Well, then, welcome to reality Rick.  Because the rebuild has fallen.

I don't think trading Cease is admitting defeat. If they get 2-3 ML ready position players and sign two SP in the offseason, that's much more of a re-tool.

My guess is, it will be something like this, () are my prospect ranks for the player

Heston (28), Hall (79), Norby (85), Povich (126)

Could swap Mayo (34) for Heston but I doubt it

I've heard Hall's velocity has dropped. I'd want Kjerstad, Westburg and Povich.

I'll take it. The  more I think of it, I like that plan more than all-in on Holliday; too much risk, considering the talent evaluators.
That said, Holliday does appear to be a great prospect.

They will still lose 90-100 games next year with your scenario.  So why put off the inevitable.  There is no magic formula to make this into a contender besides spending a lot more money than JR is ready to give up.  If he was so free with money, Giolito would of been resigned and they would be reloading right now.

The Sox would not make this deal without Grayson or Holliday.

This would be a horrible return for 2.5 years of a cost controlled 4+ WAR pitcher.

I don't think people understand how valuable 10 WAR is over 2 1/2 years for a team in a contention window, and how low the expected war values are for prospects 28-126.

The Sox and Orioles are exchanging names right now.  The Orioles have indicated a willingness to include Holiday in the deal, but there wouldn't be any other top 100 prospects coming back to the Sox.

According to whom
