Absence of Grandal rumors

Is Grandal totally cooked or will someone give him a one year deal for around 2 or 3 million this offseason?

He'll bounce around for a couple years still, I bet. Reminds me of the Jonathan Lucroy situation - dude was a stud through 2016, hottest thing at the position, gets his money, big trade target.

2017 comes and he doesn't sniff a .700 OPS again. Kicks around on 8 different teams over the next 4+ seasons.

MLB catchers are like NFL coaches, they're always given another shot.

If the Sox wind up waiving him, someone will sign him.

Yes it would only be league minimum, once he clears waivers.

Could see the Yankees doing that, unless Rodon has the power to veto it. Donaldson would definitely veto based on Grandal's role defending Tim in the Jackie Robinson incident.

The Yankees have to eat $6M to make Donaldson go away. Fucking dumbasses. Hope they never win another World Series.

I wholeheartedly endorse that message

Veterans in this league that are a shell of their former selves still have a place in the league...if they can bring something to the table in terms of leadership or culture building. Mentoring skills. Unfortunately Grandal doesn't really have those, so, I think the Sox are probably stuck with him.

You mean nobody wants to give up something for an overpaid DFA candidate?  GASP!

Seriously though, he's cooked, is awful behind the plate, and doesn't bring much to a team beyond empty OBP.  A bag of balls or a fringe lotto ticket *if* the Sox ate significant dollars.  If no one takes him, I hope they cut bait Aug 2.

Unless Lee is ready to join the ML club, I don't see a reason to DFA Grandal.  And if Lee is ready, does it make more sense to drop Grandal or Seby?  They're eating Grandal's salary either way (if he's not traded).

There is no reason to continue to play Grandal.  Call up Perez and see what he can do with 4-5 starts the next week.  Once Lee is healthy and ready to go, call him up and give him the keys the rest of the season.  Grandal should have played his last game with the Sox at this point.

Yaz has no future here.  Seby, while not good, might stick around as a backup.  There is zero reason to hang onto Yaz.

I actually don't hate Yaz like most, but he's done with the White Sox after this season. They are done even trying to compete this season. They need to play other guys. Lee will probably be ready in a week or two. Carlos Perez should get a chance to play some games. See what you have.

Lee is going to DH tomorrow in Charlotte. I can imagine him being on the mlb team in 7-10 days. I would keep Grandal until then.  I am over Perez. From my looks, he can’t throw and he’s not a good receiver. That’s not a good recipe when you stuff the staff with AAAA guys who have decent stuff they don’t control well.

If he is DFA’d would the other team pick up his salary before he clears waivers?
if yes is there a chance he clears?

There is a 100% chance he clears if Sox DFA's him.  No one is claiming all ~$6M he is owed.

So they keep him, or just another guy not playing for us they are paying.
