Nunez Jr. Went 1-3 with a HR, 2 BB, 1 SB and 1 RBI.

I responded in yesterday's thread but figured I'd post this here as well.

I wrote this about Nunez Jr. prior to the season...

Nunez Jr. is definitely someone you are not going to see on other lists.  He just signed with the Sox as a 16 year old out of the Dominican Republic.  Marco Paddy said they expect Nunez Jr. to get up to about 6'4" which gives him a ton of projectable power.  He has a smooth lefty swing and a great bat flip game already, the swag here is enough to jump him over some of the more questionable prospects in the organization.  Once the DSL starts up this summer, Nunez Jr. is definitely someone to keep an eye on and see if he can develop into a prospect worthy of this ranking.

_____

To follow that, I do really like his swing.  Its smooth, got power already on a slightly thin frame which lends itself to much larger power projections than someone smaller.  He seems to have nice control of his bat through the zone and has what appears to be a good loft on his swing already.

It's obviously a long ways to go for him but as a prospect I like him a lot and his potential to become ranked in the 200-300 on prospect ranks one day and even higher.

Me personally I'm close to putting him up with the top group of international signings from January (obvious behind Salas)

I put a lot of stock in where guys in the complex leagues hit in the lineup. Burrowes is hitting first in the ACL, Jimenez and Bennett are 3/4, Nunez Jr. is hitting third. That tracks with at least their managers think they're pretty good. So, I'm a little concerned that $1 mil bonus guy Erick Hernandez hit 9th last night and struck out 3 of his 4 at bats. Sample size, but that is not an arrow up position to hit in the order.

Hernandez's bat has not progressed like many first thought.  The power isn't really there and his contact has been a bit suspect.  He seems to be one that might come along more slowly

Thompson go the start for Birmingham, 1-2-3 first. Interesting question: between the sticky ball in AA and the Robo umps in AAA walks are waaaay up for things that don't exist in the majors. How is anyone evaluating pitching these days?

Colas 1/2 with 2 walks . He's getting on base more but still no power. It's good he's progressing with his selection but not good that he's turned into a lesser version of AAA Adam Haseley.

He’ll fit in with the entire lineup that doesn’t hit for power.
