need any of the Royals' prospects in any trade. The Royals farm system is actually ranked worse than our pathetic Sox farm system at 29th. The Royals only have one prospect in the MLB top 100 and that is an OF at #62.

If Vaughn is going to be traded, then the Sox need to go to a WS contender looking for those extra few players at the deadline, that have an abundance of good prospects they can afford to give up. You definitely don't go to the Royals that are a worse organization than the Sox!

Plus the Royals will be sellers at the deadline just like we should be. The Sox are looking for buyers at the trade deadline.
