Lopez has been dominant for the Angels

He's fine except when Grifol asked him to close. And getting out of that losing atmosphere has to help.

There's always the honeymoon phase with the renewed evergy and focus, etc.

And honestly, I hope he (and Gio) do well there. Hell, hope they do well enough to help get Trout and Ohtani into the playoffs for baseball's sake.

Just got done with a 14.5 hour work day and I come here to no hard rumors involving the Sox.  For the love of god just give me a little taste.  f*** I’ll take a Grandal rumor at this point.

Final predictions for today since I’ll likely be out of pocket when all the action finally goes down:

Trade #1:

  • BAL gets: RHP Dylan Cease & RHP Kenyan Middleton
  • CWS gets: 3B Coby Mayo, OF Heston Hjerstsad, LHP DL Hall, & LHP Cade Povich

Trade #2:

  • TEX gets: Aaron Bummer
  • CWS gets: RHP Brock Porter

No other trades.  I think they only move Tim if they get a Cease package they like, but my guess is that comes down to the last few minutes and they won’t the time / bandwidth to make further deals.

I’d be pretty disappointed if Mayo is one of the headliners from the o’s in a cease deal. He’s highly likely to play 1B in the bigs. The power is legit, but you lose one of his main tools in his arm at 1B. I just really want to avoid the lumbering RHH 1B types right now, and Mayo is that.

Odds I would give that each is traded today:

MIddleton 99%

Grandal 60%

Jimenez 25%

Clevinger 20%

Bummer 15%

Cease 2%

I'll go

MIddleton 99% - Everyone needs pen help. Free to the Sox, cheap to another team.

Clevinger 50% - Looked good in his return getting up to 96 consistently. Everyone needs pitching, not a lot of sellers.

Bummer 25% - Would be a fit for teams that need help but have less than great chances at the playoffs like the Cubs, Red Sox, Seattle, Miami, AZ.

Grandal 20% - Not sure anyone will take him. Sox would probably have to kick in $4m or so which I assume JR would sign off on for to save $2m or so.

Jimenez 15% - Lack of consistency, lack of defensive value and lack of suitors. Brewers traded for Canha. Unless Marlins make a splash, I think Sox revisit trading Eloy in the offseason.

Cease 15% - Market would seem to have opportunity but if Reinsdorf want to compete next year there is no way they can even pretend they could compete without Cease (even in the AL central)

These look about right to me. I’d bump Clev to 55%. Think someone takes a flier. I think Middleton, Grandal, Elvis and Clevinger all go today.

Rosenthal's latest.

The White Sox

While open to moving everyone on their roster, few in the sport expect them to seriously engage on right-hander Dylan Cease and center fielder Luis Robert Jr. Reliever Keynan Middleton, however, could be the sixth pitcher they trade in a span of seven days.

Scouting reports I read suggest average 3B defense with plus arm.  Obviously if don’t project to be average there, then go for a different centerpiece (running out of options though).  But the thought of Kjerstad & him at the Rate is sexy AF.  We need to start investing in power and not slap-hitting LFs like Benintendi.

Yea. I think Middleton will be it unfortunately. Rick doesn't do splashy trade deadlines.

I think they move heaven and earth to get at least partial relief on grandal contract.

But yes, middleton.

I'm fully drinking my own koolaid on the "sox see this as a 2002 moment"

I think Reds could make a play for Clevinger as well.

I waffled between them. I can also see the Reds going for Cease.

I think a Sox pitcher is wearing a Reds jersey by the end of the day.

Sox ask from the Reds would start with McClain and Marte and I doubt they would entertain that

Petty is a solid pitching prospect, but Marte + Petty + third piece still feels light in this market
