Trade Prediction Thread

Recommended Posts

Given we are roughly two weeks out from the trade deadline, I figured it was time for a prediction thread.  Go ahead and throw our what you expect and/or hope the Sox do this deadline.  Crazy proposals are more than welcome here.

Blockbuster I’d like to see is as follows:

  • CWS get: LHP Kyle Harrison (BA #20 overall), OF Luis Matos (BA #26 overall), LHP Reggie Crawford (BA #10 org), & C Joey Bart
  • SFG get: RHP Dylan Cease & SS Tim Anderson

I’ll be interested to see how this White Sox management even fields a rotation of 5 starting pitchers after August 1. Currently, it’s taped and stapled together.

With Cease and Kopech only going 5 innings at most these days, there’s going to be an overworked bullpen. Lots of blowouts where we’ll keep struggling guys in the game to save killing the bullpen I suspect. About to get ugly…

But trading is 100% the right thing to do in my opinion.

In a nightmare scenario, the White Sox win the series against the Mets, Twins, and Cubs coming up while Minnesota struggles and they find themselves in a 5.5 games back situation going into the 4 game series against Cleveland leading to the deadline.

They decide not to trade anyone and make a last ditch effort to win this terrible division.

The deadline passes and they proceed to go 2-10 over the next 12 against the Rangers, Guardians, Yankees, and Brewers falling to 10+ out

That seems like a huge overpay for the Giants.  But, this is the type of offer I'd trade Cease for.

I wouldn't put it past them to not even be able to lose correctly.

I know they want to trade Giolito first before the SP market changes, but it would be nice if they could unload Grandal's salary first, even for a lottery ticket, just to maybe help justify eating money elsewhere to enhance the returns.

Man I wish, but there probably aren't any teams looking for position-less under-performers at the deadline.

Need a “godfather” offer to move Cease and to me this would be close.  We are getting two legit blue chip prospects, a 2022 1st round high variance arm, and a post hype catching prospect.  Perhaps it’s stretching the limits, but the Giants are getting three post seasons runs with a cost controlled Cease plus a cheap former +4 win SS who could potentially rebound with a change of scenery and would be under control for 2024.  It’s got to hurt to get an arm like Cease in this market.

Absolutely.  Trading him probably means total rebuild.

The question is, will Cease and/or Robert still be under contract when the Sox are good again? They think they will be good next season, but realistically, you would have to doubt it. The rotation is going to be Cease, and OMG.

If Giants go after Ohtani, those guys won't be available.

Yeah and I think giants will value the exclusive negotiation (esp after judge)

I would like that alot.  Pfaadt is a guy we could plug right into the rotation and I certainly like Blaze as a target (just put him in spitball trade guesses a few minutes ago).

Sound about right. When your initial reaction is “man, I’d love that for my team”, it’s 99.9% BS. Haha

I think it's repeating a mistake of the last one where we took guys who fattened up the 40 man with talent levels similar to what could be found on waivers. The downside is they have a slim time period to hold any value. We acquire them and it's a bunch of sink or swim guys. WOuld rather some younger tickets even with players like Lynn.

I don’t necessarily disagree with what you’re saying but Pfaadt is one of the best SP prospects in the game. If you can get him for Lance Lynn and a weak side platoon bat that doesn’t excel at much but popping homers, you gotta do it. Blaze is interesting as well.

That said, this is Rick Hahn and the White Sox. They’re going to target close to majors talent to tweak the clubhouse mix and mostly run it back in 2024.
