Rick Hahn says Chicago White Sox are NOT SELLING...yet | CHGO White Sox Podcast

Recommended Posts

This loser answered almost every question with a first word of "look".  Always be extremely skeptical of anyone who consistently begins an answer to a question with that word.  They are basically implying that you cannot see things for what they truly are. Despite his previous comments, Hahn truly does think he is some sort of king and the smartest guy in the room at all times. The rest of us are merely simple minded peasants who cannot see things that he can.

Politicians have been doing this for years.  All of them.

Is there any other team in baseball in a worse position than the White Sox? The minor league system is bare. The controlled assets on the main roster are either under performing or sunk costs which means if they do try to sell they will get diminished returns.

The payroll is seemingly maxed and the budget is on the way down based on a abysmal 2023 season. They wont ever do what it takes to sign a superstar. They wont hold anyone accountable and in the off chance Hahn is relieved of his duties they wont go outside of the organization to replace him and change the culture.

Where is the light at the end of the tunnel?

They should sell ASAP.

Only players whose contracts expire at the end of the year.  No way have Hahn & Co. done the necessary groundwork for a real selloff. That still leaves him Giolito to trade, and maybe Hahn can avoid effing that up.

New ownership is the light. And it will happen eventually. Just take care of yourself and hope to be around to see it.

With how bad this division is, I am not sure they will ever really fall far enough out of it to sell off anyways.

From the video posted above, unless Hahn is lying, it sure sounds like they believe in the group and aren't going to throw in the towel if they are within distance of the division.

They didn't do the necessary groundwork back in 2016 either and here we are...

Definition of insanity.

yeah he isn't saying anything new here, I feel like Sox fans are about to enter a level of baseball hell that we've yet to experience, I'm talking KC/Pittsburgh/Cincy-esque levels of frustration, continuous calls to the score/ESPN that are reminiscent of Berto last month

At least with KW, we never felt totally out of it in April, but it's coming

Starting pitching this deadline at a premium... as well as top closers, so White Sox could be in pretty decent shape since the majority of NL teams (especially) will remain in WC races.

Sox have at least three starting pitchers that could all go, along with pretty much anyone in their bullpen not named Crochet Santos and Hendriks...unless Liam can make a dramatic turnaround stuff-wise in the next two months.

Ohtani at the top of the market...obviously.

A.Nola and J.Urias unlikely to be moved, two of the other top remaining UFA pitchers.

Blake Snell could be dealt, along with Soto, if Padres drastically retool... as they will make only a fraction of this year's payments with Bally Sports reneging on $60 million per season media rights deal through the next decade.

Let's not fool ourselves. The only real guy with a lot of value at the moment is Cease. Gio is going to get paid, he has little surplus value. Same with Liam, who also unfortunately has a big flag over him with the cancer. We have a ton of average level relievers that won't get anything more than a C+ prospect. Maybe if you package Gio and Kelly and Liam you can get a top 100 in MLB type guy. Knowing our scouting and development it would probably be a Rutherford type that will flame out.

Cynical prediction: Hahn pulls off a trade for Ohtani.

Pro: we get a half season of Ohtani.

Con: what we get from Ohtani doesn't matter, as the team is so far out of it anyways. We give up any remaining valuable assets that we have left, and Ohtani leaves at the end of the season with no compensation in return, thus leaving us even further barren.

Graveman has pretty solid value.

Lynn, not so much.

Remains to be seen how desperate any team would be to add a character issue player like Clevinger.

Someone might believe Lopez will turn it around as a 6/7 inning guy or swingman... if he can go on a run for 6-8 weeks, Kelly can go to a genuine NL playoff contender, etc. Bummer almost has to get better just by sheer statistical probability. Lots of IFS IFS IFS at the moment.

Middleton could potentially provide you a B prospect or two C's.

Of course Gio and Anderson the names everyone most frequently mentioned.

Would be interesting to know how open they are to moving Cease or Kopech as well.

Not sure that Ohtani doesn't have White Sox on quite limited no trade list.

Shouldn't prevent us from thinking of the worst-case scenario so we can have reality suck a little less in comparison later.

Dude nobody is trading a B prospect (so like a backend type 150 type) for two months of a middle reliever. Lopez turning into a swingman? Come on man.

If you trade Anderson, which you probably should, you're signaling a white flag on the contention in ways trading relievers or Giolito would not. Would JR stand for that? I don't know, but it would be a pretty big indication we aren't planning on contending anytime soon.

Also, Anderson has been replacement level going on 100 games, like what exactly is his value even? I really can't emphasize enough: we have nothing to jumpstart a rebuild with trade wise.

Ohtani would come here and hit .225/.288/.393 with 2 dongs , all while toting a hefty 6.38 ERA the rest of the way.
