The Sox would not make this deal without Grayson or Holliday.

This would be a horrible return for 2.5 years of a cost controlled 4+ WAR pitcher.

I don't think people understand how valuable 10 WAR is over 2 1/2 years for a team in a contention window, and how low the expected war values are for prospects 28-126.

I agree, a deal doesn't happen without Grayson or Holiday.

The Sox and Orioles are exchanging names right now.  The Orioles have indicated a willingness to include Holiday in the deal, but there wouldn't be any other top 100 prospects coming back to the Sox.

Source?

If this were true the deal would’ve been done by now.

If true, that's kind of the problem.

Rodriguez, Kjerstad, Ortiz, Povich > Holliday and a couple non Top 100 pieces.

Its the best offer anyone will ever offer for Cease so

1. The Sox would and should do it

Or

2. The Sox don't trade Cease and waste the money and years doing nothing bc Grayson and Holliday are more off limits than Robert

No offer without a top 10 guy is the "best offer" someone will offer. The guys you listed would be lucky to have 10 WAR combined in their career.

Guys, Baltimore is not desperate or in trouble.

They are entering a huge window, they are loaded with talent. They don't need to blow their wad in 2023. They could make no trades right now and still be set for a while.

I don't believe that they are going to panic and do something stupid. That's not how they got here.

True but I wouldn't call getting Cease stupid They're already playing great baseball and most of their top prospects are in AAA but they really do need pitching. Some, perhaps even a majority of those AAA guys probably don't become solid  MLB players. Cowser, great stats in AAA no doubt , but can he hit the breaking stuff in the bigs is a big question with him.

This appears to be big news

Awfully confident. If you can see the future, you should buy the white sox. Should be easy if you can see the future.

No one will bc Cease has been terrible every year but last season and could only get worse as the years go on.

I don't think trading for Cease is stupid, I just don't see any reason why they should panic and overpay. They aren't under the gun here, the future is bright in Baltimore.

The dream "over pay" scenario where Hahn bundles and the O's make the call as its a sellers market.

White Sox Get: Holliday, Kjerstad, Povich
Orioles Get: Cease, Bummer, Middleton.

No...just, no.

Nothing that Cease has done in his career, is 'terrible.

O's have quantity and quality, and can give the Sox 4 quality pieces over 1 can't miss + meh.

Over a 4 ERA on his career excluding last season which is a huge outlier.

No one is giving up the top prospect in baseball or the top pitching prospect in baseball (who is on the MLB team in the playoff hunt)

It just won't happen, period.  If it does, sign Hahn to a lifetime contract bc that's like trading Tatis for Shields
